NFF Vice-President Arrested For Money Laundering by UyiIredia(m): 2:47pm On May 28, 2013
Another very sad development.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested the Vice President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Mike Umeh.

Umeh was picked up by operatives of the Commission on Monday in Lagos, following a warrant by a Sokoto State High Court.

He will on Tuesday (today) appear before Justice Bello Abass of the Sokoto High Court.

Umeh is an accomplice in the case of money laundering and misappropriation of public funds to the tune of N15 billion for which former Governor Attahiru Bafarawa of Sokoto State is standing trial.

“Mike Umeh is an accomplice in the case of money laundering and misappropriation of public funds to the tune of N15 billion ($94.8m),” EFCC spokesman Wilson Uwujaren told BBC Sport.

“It’s a case for which former Governor Attahiru Bafarawa of Sokoto State is standing trial.”

The Nigerian Football Federation has however declined to make a comment on the issue saying “it is a very sensitive matter”.

“The issue mentioned has nothing to do with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF),” NFF spokesman Ademola Olajire said.

“It’s a very sensitive matter and the NFF cannot make a categorical statement at the moment.

“The NFF is aware of the position and is continuing to monitor its progress.”

Since we've read news of a phone thief bagging 2 years and a Blackberry thief (a teenager) possibly facing 2 years imprisonment. I certainly hope justice is carried out in this case. Of course, this news dents the NFF image which, in the first instance, is in a sorry state.

He was an accomplice of former Gov Attahiru and the money wasn't NFF's money. I can't see how it would dent their image considering it was not sanctioned by NFF leadership.

His criminal records should av been properly checked before he was allowed to vie for the NFF post.

As a "sitting staff and VICE PRESIDENT" of NFF, it damages their image!

Which good organisation employs a THIEF?

But then, the NFF said "its a sensitive matter, we are aware of the position, we continue to monitor its progress"
If you look at the above quote, you will see that it makes no sense, its all noise and no-meaning ....and it is just the "signature rant" of thieving organisations/people.
It sounds like what a Police PRO will say...... and in terms of looting and corruption, the NFF is perhaps better than the Police!
shocked shocked
