The congress of progressive change yesterday expressed concern over the on-going strike action of the Academic Staff Union of Universities(ASUU),saying it is condemnable at this time of the nation's developmental drive. National publicity secertary of the party Rotimi fashakin,said yesterday in a statement that the strike is due to the federal government unwillingness to honour the 2009 agreement,metting only two of the ASUU demand's. "The major demand of the university teachers is the increase yearly sectoral allocation to Education in the annual budget to meet the minimum standard of 26% as enunciated by UNESCO.This we believe, to be a non-brainer for any regime that seeks to radically improve the standard of education. Between 2000 and 2010,the average sectoral allocation by successive PDP regimes was 8.12%.it is therefore not suprising that in 2010,there was a rise in fees in tertiary institutions across the nation and that no nigeria university could be found in the first 5000 in the world or first 50 in africa and over 12 million of school age are out of school,the statement said.
