SE Will Have Access To The Sea If... by ChrisOD: 4:31am On Jul 07, 2013 |
Imo River runs from Imo, Abia, Akwa Ibom and empties into the atlantic ocean. River Niger runs from outsde Nigeria through Anambra, Imo, Rivers, Bayelsa and empties into the ocean If Nigeria ================== (hopefullly Akwa Ibom and Rivers/Bayelsa do not remain with Nigeria but form their own country or countries), then Igbos can work with Akwa Ibom and Rivers/Bayelsa to implement the dredging of these rivers up to Aba and Onitsha, respectively, to permit entry of large ships. Those countries (i.e., Akwa Ibom and Rivers) will get their shipping tolls paid for by SE, at the main wharfs, and the ships will sail inward to alaigbo. More recently, the large electrical appliances used for the Alaoji, Aba power project was shipped in via Imo River (see link). http://www.rocksonengineering.com/pages/About_Rockson/News_Imo-River-Crossing_08-09.html So what I am saying here is very possible with a little more dredging work. It looks like working on Imo River will be much more sustainable and self containing as it is devoid of external vagaries of the River Niger. Abokis may block the River Niger water upstream of Igboland. In contrast, Imo River begins in Alaigbo. Alternatively, or even in addition to the above, although Opobo is in Rivers State, it is populated to a large extent by people with Igbo ancestry (King Jaja of Opobo connection). So, with proper win-win arrangment, we can have an ''Igbo annex'' country in Opobo with more ready access to the sea. |

Maybe the old man ELechi who hasnt done crap in the poor state of Ebonyi. I guess its the Apc abi APGA Okorocha that will reach out to who? Amaechi? When we reach that bridge we will cross it. This will have nothing to do with politics but purely economical. I doubt that if Nigeria separates Akwa Ibom will be in a country with Rivers or with Igbos. They will go alone. However, Igbos and Akwa Ibom people share 1000s of things in common so we can very easily form economic alliance just for the purpose stated above. So we are working from two separate fronts: Akwa Ibom and Rivers/Bayelsa. 3 Likes |

More Imo River. These local sand dredgers are already simplifying the work of the main dredgers Men see rich forest now. Global warming has no chance here. 2 Likes

dayokanu: Switzerland is better than UK, France etc, population for population. So is Luxembourg and Austria. These countries have better living indices than most other EU countries. Do some search and educate yourself. Luxembourg GDP: 42.19 Billion per capita: $80,700 Switzerland GDP $362.4 billion per capita $54,600 Austria GDP: 357.8 Billion per capita: $42,500 (2012 est.) UK GDP 2.3 trillion per capita $36,700 (2012 est.) France GDP: 2.25 trillion per capita: $35,500 So you see that people in Luxembourg, Switzerland and Austria )no access to sea) are living better than those in UK and France (with access to sea) due to higher population of UK and France 10 Likes |

dayokanu: Although they are smaller countries, Botswana and Rwanda, especially Botswana, are far better than Nigeria. Nigeria is great now because of nothing but population. When we separate, we will lose that advantage. 4 Likes |

Nigeria GDP = 402 Billion GDP per capita: GDP/population = $2, 700 Rwanda GDP = 14.91 Billion GDP per capita: GDP/population = $ 1, 400. Botswana GDP = 32.62 Billion GDP per capita: GDP/population = $16,800. Okay!! Nigeria is actually better than Rwanda but Botswana beat us hands down But in Rwanda they have free medicals for citizens, we do not have. 3 Likes |

dayokanu: No worry continue with your landlocked abode and hope AkwaIbom would allow you dig a gutter through their region Put the GDP of all the SW states together and divide it by the population of Yorubas and see if you even reach Rwanda sef for GDP per capita. When oil go and Igbos go, then GDP of SW go drop more. Same with other regions. 6 Likes |

My analysis is that a lot of resources will be required for dredging but I noticed that it is same distance to sea between Port-Harcourt and Abia State. Much of the tributaries of the Niger starts from the Southeast and forms a network of streams and Rivers that flow into the ocean. Orashi, Aba, Otamiri and Imo are some of these Rivers. From the picture below, one can see where Otamiri joins Imo at Obigbo and further flows to Ohambele/Azumini where it joins Aba to Opobo. 1 Like
