Baba Suwe Loses N25M NDLEA Damages Suit by mukina2: 1:56pm On May 31, 2013
The Court of Appeal in Lagos, has overturned the ruling of a high court and quashed the N25million damages awarded to Nollywood actor, Babatunde Omidina, more popular as Baba Suwe.

The money was due to be paid to the actor, over his detention by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), for allegedly ingesting hard drugs.

However, his lawyer, Bamidele Aturu, has stated that he would appeal the ruling.

The judicial system of Nigeria is even in worse shape than other corrupt sectors. This is laughable that we don't have effective judiciary.

NDLEA was doing their job. Sometimes it may go terribly wrong. Their scanner detected suspicious package in Suwe's gut. So they have the right to detain him based on the available evidence.

Babalegba: you are partly right but they have to pay compensation for the horrendous mistake they made.

No they don't have to. What they need to do is to publicly apologise to Baba Suwe. Suwe may seek other avenues for redress. But he wont find it in the Nigerian court. Not when greed is his motive.

I think it is quite emotional to expect this man to get any money from NDLEA after an encounter in their line of duty. If NDLEA pay Baba Suwe, then police will need to pay even those that were arrested, detained and later proven innocent in the court. NCAA will also pay airlines for stopping them from taking off on schedule for any reason. The courts will also pay the accused eact time he is confirmed innocent after judgement. Oni should be paying Fayemi and companies will be paying those that attended their jon interviews but never got the job.
