BackTrack6:

Hmmmm, what a question. You already run a virtual machine and you're still asking. The only consequence you will encounter is that all running OS will compete for the RAM but since u run just one OS along with your host OS, ur 2gig RAM can manage them. For me, I use a 2gig RAM system with 3 OSes running in my virtual machine. So you're good.

Ŧђɑ̤̥̈̊п̥̥̲̣̣̣kƨ boss. Grateful. This is a go ahead to install kali for me.

^^

In addition to what Backtrack6 said, the best thing you can do is to upgrade to a 4GB RAM atleast. .and dedicate at least 1GB to kali for optimum performance (even though 512MB was stated as the minimum in its official doc).

Imagine you have to run some password cracking scripts with a HUGE dictionary wordlist or you need to dump a huge Database. .Also, another mistake you should NOT make is allocate small HDD space to kali. I initially gave Kali 12GB HDD but after installation, I was getting the "memory low error". I tried expanding it but it became a HUGE problem as there was no possible way of expanding after installation (judging from all the searches I did). . Also, remember with time, you will have to update the frameworks. .Metasploit framework on its own could take about 300MB per update. .

All in all, for optimum performance, atleast 1GB RAM & 20GB HDD.

Tried to share folders after that and I was told guest additions isn't installed.

For those who were not able to participate in the competition organized by NotSoSecure, which slyr0x informed us of here, you can visit this link to see how the flags should have been captured. Hacking involves patience indeed.

Dude i figured it out.
Follow these steps
navigate to etc/apt/sourcelist
edit it i.e sourcelist
paste the 2 lines below in it
deb http://http.kali.org/kali kali main non-free contrib
deb http://security.kali.org/kali-security kali/updates main contrib non-free

Source repositories
In case you require source packages, you might also want to add the following repositories as well:
(i addede it )
deb-src http://http.kali.org/kali kali main non-free contrib
deb-src http://security.kali.org/kali-security kali/updates main contrib non-free

save and exit

open terminal
apt-get update
apt-get update && apt-get install -y linux-headers-$(uname -r)

after that concludes:
now to install guest addtn
cd media/cdrom (change directory)
ls (listing files in cdrom)
sh VBoxLinuxAdditions.run (run shell script)

u shouldn't have a problem after this anymore.

Restart vm.

Hello guys, today I'm going to show you the easiest way to install backtrack on an android device. For this tutorial you need: Rooted android device Linux installer (Can be found on Google play) Zarchiver (Can be found on Google play) Busybox (Can be found on Google play) Android-VNC (Can be found on Google play) Terminal Emulator (Can be found on Google play) All of the programs mentioned above are free. Ok, now let's start, The first thing you need to do is install Busybox from Google play
Install it, then open it when it's done, it will install some more things. When it's done, install Linux Installer from Google Play:
Open Linux installer, then click on Install Guides from the list on your right hand side:
When you click that, you'll see a list of Linux distros, click on Backtrack and you will see a screen with steps on how to install it. Now click on the second page of those steps, you will get a page that looks like this:
Just click on "Download Image", and let it finish downloading. While it's downloading, open Google play and install Terminal Emulator, and Zarchiver. Terminal Emulator:
Zarchiver:
When it finishes downloading, open Zarchiver, and look for the ZIP file that you downloaded, and extraxt the image into a root folder called "backtrack", extract the image into an external memory card not the internal one. Once it's done, open Linux Installer again, and click on launch, you'll get a screen that looks like this:
If it didn't recognize any distro, click on Setting > Edit then change the file path there to your backtrack image, the .img file that you extracted. When it finally say "backtrack" on the drop down list, click "Start Linux" Terminal Emulator will open, you just have to proceed with the installation steps, ask you for a new password, and some preferences. When it's done you will get a red "root@localhost~#" like the picture bellow:
You are now in backtrack! Now if you want backtrack in GUI, open Google play, and install Android VNC:
Open It when it finishes installing, and it will look like this:
IP address, you can get your IP by opening backtrack terminal, in terminal emulator, and running "ifconfig" command:
Settings for VNC are, Username: backtrack Password: backtrac IP: from the "ifconfig" command or just put 127.0.0.1 Color Format: 24-bit Now click connect, and boom! You'r in backtrack Desktop! wink
When you finis using it, remember to disconnect VNC AND exit backtrack in Terminal Emulator, else it will be taking your battery in the background.
And note that Ubuntu can be installed in the same exact way, just the username and password for VNC will change. That's it guys, enjoy! smiley Love

i will advice kali linux because some tools on backtrack especially backtrack 2 and less cannot update because they have change dare update repository from svn to gittube. so for you to update u will need to either programically edit some files or delete the tool and download a new one. another things is that it is more easire to access tools on kali to backtrack. am not saying BT is bad becsause i still use BT but it can be a pain in the ass sometime. about the book. some of my favorite book is grey hat hackin, underground hackers book, maximum security, exploitation e.t.c. to get latest book just got to http://kat.ph and enter hacking at the search bar. it is a torrent site. if u nid any other tin just ask. welcome boss.

Good morning all. Abeg dons in the house, smtin dey wan confuse imelf no be me. Oyibo say make we disable Java for our system as the thing get vulnerability. Though it is cool but I don't seem too good with the whole thing. For example AngryIP scanner is a very good tool that tells us which node is live on a network. VegaSetup is also another tool used to check vulnerabilty on web apps. One common thing with these 2 tools, among others, is that they require Java to first of all install properly before being used. I have tried AngryIP scanner and I can vouch for it, though I haven't tried Vega yet.
Why Java dey do person like this or why winch dey follow Java. Any write up one goes through, they'll advise that Java be disabled. My people abeg help me put mouth for this matter.
@Tolustar, u wan install uncle Kali as a starter. No let am break ur head oo. Just teasing mahn. Keep it up. I repeat, uncle slyr0x, we still dey follow u oooo smiley God bless us all.

lol. java av some vulnerability but if you really need those app. i will advice you to use any of this options
1. enable java when you need to use the software and disable it back after using. this will reduce the risk.
2. try to use a very good anti virus especially anti virus that work in heuristic mode because if though the hacker may exploit the vulnerabilty in java, the hacker still need a payload to do anything bad. if u av a gud antivirus it may help you against that
3. i think most java exploit code need to be run somehow i.e throught your browser or a script or a java code e.t.c. i.e it might not be possible to exploit directly like a smb or http service so you can try to disable java on ur browser and be careful with any file you recieve. so you can still be able to you ur software without been afraid. try to disable java for ur browser might do
4. try to go to website like http://exploit-db.com and enter the name of ur software and see if any vulnerability av been reported. if not u might be still be safe when using the software
NOTE: none of this method is a sure way of protecting urself againt java hack it is only an advice . gudluck boss.
