adouble u: Hi. Already had the laptop I wanted to get in mind but wen I happened in on dis discussion,' was ecstatic!
I want a laptop that can run softwares like 3dmax, Revit and Photoshop, if u know wat I mean,I do a lot of heavy renderings.
Question is would a Sony intel core i7 serve me well? I would also love to run just windows 7 on it.

Yes, but will also depend on d dedicated video memory that your graphics card runs at.. The standard is 256mb, 512mb is gr8, 1gb (1024mb) is wonderful and 2gb is d highest.
Make sure it's not less than 256mb.
U can check dis by right clicking on ur desktop, then click personalize, look for screen resolution and click, a dialog box opens to let u see what u need.
Cheers!

seyizma: @threadowner,pls i wanna ask if i should go for this n if it can play games like pes n fifa
New HP G6, Window8,500GB, 4GB
-Window8
-500GB Hard drive
-4GB RAM
-2.3GHZ Processor
-Bluetooth
-Webcam
-intel dual core
-DVD RW
-Wireless
-WLAN
-WiFi
-4USB Ports
-64 bit
-15.6"screen
-6 cells battery
Do you have a link? Need to know the graphics card and processor model.

If I'm going to assume now, it's probably an Intel processor, fairly new and it runs on integrated graphics (HD4000 most likely) which should be OK for Fifa.

Missed the Intel part. Yeah, that laptop should do just fine for Fifa no problem. It runs an Intel 4000 which runs Fifa 13 well on high settings.

It's a very decent laptop that will last a couple of years, provided you don't want to run the most demanding games. But for most tasks it's more than fast enough.

Take it out of your laptop whenever you plan on not using the battery/laptop for some time. Completely drain the battery once every 3 month. That's about it really. The battery will wear out eventually though, no way around that.

Or should i just get a new laptop but the money is the issue coz i'm still a student and my income is limited.

Well, I have an old laptop with Vista which I use for storage, and it has 1,5GB RAM and it runs fine, but I have nearly no background programs running. You need to close the programs. Do you know how to disable startup applications?

ichamentor: I don't strongly recommend anyone buying an HP laptop. Don't get me wrong. I use an HP laptop myself. But I have noticed that HP laptops generally have heating and noise problems. In fact, the noise is so annoying you will think someone is using a mini generator somewhere. And please note, most of the people I stay with here are having the same problems. I even checked online(just google it) and was surprised that this was more of a general problem, and not just peculiar to me.
Now,I am even thinking of returning the system for servicing because the guaranty is still there.

You see why I don't advise anyone to get an HP.

##I use HP Pavillion dv6 6.00gb ram, 500gb HD##
i also use pavilllion dv6 8.00gb ram. it does not over-heat and also doesn't make noise

spothot: Pls can someone help on how to reduce the data consumption on windows 8 basic laptop. I have disabled the automatic update and those on the desktop but it still consumes so much data. Pls any comprehensive guide will be appreciated

you can simply do a disk cleanup by going to My Computer, right clic on your local disk c: drive, Click the Disk Cleanup tab, and then select all the check boxes for the files you want to delete.
When you finish selecting the files you want to delete, click OK, and then click Delete files to confirm the operation. Disk Cleanup proceeds to remove all unnecessary files from your computer.

Have you made sure you haven't disabled the screen by touching some key-shortcut? If not, the screen is probably dead. Could also mean there's a problem with the graphics chip.

Most laptops will do that just fine. Get something with a 2+ Ghz dual core and Intel 4000 GPU graphics or similar from AMD.

Unplug the power, remove the battery and then hold the power button for 30 to 60 seconds. Then reattach the power and attempt a boot.

check the tiles on the start menu cos they update automatically (they probably are on unlimited).......when on the start menu, go towards the charms side (or hold the windows key on the keyboard + c) and click settings....you'll see tiles.....turn it off or limit the data plan your tiles should use.....I think that should do.....
