My dear it is very clear, it's for the students, maybe you are asking also for the teachers which will be a great idea.
omo9ja1: hijab for student or teachers?

I think is very sensitive issue and need to be put out for debate smiley

Please can you explain how does wearing hijab disturb others?

For the fact that it is allowed in the UK does not make it a standard, what about France?
funnyx:

You guys are just being paranoid, well I can understand its due to boko haram but seriously hijab is just a mere scarf. I'm not a Muslim but I have no problem with Muslim girls putting on hijab, here in the UK they wear it to school, work etc and it causes no one any headache except the extreme right wingers.

what has banning of hijab got to do in our educational set-up,when walking nakedly in the campus has no effect in either of our curriculum programme, does that means that they won't behave well in the school or they won't be academically sound,if not that we are just been bias...Is hijab our english and mathematics or other subjects that we've not even meet the standard compare to other countries of the world,or is hijab the cause of the mass failure of the jambites........hehehehehe...i just dey laugh....lets learn to be wise at least for once...

Reski: this is bullshit if lagos is a secular state it simply implies everybody is free to practice and dress however he or she wishes if muslims decide to wear hijjab to school wats the big deal after all everybody is supposed to be accomodated in a secular society irrespective of weda u are muslim hindu christain or pagan wateva it is it shouldnt b the concern of the state.
But law is a law irrespective of our religion, culture and tradition.
You can't wear agbada to bank on monday as a staff nor can u wear pijamas to office as a police officer.
But here in Nigeria we don't knw d diffrence btw rules and freedom because of our sentiments.

Nigerian President-in-Waiting, and Executive Governor of Lagos State Nigeria, Barrister Raji Fashola SAN, is acutely aware that a clear separation between church and state authority is one of the core principles that distinguish SECULAR democracies, which subscribe to the unifying standard of impartial governance and human rights that is practiced by the industrailzed modern world, from the backward arbitrariness that characterizes religion-infused theocracies of the type practiced in the worlds' least developed, and most violent rogue nations.

In consonance with his resolve to maintain that vital separation of church and state, President-to-Be Raji Fashola, himself a devout Muslim, has boldly abolished in Lagos schools those hideous face-concealing burkha masquerade outfits that women are foced to wear in theocratic back-waters like the badlands of Afghanistan. In applying this valiant political master-stroke, Fashola has simultaneously safeguarded further the residents of his state, who can now rest assured that terrorists are far less likely to try and infiltrate Lagos state dressed as masked fundamentalist women going to school.

Aderostock: Lagos State Government says pupils in its public schools are only allowed to wear conventional uniforms to the school.

It added that usage of other appendages, including Hijab, a head scarf for Muslim women, would not be allowed.

The Commissioner for Education Mrs. Olayinka Oladunjoye, said this on Tuesday at a press briefing in Ikeja, adding that usage of Hijab and other religious materials in public schools was against government’s policy.

She said, “I summoned a stakeholder’s meeting that was chaired by the Commissioner for Home Affairs and Culture, Alhaji Oyinlomo Danmole. The Muslim students were represented at the meeting, Lawyers were represented. We discussed the issue at length and we reached certain agreement.

“We agreed that students could only use their Hijab when they want to go for prayers, when they want to read Qur’an, and when they are going for Jumat prayer on Fridays.

“It was agreed that no student should wear Hijab on her uniform. Doing so will cause confusion and break down of the law.

“Whoever wish that his daughter should be wearing Hijab while going to school and within the school should send such child to a private Muslim school,”

The commissioner, who said the government was committed to overhauling the education sector, added that the administration had spent over N7bn in upgrading the Lagos State University.

Oladunjoye added that the government would continue to provide qualitative education “by all means”.

She said various educational development programmes like Eko Project, Support Our Schools Initiative, and specialised development programmes for teachers and administrators in 20 specialised areas, were parts of government programmed to boost education.

She said, “For the teachers and administrators, we are boosting their capacities in areas such as subject mastery, leadership, classroom management, assessment and evaluation, ICT, Basic Accounting and many others.”

Quite to the contrary good sir, I consider myself "right thinking", but unlike some prudes up in here, I really enjoy seeing young women dressed in very few clothes, provided of course that they are toned, and blessed with a nice firm yet jiggly all-natural rack. Thank you Jeeeesus!

If the muslims are allowed to wear hijab to school everyone should dress to represent what they believe. If they believe in the ombathse cult of nasaraw state. The male students should wear black skirt without tops. After all it is freedom of worship.

Those in guru maharaji should have their beard uncut.

Is there any christian on Nairaland?

Please remind us how Marry mother of Jesus used to dress in her lifetime.....no arguments just a simple questions

Bcoz its laughable how people seem to dislike a material that covers nudity and preserves their virtue....

Does the Bible preach against women covering Hijab?

Its amazing how much a certain religion has wanned and forbidden of modesty

I said the truth you are afraid of huh...

O they should be dressing like whores huh.?.like lady wearing brazillian hairs huh?

O subhanalah...the vanity of the world has lessened humanity in obedience of God
