I ain't disputing that fact of urban centers having "petty crimes". But Lagos crimes are not petty as the first two posters have stated. That's why it is essential for those opposing what the officer has said to know it wasn't like that before they moved with their ghana-must-go bags to lagos from whatever village they migrated from. Lagos of two decades ago is way safer than it is now. These same industrious people who invented kidnapping, drug pushing... are the ones that made Nigeria the global headquarter for kidnapping.

Same as other Cities in the world like Tokyo and New York equally have slums and relative high rate of crime unless you are telling me that the crimes perpetuated in NY , Tokyo etc are done by the igbos too. I kind of agree with Mr Frank. Since Lagos is the farthest Nigerian state from Maiduguri, it can never be far from being the safest. Whoever disagrees with me should bring out a riffle and shoot the sky.

Well, given the number of times I have been subjected to the pains of criminality in Lagos, I'd have to agree.
in the entire 365 days of 2012, I have had to near-death situations, 1 with fleeing (shooting robbers), the other with Police-men who robbed me. that is just 2 days I could have been killed by 363 days I lived without incident in Lagos.. it is SAFE

For a city with high population, Lagos is very safe. Probably if you were to extrapolate using number of crimes per 100 people, it might actually be one of the safest in the world. New York and Chicago definitely have more muggings and murder than Lagos. it is all a matter of perspective.

How many of the crimes in Lagos are reported? One thing i know for sure is that petty crimes are popular in Lagos and they are not usually recorded.

Bros, calabar isn't as safe as you might think oo. They rob people in taxis a lot the 'one chance' style.

And some boys in calabar are as crazy as those in lagos, but lagos is definately not the safest city in Nigeria.

Yes, Lagos is the safest place in Nigeria and Africa. There was robbery at the airport last two weeks, that's one of the highlights of a safe city.

U be MuMu oo. Because robbers served a notice does that mean they carried out their action. You dont even know if its a plan work by an internal person. Lagos is by far still the safest place to be in Nigeria considering the fact that it has one of the highest population an yet little or no case of robbery for a very long time. And for those of you who arent lagosians ask other lagosians that drives @ night and they will tell you how police men are all around the former danger zones in watch. Fashola Thumbs up on this.

That does not sound like good news. It sounds like all other cities in Nigeria are now grossly unsafe. When New York becomes the 'safest' city in America, then all Americans would be grossly worried!
