Quick question.

In yoruba culture, who is really a 'wife'?

Is it the -wife
-Fiancee
- Girlfriend
- Mistress

I ask cos I see guys call their female partners "iyawo mi" and the ladies call them "Oko mi" . Does dating automatically turn u into a wife or husband in yoruba culture? Is it culturally accepted or is their no word for girlfriend in yoruba language. I love the way they address themselves but it will be nice to understand these things.

It is not really a big deal...it just something that people like or enjoy saying to their partner. Before I married my husband...I would call him my hubby or king and people actually thought we were married. My husband never referred me as his girlfriend or friend...I was always his wuyeh or wife. Imagine me introducing him to my family and his family saying this is my wife.....both families were confused and upset!

They were like why we didn't get invited to the wedding! grin grin grin
