Deputy President Paul Mashatile says South Africa remains open to African investment and is not anti-foreigner, but will not tolerate illegal migration.

He was speaking to SABC News on the sidelines of the World African Heritage Day celebrations in Midrand (Johannesburg), hosted by the African World Heritage Fund, the Development Bank of Southern Africa, and the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture.

Mashatile insists there is no xenophobia in South Africa, only opposition to illegal migration. He cautioned against lawlessness, urging citizens not to take matters into their own hands.

"Well, South Africa is not anti-foreigners. What we have been doing for years, we have been against illegal people come into our country, whether they are from Africa or anywhere in the world. It's something we will not allow, but we will not be chasing Africans for the sake of it. What we are saying is that let people come to our country. Yes, we want investments. We want to work with them to develop our own country, but must be done legally."
This fellow must be high on something psychotropic to deny the reality of sane and very well educated Nigerians who live in SA with whom Nigerians have phoneversations on the matter.

DomPerignon:
This is how the head of a communist Politburo rises to power.

Not by being voted in by the Party congress nor by the public but by brute force under coercion within the inner Politburo of the Communist party.

Last I checked, no Russian voted Lenin, Stalin, Krushnev, Gorbachev or Yeltsin. Same thing can be said of Mao and every CCP leadership, Pol Pot of Cambodia, etc.

Democracy is antithetical to communist rule.

Obidients are ideologically Marxists and far-left woke Communists without even knowing and their Chairman Giringori with his black suit gives off strong Communist vibes.

Some will say that being a trader, Giringori is a burgoise and an enemy of communism but we know that western capitalism loves communism to a fault that western banksters, businessmen backed the Russian communist revolt and were the biggest beneficiaries of the slave labor economy that it birthed.

Every capitalist is a communist at heart and thats why you see the WEF advocating for a global, communist reset, why Elon and co want UBI and an end to democratic governments to be replaced by a technocratic communist order led by Coperations.
You were spot on about Peter Obi. 2027 will reveal how he weighs politically. I sincerely wish we had a credible alternative to Tinubu. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is sure to carry the day if she could contest. Akinwunmi who recently left the ADB is also credible.

Point of correction: Several African countries helped South Africa to fight apartheid; not Nigeria alone.
While it is bad for South Africans to attack other Africans, Nigerians should stop talking as if Nigeria was the only country that assisted South Africa in the fight against apartheid. Some African countries even helped them more than Nigeria did.
I take the correction.

There are high chances that Kwankwasso will emerge as the NDC candidate and same Kwankwasso is not in any way going to make Obi's his running mate.

Obi has just over ran his shadow and made the most stupid mistake ever.
Peter Obi clearly is averse to competition. A very clear dictatorial tendency. He brooks no competition! This is beyond “Peter Obi does not give shishi” mantra!

Very silly statement. Is it the Supreme Court that told the ADC to appeal an interlocutory decision of the Federal High Court all the way to the Supreme Court which wasted precious time? Most unfair to speak so unkindly of the Judges who were simply doing their jobs according to Law. About time we hold folks who exercise their rights to free speech to account for their utterances by proving them. Where they fail to prove the truth of their utterances the consequences are to follow.

Presently show me that political figure in nigeria who is clean. If PO must form alliance it would be with the existing political figures. If he fails to what happened in 2023 might repeat. So wisdom entails that he should align to achieve. His dumping of ADC for NDC shows that he is not just dinning with the corrupt politicians but rather he aligns with them in ADC for the ultimate goal of claiming the number one seat for a better Nigeria. And as soon as he saw his mission not being accomplished he left the party. It is not about the flocking with them it is about the noble goal.
I wish Peter Obi would speak to the following in specific terms-
Here is the 10-step action plan for the transformation of the NESI as of 2026:
1. Enact State Electricity Laws: States must pass their own electricity laws to take over regulation of intra-state generation, transmission, and distribution, moving away from exclusive federal control.
2. Establish State Regulatory Agencies: States must create local agencies to regulate mini-grids, independent electricity distribution networks (IEDNs), and independent electricity transmission networks (IETNs).Implement National Integrated Electricity Policy (NIEPSIP):
3. The Federal Ministry of Power must fully adopt the National Integrated Electricity Policy and Strategic Implementation Plan to guide the sector's growth.Unbundle Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN):
4. Actively separate the transmission network management from the Independent System Operator (ISO) to enhance grid performance.
Disaggregate Distribution Licenses: Break down distribution licenses into distinct supply and distribution licenses to promote competition and specialized service delivery.
5. Enforce Renewable Energy Obligations: Implement mandatory requirements for generating companies (GenCos) and distribution companies (DisCos) to purchase or generate a specific percentage of power from renewable sources.
6. Strengthen Financial Discipline (ATC&C Loss Reduction): Enforce strict targets for Aggregate Technical, Commercial and Collection (ATC&C) losses, aiming to sustain collection efficiency above 60%.
7. Automate Transmission Loss Reporting (TLF): TCN and NISO are mandated to install smart meters at all boundary interconnection points to reduce Transmission Loss Factor (TLF) to below 7%.
8. Criminalize Electricity Theft: Strictly apply legal provisions against meter tampering, bypass, and damage to infrastructure to protect market revenue.
9. Establish Consumer Protection Funds: Utilize the Consumer Assistance Fund managed by NERC to phase out cross-subsidies and protect consumers from arbitrary billing.

Sunnyshinylight:
This development signals a continued escalation in already fragile regional tensions. The destruction of Iranian boats and interception of missiles and drones highlights how volatile the Strait of Hormuz remains, despite recent ceasefire efforts.

From a strategic standpoint, the United States is reinforcing its posture as a guarantor of maritime security, especially in a corridor critical to global energy supply. However, Iran’s response suggests that deterrence has not yet translated into de escalation.

The situation reflects a broader pattern where military actions are framed as defensive by all parties involved,
The USA has been greatly responsible in its handling of power by showing restraint.

Your take on Peter Obi is bullseye but not to his emotive crowd whose deluded minds cannot fathom the depths of this illuminating piece. A politician who will beg to be presented for election is not about service to the people! See the example of Osinbajo who knew he had the advantage of proven capacity on his side but lost the primaries to Tinubu. He begged no one but simply moved on with his life.

Emeka sells car parts, mostly Tokunbo engines and gearboxes. His shop isn’t the biggest in the line, but he moves goods fast because he knows how to spot what mechanics are looking for.

One afternoon, while we were both in the market, he mentioned he had found a new supplier for engines. He said the prices were better than what most importers were offering, especially for Toyota and Honda models.

At first, I didn’t think much of it. Everybody is always searching for better deals.

A few days later, he came back looking excited. He said the supplier had sent him videos from what looked like a warehouse. Engines lined up, tagged, some already wrapped for delivery. The person even recorded a clip calling out his name, pointing at a specific engine they claimed was reserved for him.

That part impressed him.

He said they spoke on the phone, and the guy sounded like someone who had been in the business for years. He knew engine codes, discussed compatibility, and even advised him on which models sell faster in Lagos.

It sounded convincing.

I asked him one question. Had he ever dealt with the person before?

He said no.

I told him to take it easy and, if possible, use Emeka sells car parts, mostly Tokunbo engines and gearboxes. His shop isn’t the biggest in the line, but he moves goods fast because he knows how to spot what mechanics are looking for.

escrow or any setup where the money is not released until he confirms delivery. These days, too many things are happening online.

He laughed it off and said not every deal needs that kind of structure.

According to him, the supplier even offered to send a driver to deliver within 48 hours once payment was confirmed.

That sealed it for him.

He decided to buy three engines to start. Two Toyota engines and one Honda. Total cost was around 3.8 million naira.

Before making payment, he asked for proof that the engines were still available.

The supplier sent another video. Same warehouse, same engines, same markings.

Emeka transferred the money.

Payment was confirmed almost immediately. The supplier told him the engines would be dispatched the next morning.

The next day, he followed up.

The supplier said the driver was on the way and would send details shortly.

Hours passed.

No driver details.

Later, the supplier claimed there was a delay but assured him everything was under control.

By evening, responses became slower.

Then they stopped.

Emeka started calling. The phone rang at first, then later became switched off.

The next morning, the number was no longer reachable.

He went back to check the WhatsApp profile. The picture was gone.

That was when it started to sink in.

He rushed to the bank, hoping to block the transaction, but the money had already been moved. It was the same pattern. Funds split and transferred out quickly.

Gone.

When he explained everything later, what stood out was how detailed the setup had been. The videos, the voice calls, the technical knowledge about engines. Nothing felt random.

It was built to gain his trust step by step.

Now, anytime someone mentions a new supplier in the market, Emeka is the first to speak.

He doesn’t argue much. He just says one thing.

If you don’t know the person, don’t send money directly. Use something that protects both sides, like escrow, or meet physically before any serious payment.

Because once the money leaves your account, there is usually no second chance.
Not quite! You can sue for money had and received and get judgment against the party who failed to perform his own side of the contract.
