Crude Oil = $109/barrel
Cocoa bean = $2,250/metric tonne

approx. 7.3 barrels of crude oil weighs 1 metric ton.

Therefore Crude Oil is $795.7/metric tonne and Cocoa is $2,250 for same tonnage.

While oil is found in 4 geozones in Nigeria, Cocoa is found only in 1.

By ranking Nigeria is 11th in global oil production but 3rd largest cocoa producer in the world.

SW NEEDS TO PUT ITS AGRO PRIORITY IN ORDER.

This comparison is the Biggest Joke i have seen from these jokers in a long while. Moderators should take this Joke to the Joke Section immediately.

This Comparison is a big Joke indeed, Cocoa should be Compared not to the Oil industry but to one Oil well.

The Cocoa Economy is just like the Kola Nut Economy a one LGA/State Economy .

Niger Delta Exports 2.5 M barrels minimum a of crude oil a day how many basins or baskets of Cocoa does yorubas export in a year.
At 2.5M barrels a day the Niger Delta Oil yields a whopping $272.5 M ($272500000) or N43.6B (N43600000000) daily
The Export of Crude oil sustains the National economy which includes 36 states and 774 LGA and the Federal Government and is responsible for 80 % of the Forex the country earns while Cocoa is not even able to sustain the economy of 1 state government in the South Western states

Cocoa output in Nigeria, the world’s fourth-biggest producer, is forecast to fall at least 20 percent due to disease and floods stemming from heavy rains this year, the country’s main industry group said
Cocoa production is expected to be 200,000 metric tons in 2012-13. That compares with 250,000 tons the year earlier and a September forecast of 300,000 tons, according to the association, which represents farmers, traders and processors.
even at the that Cocoa production is expected to be 200,000 metric tons in 2012-13 because Cocoa for March delivery fell 1.1 percent to 1,584 pounds ($2,513) a ton on NYSE Liffe by 12:30 this will yield an income of 200,000 X $2513
502600000 this is just $502M which is about N80B which is not even up to the budget of a Niger Delta state

Cocoa production is expected to be 200,000 metric tons in 2012-13

How can somebody in his right senses compare an N80B /year economy to N43.6B economy per day

You have really gone nuts. Does cocoa grow in your dilapidated IIorin neighborhood? How many metric tons of cocoa are produced in a day? Does a lapper such as you realize that cocoa plant, even though tropical plant, is seasonal?

Re: Cocoa Vs Oil by CyberG: 12:29am On Apr 12, 2013
Some people across the Niger will die of heart attack with jealousy and unveiling these kinds of secret. Yes, there is oil in other part of Nigeria just like the SW has oil in Lagos, Ondo and Ogun states. Oil sands in Ondo is one of the largest deposits in the world which is so far largely untapped. After all that the SW can top it up with $2250 / ton of cocoa. You people are so lucky in that part of Nigeria. Never mind adding the finest workforce in quality and large numbers!
Re: Cocoa Vs Oil by TheBookWorm: 12:35am On Apr 12, 2013
The South West should not simply rely on cocoa, but also focus on manufacturing and other agribusinesses as well. Having a diversity of industries lead to job growth and prevents a shock to your system when prices for a particular product fall.
