Compliments of the season to everyone on the Computer Thread.

This is a thread to ask questions about laptops or desktops before buying.

You can also ask questions about what software can run on your computer (Pls state your Specs)

P.S There have been alot of threads on NL complaining of performance issues when gaming etc.

Hopefully, this thread will reduce that amount.

imagine someone wanting to play Pro Evolution soccer 2013 with 2gb of ram, a 64bit OS and an AMD processor with 1,00ghz shocked shocked shocked angry angry angry

Ok lets start with Windows 7.

To use windows 7 to its full potential you need the ffg system requirements

Windows 7 (32-bit or 64-bit)1

Intel® Core™ 2 Duo/Quad 2.66 GHz or faster processor or equivalent

4 GByte RAM

10 GByte hard disk space (Install + User Files)

NVIDIA® GeForce®/AMD series, 256 MB (or more) graphics card

USB2.0 port (if connecting to a NanoBoard-NB2 or NanoBoard-3000)

Adobe® Reader® 8 or above

DVD-Drive

Internet Connection

Ofcourse to play games on windows 7, you will need more power...

Hotdiamond: I'm gettin a Hp pavilion g6 windows 8 4G RAM 500 HDD hard drive Intel pentium b968. I'm plannin on runnin auto CAD 2007, adobe photoshop, fifa 13. Is it possible?

That system will handle autocad 2007 well

but will struggle to keep up in fifa 13 and photoshop

for two reasons. the graphics card and the processor.

dont get me wrong though, ur laptop will run them but it will have one issue or the other.

i suggest that you take a look at systems with at least core 2 duo or core 1 processors.

Also if you can, try to stay away from intel 4000 graphics chip. look for AMD or Nvidia chips.

you want autocad that will run without any issue on windows 7, start from 2010

autocad 2008 has some issues on win 7, you may not notice if you are not a power user

autocad 2009 will run on win 7 with no issues, but it is a bad release

graphics cards are also a big in autocad, maybe even more so that photoshop - especially with intel integrated graphics

too many of the laptops sold in nigeria are intel gmas, - if u plan on serious gaming / 3d related apps, avoid

One of my laptops always exhibit this character, and I need a clear technical explanation.

When I plug it to the office internet connection using either wireless or cable, and then there is a power outage/failure or the internet service from the internet service provide I am using at the office goes off completely and every other system is disconnected from the internet, this very system I use at the office, a HP, will still be browsing for hours without any internet connection service.

Everyone had been wondering, I even started suspecting the system at a point even today, lol...pls what's happening? Is the system storing internet service to be used later? I want to know if its common pls and why? Thanks for the thread.

I don't strongly recommend anyone buying an HP laptop. Don't get me wrong. I use an HP laptop myself. But I have noticed that HP laptops generally have heating and noise problems. In fact, the noise is so annoying you will think someone is using a mini generator somewhere. And please note, most of the people I stay with here are having the same problems. I even checked online(just google it) and was surprised that this was more of a general problem, and not just peculiar to me.
Now,I am even thinking of returning the system for servicing because the guaranty is still there.

You see why I don't advise anyone to get an HP.

##I use HP Pavillion dv6 6.00gb ram, 500gb HD##

@day11, macbook pro have inbuilt baterry, the battery could have been a little detached from the connecting interface in the motherboard: anything could cause this but it's largely external pressure..
Secondly, if you ve been using ur PC on a flat surface, running a processor and graphics card intensive program with ur battery alone, ur system overheats and d battery as well (generally ur Battery will 'not charge' as a result of d heat absorbed)..
Thirdly, u battery could have been already a death laden one from d manufacturer, thus u cud consider a replacement.
Cheers!

prolly the installation software of ur printer is not compactible with windows8, u gotta chill for an update from the Printers manufacturer before u can use it, meanwhile just. Windows 7 PC to use with the printer for the mean time till the update is out

I have used HP, dell, toshiba, but the best laptop so far are- dell, toshiba and fujishu (if u can ever see one cos they seem to have stopped production)

HP I agree isn't good. It seems to be a special production for low cost and targeted for African market and low income Americans. Go for Dell instead of HP.

HP do have cute design, curves, this n that that appeals to the eye, but not so good technically

Hotdiamond: thanks . I'm not really a fan of AMD processors cos of heatin problems. Would an i3 be ok with What i want to do.
The I3 would give u a fairly moderate performance, but if u really wanna exploit the software to the fullest, u should target the I5 if u can't afford the I7, trust me u would not regret choosing it.. Tho I understand the problem with AMD and heating but with proper ventilation I.e not putting it on ur bed, etc, u would really enjoy the performance... But if u wanna go for intel, would advise u to go least the I5

webcalculator: can i get a good system with N70,000?

white mosquito: So whats d safest lappy to buy. Cos my compaq has pushed me to tears more often dan not.

Lyk cars, laptops vary in their specific capacity, hp is known for its stylish and magnificent body finish, dell is acclaimed for ruggedity, alienware is known for its blasting RAM size, graphics and processor, apple is revered for their innovation..
Any day hp will top d choice for a laptop option: cos its drivers and parts are easily assesible nd available, likewise dell..
So make sure u are buying a system that has available parts.
