The 2020 vision may still be alive after all

Chairman of Goldman Sachs, Mr Jim O’neil has predicted that Nigeria will be among the first 20 nations to be industrialised by the year 2020.

O’neil made this revelation at the end of a two day meeting of the Honorary International Investors Council (HIIC) in London.

O’neil noted that “Nigeria recorded much economic growth in the last 14 years”.

The HIIC pledged, after the meeting, to support the reform of the Goodluck Jonathan led administration.

Addressing a pressing conference after the meeting the coordinator of the council, Baronness Linda Chalker, said that it is important to always have a positive perception of the Nigerian nation despite the daunting challenges facing the country.

The council, at the end of the meeting, agreed to support the reforms of the federal government and its strategy for addressing those reforms.

As much I believe in Nigeria and her potentials and heck,I want to be a part of it, but whenever news like this comes from financial/investment, I'm a lil wary about it. This is just another hype, Nigerians should be careful. We're need a lot to embark on path to industrialization, we still haven't gotten it right. Till then, they should stop hyping our govt, giving them a false sense of hope.

Nigeria is perhaps recording growth, however, are we recording development as well? Or is development not needed? Nigeria may be growing till 2020 or till 2050, bu until we begin to develop, we'll remain in same place. Development is the only thing holding us back, so they need to reemphasize about that key part.

The same Goldman Sachs that singlehandedly destroyed the Greek economy by collaborating with corrupt Greek politicians to hide the country's mounting debts.

the same Goldman Sachs who then started taking bets on how soon the economy of Greece would collapse thereby profitting from their criminal activity.

the same Goldman Sachs that stole $1billion of Libya's sovereign wealth fund which has never been paid back?

the only type of economic growth you will see in nigeria is the type that will enrich western multinational corporations that are currently rap.ing nigeria and some nigerian elites who have collaborated with these theives, none of this so called growth will result in improved standards of living for 99% of the nigerian population, rather the average nigeria will be living in abject poverty by that date if a revolution does not take place before then.

The projection is laughable...

Hence, why I don't take stats from all these Western controlled organisations(IMF, World Bank, Unicef, Gold Sachs etc..) seriously when it comes to Africa - they just lead people on based on false premise...

Simple logic and a common man will say the same thing. Nigeria will never achieve such goal as an industrialized nation if there's no adequate power supply. I mean constant power supply, 24/7, whether it is raining or not. Perhaps they meant to say, in the year 2020, the Nigerian economy will collapse; it has collapsed anyway.

No country in this world can achieve high tech or high development in terms of production or manufacturing without adequate electricity.
I beg your pardon, power supply is not just a luxury but a basic essential.

This sounds more like the kind of empty trash that come out the mouths of pulpit pimps like Adeboye, Oyedepo, and Oyaks and other pentecostal fraudsters of Nigeria(PFN). Come Dec. 31st, they'll start telling the gullible the great plans that God has for Nigeria in 2013, offcourse, without accounting for god's great plans for 2012 and the many years before.

On a more serious note, according to the world bank, it would take Nigeria 30yrs of consecutive 10% economic growth to reach the optimal or normal stable economy and standard of living status.

We definitely do not have any one of the many ingredients that could take us to semi-industrialised status in the next 50yrs.
My proof? Look at the standard of education. That says it all and sums it all up.

What are our universities producing in abundance?
Student Criminals, student banditry, prostitution, and pastors.
One does not need to be a prophet to see the future.
It aint bright.

Goldman Sacks is flying this kyte in what is an obvious and very familiar bid to scam someone, most likely, the brain-dead m.ro.ons we have in our government.

The bolded statement above makes no sense please clarify. Which other nations have set the year 2020 as a deadline for industrialisation??
How will Nigeria come first? First amongst whom? There are many many nations at advanced stages of industrialisation even in Africa!

More importantly what type of industrialisation are we talking about? Industrialisation is a gigantic general term to use that makes no sense as a stand-alone concept if you do not put it into context!! Or is this all just sweet talk? undecided
