A major boost to Nigeria’s aviation sector is underway as a private airliner, Vistajet, has indicated interest to invest about $150 million into the sector.

Chairman of the firm, Mr Thomas Flohr, speaking with newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday, said the investment would involve the use of newly manufactured airlines, which would travel directly from the country to any destination in the world.

Flohr expressed the hope that the private charter airline operation would boost the nation’s aviation sector and grow the economy.

He said: “No Vistajet aircraft will fly without a manufacturer’s warranty and that is the financial commitment which is very significant to global challenge out there, and approximately 150 million dollars investment we dedicate to this country.

“The world, today, wants to connect point to point and certainly, Nigeria is the strongest market, especially in Africa. Vistajet has been here for more than three years and we see this as next expansion step to bring 60 million dollar global express to the country and fly the executive and captains of industries on the best aircraft, which exist today, to anywhere in the world non-stop.”

The airline had made order for 56 new Bombardier global jets, with 86 further options valued at $7.8 billion.

“We had more than 900 take-offs out of Nigeria in 2012 alone, with three flights on average per day,” he added.

Asked if there were plans to set up aircraft maintenance facility in the country, flohr said the firm was in collaboration with local partners, especially in Lagos and Abuja, whose infrastructure would be used for aircraft servicing.

He added that while other operators make use of a 30-year old aircraft with mediocre safety records, the country would be of immense benefit with its new aircraft.

Not true, $150million can buy you at least two new A320ceo or Two new B737NG according to latest Airbus and Boeing list prices for 2013. It can also fetch you nearly 3 new Bombardier C Series depending on your upgrades.

I would rather go for One A320neo and one Bombardier C Series all brand new with that money cool

The $150 million investment could be in the area of training pilots, engineers and other aviation professionals.
It's clearly stated in the article that the company has committed a whopping $7.8bn to the acquisition of aircraft.

It is pertinent to note that VISTJET is a LUXURY executive charter jet service provider, and I find it interesting that they had about 900 take offs from Nigeria alone last year! Who are those using this executive charter service? Which business men use these services to fly in and out of Nigeria?

I remember reading that article in Toronto last year about the $7.8bn orders and it appeared not all are firmed orders. But that is an investment that would get any bank inviting you over for a round table pally with some Argentina Melbeck cool

Sorry those monies belong to a Bank! If Nigeria banks were strong or if NEXIM bank had real purpose instead of funding tractors from China, this is the sort of deals they will be helping the like of Dana do with a commitment by the Airframer to build at least two MRO facility in the country.

The company is only contributing it's own part to further the development of aviation in Nigeria. Other firms and individuals are welcome to make additional investments.

Very true. Imagine a nation where N4bn is budgeted for a house for First Lady, surely e government can pour $10bn into that sector and recover it back in 5years through taxes.

I just gave you an example of how quickly you recoup that money back on any high yielding route. Imagine if they fly two A320 from Lagos to London twice daily, surely they will be smiling to the bank with more cash at hand.
