Oahray: smh. People still do not know how to answer questions. You were not asked if constant electricity would automatically make Nigeria a super power. You were asked if Nigeria CAN become a super power WITHOUT constant electricity. They are two different things.

It's like someone asking you: "Could Usain Bolt have won his olympic medals without legs?" and for an answer, you go on and on about the rest of us that have legs but are not fast runners. Is that what you were asked?
Don't mind that guy, he's just a noise maker and nothing more.

Orikinla: Regular supply of electricity does not translate into modernity as even many countries with regular power supply are still backward and underdeveloped in Africa.
I have been to a place with regular electric power supply in Nigeria, but the place is like Ajegunle in Lagos.
The community has an ultra modern library, but the people hardly go there.
They have enough jobs, but they are still intellectually retarded and depending more on their salaries instead of being creative and productive.
Even if you give morons regular electricity, that cannot transform them in super humans until they have the brains on how to use that regular power supply for development of modern technology and intellectual society.
Creativity in Arts and Sciences is the only way to develop into super power and not when the greatest ambition of majority of Nigerians is to earn a seven digit salary that does not make anyone a great achiever.
Super powers are made by the creativity and productivity of authors, innovators and inventors and not by salary earners.
Nigeria must invest in startups in the creative and manufacturing industries.

What makes a super power?
No regular power supply, but the leadership of the intelligentsia in the corridors of power and the promotion of meritocracy in democracy and not the leadership of political contractors and opportunists rigging elections to usurp power and plunder the nation like the present situation in Nigeria.

This is more than the primary school answer you want and as know primary school IQ has not helped majority of Nigerians to even think more than monkeys.
That is why majority of Nigerian graduates are jobless, because of lack of ratiocination.

Nigeria cannot become a super power without electricity. But the lack of regular electricity is not why Nigeria is underdeveloped. The low IQ of majority of Nigerians who are intellectually re-tarded is the major obstacle.

Monkeys will still be monkeys even with all the electricity in the world. And majority of Nigerians reason like monkeys and behave like monkeys, even here on Nairaland. They know how to consume bananas, but they don't know how to grow banana plants.

Yes Nigeria can become a super power without electricity because there is a proverb in french that says , 'Aux pays des aveugles le borgne est Roi' - In a country of blind people ,one eyed man is the king'. Now if other african countries or countries are adamant in becoming a super power, where they are blind in been that super power, we (nigeria) that is blind can have advantage over other country. Note: the advantage becomes a 'one eye' for us to be the king or super power as the scenario given. This is in relation to the proverb I gave in the beginning . IN A COUNTRY OF BLIND PEOPLE , ONE EYED MAN IS THE KING.

Taking that saying to heart means you saying that every countrie more powerfull than nigeria has to suffer a major diaster. Thus making nigeria the one eyed man. It is next imposibil that every country would be knocked out that badly and if they do nigeria will fall. Where you going to buy your finshed products and sell your oil.

Do you know how many companies have closed down in Nigeria due to outrageous power cost?
Vitafoam relocated to Ghana few years ago. The cost of running generator is unbearable to many businesses.

My former company closed down because of power/electricity consumption cost.

Electricity will open ground for entreprenures.

How can a country become super power without industrialization?

I believe you are educated. Dont prove otherwise. You are not dumb.

yes, something like that. We all saw the global recession that happened . Its not like Nigeria was affected by it unlike how it was affected in europe or US where a lot of jobs were cut etc. So yes, countries can be affected by major disaster such as nature disaster so it can be possible. We have seen it through global economic crisis such as the recession,in this life, we never know what can happen.

You should first try and find a brain before you comment!!

Did it occur to you that the reason why the U.S didnt have electricity in the years when they had blackout was prolly because they were part of those who invented the equipments needed for proper and steady supply of electricity that the world over uses today?! Or do you think that God created Transformers and electric cables too?!!

Here is a simple breakdown for your fickle mind;

Answer:
Thomas Edison patented an electric distribution system in 1880, which was essential to capitalize on the invention of the electric lamp. On December 17, 1880, Edison founded the Edison Electric Illuminating Company. The company established the first investor-owned electric utility in 1882 on Pearl Street Station, New York City. It was on September 4, 1882, that Edison switched on his Pearl Street generating station's electrical power distribution system, which provided 110 volts direct current (DC) to 59 customers in lower Manhattan.

Now!! If Thomas Edison did that in 1880, that means puts it at 123 years ago.. And America is 230 or so years old!!

NIGERIA DOES NOT NEED TO WAIT FOR ANY INVENTION... Nuclear energy has been invented, Hydro energy has been invented, Solar energy has been invented, Wind energy has been invented, e.t.c... All we have to do is carry money and buy it and fix it.

Going by your stupid logic, Nigeria has no business sending any satellite into space or even having cellular phones.. Afterall, when America was just 50 years old, I'm sure they didnt have mobile phones either.. angry

Power is important to drive industry and investment but it is not the solution to our problems. The real drivers of our country should be children!! Education! Giving our children all that is needed for them to be in inventors and drivers of a global future, india does'nt have constant power supply but it's younger generation are pushing boundaries in software technology and very soon their economy will trunce europe. The solution to nigeria's problems has to be an all of the above approach.
