I'm seeing this thread beyond a mere question. I'm seeing it as a survey....
and if it's really a survey, it means that 80% of Nigerians does not believe totally that prayer works. interesting.....
but the question is, how come churches and Mosques full to capacity anytime there is any programme?

I beleive that prayer works... only that i have a different definition of prayer...
prayer is the act of seeking for supernatural intervention from a supernatural deity.

that means u can prayer to anything and it will be answered.
pagans pray to stones, trees, animals and get answers
Catholics pray to status, chaplet, holy communion, mary and they get answers
Muslims praye to the sun, moon, star and get answers
cultists prayer to their own god and also get answers

so what all this peoole share un common is Faith. they believe their prayers shall be answered

Akin-David:
@OP, that we are still existing as a Nation is a fundamental evidence that prayer really work. Most of the National problem are man made and political. Our diversity as a nation make some things so complex that the only thing you can ever wish is divine intervention. The rich wants to get richer and the poor wants judgement against the rich, don't forget that God is also a merciful God.

So why is it that more diverse nations with greater social issues are doing better than us?

Bear in mind we as a nation are becoming more religious and we are getting worse as a result.

To me it is the polar opposite. Because of religion and prayer we have refused to tackle the problem. As a result it keeps getting worse.

If prayer is a placebo, then it must be a very powerful one.
I don't know the placebo that can make the blind to see, the deaf to hear or the dead to rise again. I want more of that placebo.
In my short stao on earth, I know what this placebo has done for me and other people.

Princess1982: I think all prayers are heard and most of them are answered. They may not be answered when we ask or even in the order we ask for them. For example when I was younger looking for work I applied at a job that would require me to do hard labor I remember praying to God that I got this job because, I was tired of my parents taking care of me. So I interviewed and I didn't get the job I remembered asking God why? and not understanding it was clear I needed the job. Then in a weeks time that same job called me offering a nice office position 65k a year I hadn't even completed my degree yet so now I see why I didn't get the factory job God was keeping my arms open for something better. Then as far as the troubles of the world go we never know what God is preparing us for.
What about MD and CEO of companies who don't pray and employ Christians who believe they need prayer to work in a company created by non believers?

Prayers do work! The reason why God tells us NO sometimes, is because we are not in the place we're supposed to be, or we are doing the wrong thing, or its not the right time......God ALWAYS answers prayers.

Mt 6:31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’
Mt 6:32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.
Mt 6:33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Most people do not realize that there are two parts to a human being: the inner man (inner being) and the outer man. The outer man is just a house in which the inner being, which is the real man, lives; see 2 Cor 5:1. The inner man is the soul. Jesus' message concerns primarily the soul; the same applies to the messages by His disciples. That is why in the above-quoted passage from Matthew 6, Jesus instructs His followers to seek divine power and divine life for their souls; if they do so, they will be surprised to see how God adequately provides for the needs of the outer man. The reason why there are so many problems in the world is simply that the real man (the inner man) is separated from God, who is the source of goodness. So, Jesus admonishes to focus their attention on maintaining constant fellowship with God.

What I present here may seem so abstract, but I actually write from experience. I happen to be a very talented person. I expected life to go very easily for me, but all my life the opposite has been the norm. I found it so difficult to get married. Each time I approach a girl for marriage, some spiritual power would appear to me in dream as a very fat woman who would pursue me with a crowd of followers. This spiritual force easily turned the girl of interest away from me. A friend advised me to go for deliverance somewhere. All I got from the deliverance session was that the man of God spoke a prophecy about a great evangelist being in their midst and the Spirit made me to know that I was the person. My problems were not solved and I continued to focus my attention on getting those problems solved. Due to an event that occurred sometime, I decided to focus my attention on becoming the great evangelist that was prophesied. Shortly after that, my marriage took place, and every person was impressed with the king of person that I married. My life began to take shape from there.

Jas 4:3 When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.

Focus your prayers on building up your soul and your problems will start disappearing.

What has a prayer debate got to do with GEJ? Everyones relationship with God is personal . Where is it in the bible that says its godly to insult God's choice or you actually think his reign as President of Nigeria is by accident .

Please practice what you preach.

Maybe the prayers are the problem. If we werent praying and waiting for God to solve all our problems in the country we would have been forced to take action.

Maybe things wouldnt have gotten so bad. It easy to endure hardship when we believe God will solve all our problems. Just go to church more to allow Gods miracle to work in our lives.
the GODLESS, are u saying this? I dont disagree with the part u said 'people can endure hardship when we believe God can solve our problems'.

NB: prayer is not our problem, it is those that prays that are our problem.

HOW PRAYERS ARE ANSWERED IS A SPIRITUAL MATTER.GOD ALWAYS ANSWERS PRAYER ACCORDING TO HIS WILL NOT ACCORDING TO OUR WILL,FOR WE ARE IGNORANT OF OURSELVES.WE BEG OFTEN FOR OUR OWN HARMS WHICH GOD DENIALS US FOR OUR OWN GOOD.SO MORE OFTEN THAN NOT WE BENEFIT WHEN OUR PRAYERS ARE NOT BEING ANSWERED.SO MANY OF US PRAY ASKING GOD FOR SPECIFIC THINGS.GOD MAY OR MAY NOT GIVE US THAT SPECIFIC THINGS DEPENDING WHETHER THE OUTCOME WILL BE OF BENEFIT OR HARMFUL TO US.SO GOD ANSWERS PRAYERS ANYTIME ANYDAY OR ANYWHERE

It is both. Mostly the illusion (or delusion) that prayer can solve anything. If werent expecting miracles we would focus on solving the problem ourselves.

IMO, prayer remains the key . . .

There is an ongoing uprising across Africa that will restore the continents pride and glory. Note I haven't said lost glory because Africas glorious future will be nothing compared to its troubled past.

In 1998 I recall God's intervention in Nigeria (or call it CIA manipulation) as a result of corporate prayers of the Church. On a personal level, prayer helps me discern a good business move from a difficult or bad one.

i dont disagree totally, but if u believe in God, u must use prayers to amplify ur life. In my religion, it is said "use the night to rest and u use tha day to worship, and find food".....with this prayer can work here. If the opposite is the case, then i'm afraid all is not ok. U cant be idle and think prayer wil make u rich...u must work+prayer.

hum .. The devil is a liar.

are people Really Praying enough? Its on record in the spiritual realm, that this generation has the weakest believers of all times. The heavens are crying for a spiritual re-awakening and people are questioning the efficacy of prayers.

May I warn that we are about entering a new year and the enemy of Mankind is seriously mapping out strategy. some of which are thoughts like these ones vomited from the pit of hell. If you relent in the place of prayers you may become a casualty. half a word is enough for the wise.

k2039: It's complicated.

Prayer works and prayer also does not work.

If I have to pray for success, I must be certain to work towards the attainment of that success or else fail by default no matter the prayer.

Some prayers are stupi.d and pointless. Example if I pray for God to give me 40million by the end of the year(except I kidnap Finance ministers mother gringringringrin)

The bible talks about praying according to God's will, I will add you must also be willing to work in the will and channel your effort to the attainment of the will or the prayer is just pointless.

Only in rare cases does prayer work without effort from the praying indivdual, Divine Intervention.

For the president, he just being plain silly, he doesn't want to take full responsibility for his actions hence his boycourt is prayer.
The earlier he understand his effort towards making Nigeria better is all that matters, not necessarily prayer, he needs to start using his brain and stop expecting God to come down from heaven to help because it won't happen.

This is more reason I love athiest although I know they are on the wrong part and non of them should quote me. An athiest takes full responsible for his life, actions and decisions, he believes if you have to get something, work towards it but in religion we have decided to put everything on God and devil
look no amount of work can guarrantee u wealth only the blessing of God.in sept. this year a man won a lotto of $33m. In USA ,in new york a west african woman won a casino of $87m in july,we share different grace,he gave hope to the hopeless and let me tell u demons will prefer to let u have wealth and forget salvation to have both ,u have to pray fervently to make both.
Re: Do Prayers Actually Work? Be Realistic With Your Response And No Insult, Please! by Born2beRich1(m): 11:46am On Dec 27, 2012
Prayers actually works and God answers all prayers (although he disregards some)...for example, like the saying: the heart of man is constantly wicked....Some people are praying for thier neighbours to die so they can marry the wife, some are praying for their brother to die so that they can take control of their brothers wealth, others are praying for other peoples downfall...so imagine if all prayers were answered there will be no more Nigeria again..

Also, God sometimes might want to delay prayers to see if you will still trust him and believe that he can do it for you (Job in the bible is an example)...but most people are impatient and they want sharp sharp answer, if not, they will say there is no God or God doesnt answer prayers..

God has already assured us that ask and you will receive, seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened...Mathew 7:7

Remember also that though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry....Habakkuk 2:3

Seasons greetings all...grin

Yes!prayers works...I m a living testimony to the fact that there is a supreme being up there that listens to petitions and answers according to his will.years back I came out with a 3rd,then I thought that was the end of the world for me knowing fully well the situation of the country.I was steadfast,I fasted at least twice a week,I ve never been closer to God.God answered my prayers by granting me a well paid Job with a Govt agency even without anybody pushing it for me.Now am happily married.another remarkable thing is that I didn't stay up to year before I got employed.with God all things are possible.

prayer works, but depends on individuals.there is prayer & there is voodoo.if u believe in prayers u ve to cleanse ur inner self & position urself towards what ure praying for & be positive about it.i know of a woman that is a prayer warrior in her church.her husband had all sort of problems financially.she told her pastor, all of a sudden they started dating secretly for years & she still give holy comunium to church members.but her husband situation did not change till she caught them years after despite the wifes prayers on the family.it eventually became an effort in futility.all they could say was the devil used them.but voodoo people need not be righteous, like our politicians,it doesnt cost them a thing to send hired killers to thier rivals.

Prayers have worked for Nigerian pastors to buy million dollar private jets and live in palatial mansions.
My own private jet is on the way to Lagos in 2013.
