Ohanaeze Can No Longer Guarantee Peace In The East – by Nobody: 1:44am On Mar 21, 2013
The pan-Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has said that it can no longer guarantee peace in the East in the face of the continued killing of the Igbo in some states in the North.

The group said that stopping its youths from carrying out reprisal over the years, even in the face of extreme anger, had been an onerous job.

It added that it was not sure if it would continue to restrain them from doing so, especially in the South-East.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo, in a statement by its Secretary General, Dr. Joe Nwaorgu, said this on Wednesday while reacting to last Monday’s bombings in Kano State in which many Igbo were killed.

But just as the statement was made available to journalists, Jama’atu Nasril Islam, a group led by Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar 111, called on the Federal Government to urgently track down and bring those behind the series of bombings and killings in the country to book.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo, however, still appealed to its youth wing to maintain the peace while awaiting President Goodluck Jonathan’s reaction to the latest “dastardly” act. It advised that in the future, “ Islamists fundamentalist murderers must be tackled with the same ruthlessness with which they destroy lives.”

Its statement reads, “We roundly condemn the sponsors and perpetrators of the continued cold blooded murder of fellow Nigerians. The Igbo nation is taking the heaviest toll on the casualty list and Ndigbo are grossly pained by this organised pogrom on her people.

“Ndigbo cannot continue to bear this unnecessary and unprovoked loss of their blood. Patriotism is just not enough. Keeping our restive youths calm has been an onerous job and only God has helped thus far. We can no longer guarantee the civil response of our people in a country that has become one huge slaughter house.

“The Federal Government must convince the people, especially Ndigbo, that they are safe in Nigeria. Meanwhile, Ohanaeze state chapters are to compile the names of all those affected in the bomb blasts.

“Let’s act fast. However, as a reminder, no tribe is essentially completely made up of cowards and Ndigbo are certainly no cowards.

“Need we remind these murderers that no ethnic group has the monopoly of violence? A final position will be taken in due course after due consultation with Igbo leadership.”

The National Organising Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youths, Mr. Okechukwu Isiguzoro, said that Ohanaeze youths would no longer keep quiet if the killings continued.

“For now, we will not do anything because we have chosen to listen to the advice of our leaders who have asked us to be quiet and calm. But if it happens again, or something similar to that occurs again in any northern state, advice or no advice, we would be forced to retaliate,” Isiguzoro said.

Northern Elders blamed GEJ for bombing meaning the Northern Elders can no longer guarantee peace in the North.

It is an open hypocrisy and evil for you to blame Ohanaeze for reciting what the Northern Elders shamefully declared.

Ohanaeze is just learning to following the footsteps of their counterpart in the north.

In summmary, GEJ is responsible for any reprisal attack everywhere in Nigeria.

War, attacks, and counter-attacks won't solve the problem - you lot need to think critically before you start killing one another everywhere in that cesspit... Somalia and Sudan should act as a case-study - this will only lead to an endless war with all sides losing by the time you're done...

Your president has failed you and he should be held responsible for being an indecisive weakling... All he cares about is just the loot him and his cronies stay stashing somewhere safe...

Perhaps, everyone needs to go back to their respective regions and ask for a renegotiation of the union.. undecided

At the bolded - GEJ is responsible for the attack as well...

Someone needs to help him find his balls and his brain cells wherever he left them... He has been a wimp and a sissy since he became president... I honestly think he's a mangina and he wears tampon as well.. grin

The Northerners in the east know we can't take such news and pretend nothing happened for too long, no wonder they fled Onitsha even before the latest Kano bombing filtered into town unlike some other group who are in denial and pretend none of their kinsmen were involved in the carnage. Little wonder the Fulani-Boko Haram is busy ravaging their territory and even will fight them to the last man in their region and they still pretend "nothing dey happen". Continue living in denial, it suits you guys though.

someone has to speak up and fight for igbo. everyone is protecting its own and i believe if ohanaeze is standing up to protect igbos children then we ought to applaud its action in this instance.

it should not take ohanaeze to declare what is obvious, the northerner ought to already know that a reprisal would happen sooner or later in east. what are they doing to prevent it? it will not be the fault of ibos if indeed they go on a rampage but i will blame north for pushing them to the wall.

by same token, ohanaeze ought to make declaration and hands off from ibos who stubbornly remain with their family in this terror zone.

Ohaneze should call their sons and daughers who are in the North to return home. If reprisal attacks start, the Ibos will suffer more. Killing suya sellers, shoemakers, security guards etc who are northerners can't be compared to the calibre of IBOs that will be killed up north.

How many Northerners have properties in the East?? But I can tell you that IBOs have lots of properties in the North. Tell your people to sell their properties, close their businesses and return home..

But the truth is‎ even if they chose to leave the North, they will never return to AlaIgbo. Instead they'll run to the South-West or Cameroon or even Gabon. Better to die at the hands of traders than to be killed by your own kinsmen...

What an irresponsible statement from the mouthpiece of the entire South East people! May be only when MASSOB unleash terror on innocent muslim northerners living in the South East as a result of their unguided statement (incitement) will they realise the difference between Boko haram and Almajris.

Some group of misguided illiterates up north chose to turn their land into a war zone, unsafe for any form of investment and the so called "educated leaders" down east want same for their own land to. Somebody should tell this ohaneze people that killing hausa men in the east will only turn the place into a war zone, same as the north. If they can channel half of the energy they put into supporting GEJ, talking about igbo presidency, fighting for Biafra and other irrelivant things into pressurizing the federal government to up her game or change her tactics in the fight against terrorism (or "killing of igbos in the north" as they say), maybe things would have been better.. I am not an igbo hater, but someone needs to tell them the truth. Your leaders are bunch of pretenders. Its only when a major bomb blast hapens that they roll out their "war drums", making very unintelligent comments like this above. What happens after a week?! Yes! Life goes back to normal, they return to licking GEJ's butt, fghting for contracts, fighting for igbo presidency, fighting for Biafra, and wait till another aboki decides to blow himseflf up along with some of "their igbo brothers", then they dust up their war drums again and the cycle continues. Smh!

I hope the north understands the message Ohaneze is trying to send... FIX YOUR HOME... There's no way a bomb like this will go off without any pre intelligence collection from the local community...

So so on point! Look I am a thorough-bred-Igbo man, but when it comes to Nigerian politics we dont cut it and with the present kind of leaders we are unfortunate to be bestowed on by the products of corruption from the centre, We would never be there, at least for the foreseeable future. It pains and my heart bleeds for the so called youth from my place cos it seems, we have not learned anything from the misdeeds of these Abuja contractors, who are only interested in what comes to their family and lineage without giving a damn what their people intends to benefit. The same set of people would come back and play the ethnic card when they are being outsmarted in their vainglory in Abuja. Surprising, the youth of the Igbos who are "assumed" to be intelligent enough to decipher when deceit is being played, would be the first to buy that and start playing the victims. My Igbo brothers and sisters on this forum, can we ask ourselves these probing questions below and try to reflect on them before we decide where to pitch our tent in 2015;

Why do the Igbo always support any government in power (Shagari, Babangida, Abacha, OBJ,Yardua and GEJ, I stand to be corrected on these)?

Why are the Igbos only remembered during electioneering periods?

Why do we have the worst road network in whole of the country and yet we have supported any Government that had ruled?

Why did we allow PDP to rig these characters into the helm-of-affairs in our respective states notably Elechi and T A Orji?

What is our stand or the so -called stick and carrot approach in 2015?

What has the present government at the center done for us to warrant us supporting it in 2015.

Ndi Ibe Anyi E keleem unu, Ka Udo Chia!!!

Blessed are the peacemakers - Those who strive to prevent contention, strife, and war; who use their influence to reconcile opposing parties, and to prevent lawsuits and hostilities in families and neighborhoods.

Lets maintain peace NDI IGBO!

The same can be said here in Aba as for the safety of the Yorubas.

Quantum of Yorubas are moving freely and living safely without harassment/intimidation or threat to their lives.

The Yorubas have many law chambers and are in great number in industries littered in Aba.

They pastor most churches and serve as Sales Reps in Aba for most companies located in South West.

No Yoruba has been kidnapped as an individual in Aba for whatever reason.

As Lagos is safe for Igbo, the same can be said of my town for Yorubas.

Hehe. I noticed a clear shift in Ohanaeze position on Igbo attacking others in the East. This is a historical shift, and I bet they made that shift out of a concern that Igbo youths are beginning to see them as part of the enemy killing them in Nigeria.
Igbo opinion/followership/consensus on any issue is like a freight train. It is SLOW to build, but when it gathers speed is very difficult to stop.
Kids can keep laughing at Ohanaeze's warning, but wise men already understand the message behind the message.

BTW I appeal to umu Igbo to PLEASE ignore those baiting the usual "chicken fights" between Igbo and Yoruba.
I have declared that wasteful and irrelevant.
Both Igbo and Yoruba died in that Kano bus bombing.

Let's keep the kids where they belong -under the chair. cool
