The poster is not 100% sincere.
Although school fees in OOU are on the high side, only medical students pay between 200-300K.
Some students still pay between 40-60K per session.
The staff of the school are so corrupt that many students usually refuse to pay their school fees knowing that they can bribe the staff with a fraction of their accumulated school fees during final year clearance. Consequently, many students would rather use their school fees for other things than pay the fees as at when due. However, there were also many students that really wanted to pay but either did not have the money or became victims of almighty recordsoft. Recordsoft was a portal for e-payment of school fees and registration. Payment is now being made through POS to prevent the endemic corruption in the system.
Management of the school was nothing to write home about until recently. The peaceful protest is good but let no one incite them to violence because they will only have themselves to blame over seemingly worthless certificates.
I am an alumnus of the school.

I can't imagine paying up to such exorbitant fee imposed by that state government yet standards are far from them.We can't blame the v.c cos no assistance of whatsoever is given to OOU the only way for them is to go hard on the student.Well sorry to the students i think they are more familiar to strikes.

You are not an alumni. You are either an alumnus (male) or an alumna (female). Alumni is the plural form.

But payment of fees is a pre-requisite for registration now. The school authority should be blamed for their laxity in allowing a progression without full compliance with the mandatories. Tertiary education even in most advanced countries if not all, is not free. THe only difference is that they have enabled environment to operate and indigent students can work while still studying apart from schorlaships support for the outstanding students. In university communities of western world, you will find the students doing most of the menial jobs to support themselves - bar tending, waiters at local pubs, cleaning etc. But here, students, even the most indigent of them all, will be involved in heinous activities like cultism, internet scamming etc instead of them to go get something meaningful doing. They start to ''form'' right from the moment they enter the university...

Truth is tertiary education cannot be free. Go round the several federal universities and you will be alarmed at the infrastructural collapse. Obafemi Awolowo Univeristy was a masterpiece when it was fully developed, a visit to the campus today will show relics of past glories because government subvention cannot and will not be sufficient to maintain the infrastructure and the human talents. Same for ABU Zaria, UNN etc. Most states have no business setting up a university in the first place because even their entire monthly allocation will not suffice in maintaining one.

So, what do we have, a structurally defective oven, a demotivated and frustrated baker and ultimately, half-baked loaves.

Imagine paying that outrageous fee and still remain unemployed for years after school. Enterpreneurship might eventually be the last resort of some graduates...our leaders don't give a damn about us. There's no hope for nigerian youths...May God help us.

OLoriburuku, werey people. Where dem expect the poor student from poor background to pay 300k to 400k for tuition fees.
Re: OOU Students Protest Bizarre Policy Of Class Repetition For Late Payment Of Fees by Pennywise(m): 4:21pm On Mar 18, 2013
I suppose the school authorities will now have to be very careful on whom they award pass marks. No use passing a student who cannot pay school fees when there are others waiting cash-in-hand.

This policy sounds very much like what we expect from a Nigerian private university.
Re: OOU Students Protest Bizarre Policy Of Class Repetition For Late Payment Of Fees by JimmyBoy1: 4:22pm On Mar 18, 2013
but why shoul studends be asked to pay N300k and N400k in a government owned school, while minimum wage is pegged at N18,000.

That is how you go about rubbishing your Alma Mata, me i am not an "alumni" oo but an Alumnus of the great Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye and i will defend it anywhere because the institution made me.
As for the issue on ground i don't know why Prof Saburi is doing this but don't forget that it is a state school and he takes order from the state government too so don't be quick to judge. Wish you guys the very best as i always pray for the advancement of O.O.U
