The elitist sense of self that the educated and fortunate class of people carry on their shoulders has become a burden to over 90% of Nigerian voters who do not fall within this segment. This segment is well occupied by all knowing narcissus “Wole Soyinka” and his kinds; who now believes that his acknowledged monkey see monkey do achievement by colonial factors gives him the right to belittle Nigerian women in politics.

Patience Jonathan may not have had fair opportunities in life just as elitist Soyinka, but one cannot take away the tenacity of Patience Jonathan and her willingness to make mistakes in pursuit of goals. She campaigned for husband during the last election, the elite class laughed at her but she was well understood by her constituency (Women – Educated and otherwise).

Her successes irked the less than 10% opinionated elite class who already defined the office of the first lady to be something beyond Patience; an everyday Nigerian woman. This was most recently highlighted by the calls for her to be relegated to ‘being a lady first before being a first lady’. The truth of the matter is that Patience Jonathan understand that there is nothing lady like about Nigerian politics. Buhari once noted that he rather not run for the highest job in Nigeria if the best his alliance can produce is Ngozi Okonjo who should be in the kitchen cooking for her husband, Such is the story of Nigerian politics.

You will agree with me that under President Jonathan, more women have been empowered far more than any other government in the history of Nigeria has ever done. This battle is one of those battles being fought by Patience Jonathan. Nigerians should always read in-between the line when a frail that is good enough for men is considered not good enogh for women. Professor can criticise madam first lady all he want, but he can not detract the battle for empowerment of women in politics by Patience Jonathan. Chauvinism and elitism cannot win elections where erroneous diction can.

The OP is just a silly eediot. The spouse of any head of government should only be seen and not heard from like prince philip once famously said. In the eyes of the law they are mere domestic appendages of the president, male or female. In ur stu-pidity and haste to put soyinka in bad light, you've taken it entirely out of context and even opened a thread to display your stupidity. Bloody foo-l. See ur name sef, Akpomeme. I'm sure it means foo-l in whatever stupi-d tribe u come from.

Patience jonathan. In a country like nigeria,i will expect nothing less from her. A Country where money meant for execution and implementation of budgets is shared at the gates of government houses to party faithfuls. A country where thuggery, corruption is lauded and celebrated as smartness and brilliance. Where an unconstitutional woman bar a governor entourage for hours in a show of power. Where money has become a god, otherwise why would a human being call a fellow human his jesus christ? Pej,enjoy the show while it last

Wole Soyinka is a misogynist by using ''A mere domestic appendage'' to address another man's wife, what message does he want to send to those men that still believe a woman place is in the kitchen. How could he organise a press conference for the sole aim of degrading a woman.
Nigeria has gained nothing from this Prof., only big big grammar.

Please Prof, respect yourself.

same soyinka that voiced out his support for jonathan when unconstitutional politicians wanted to sideline him in 2011.
same soyinka that criticized buhari which indirectly is a political gain for Jonathan. Then, you all hailed him

But he becomes a Tribalist and bias because his present thought and opinion is against the uncultured ill-educated president's wife that you all take as your demigod.
I see you all as cowards who can't stand for the truth when your mentor and admirer make moves that are obviously wrong to any sane human. Soyinka again has proven his global respect for this giant action of supporting the right at the right time and castigating his/her senseless and shameful actions.

ill educated is the qualifying word which highlights this post. We agree Patience is ill educated. Does that make you and your (bigot) leaders any better. For Soyinka to organize a world press conference to demean the Nigerian woman highlights the subjugation women have continually gone through in Nigeria. Patience was not the only player in rivers state crises but was a perfect target for dehumanizing utterances by Soyinka because she fits his views about life.

Was it only Soyinka that targeted the president's wife as the mastermind of the Rivers' crises?
Even before Soyinka's comments, accusive fingers have been pointed at the president's wife concerning her state(rivers) crises.

Stupid feminists are always trying to bring feminism into anything, yet they wonder why people don't take them seriously. The woman in question can't even spell "feminism" - yet little willy having feminists want to align with her. You lot should be ashamed that no successful woman has embraced feminism - Lady Thatcher loathed feminism, Hilary Clinton can't stand you mofos, Susan Rice doesn't want to talk about you - shameful she-males trying too hard to be what they're not. undecided

No matter how well you dress it ,a pig will always remains a pig. Jonathan ,his wife and all the politicians in nigeria do not have a tenth of the stature of wole Soyinka.
She is an illiterate in every sense of the matter.
These people are really intimidated by truly successful people.soyinka elitist?haha.
I know the person I would prefer to dine with, if invited.
What has she done for women?
Nothing.
Her first agenda on becoming First Lady .
" etiquette conference ,aka egocentric fashion parade and ego trip at obudu cattle ranch for other jobless First Ladies ".
That was the first time I ever heard of her.

Fela 's mom did more for nigerian women that all the First Ladies combined(from Ibb -now)
She is uncultured and lack values.she is also a direct reflection of her husband .no thoroughbred would associate with someone like that ever.no wonder Obama skipped nigeria.imagine michelle(a Harvard law graduate ) in the same room as this corrupt creek illiterate .
Even in the area of local culture ,very few can go toe to toe with uncle wole
Soyinka flagged addressed the matter of dictatorial recklessness.it is now a global matter. This issue is already being discussed at African departments and foreign offices. Western governments are already backing away .exactly the reason why he iis running to china.oil companies are divesting as the oil industry is been mismanaged.

@Op, it is quite obvious that you and your ilk are trying very hard to justify your pay from PEJ propaganda machine. Moving from thread to thread, opening multiple threads, sounding like a broken record.

Kongi only stated the obvious. PEJ has no constitutional role. She is a 'mere domestic appendage' just like the spouse (male or female) of every political office holder in Nigeria. Spouses should only be seen and not heard from. I doubt that you will feel this strongly if the recipient of Kongi's umbrage is a political opponent of your beloved GEJ. Quit your hypocrisy and get a real job!

What is his stature? A founding father of cultism in Nigeria abi na em monkey see monkey recognition by the western world (Nobel peace prize). Is it? You write from the comfort of your study room, what do you know about realities on ground? How many failed political parties has Wole Soyinka formed? What are his achievements beyond the foregoing?

call her ill educated, illiterate and all you wish, if you are educated enough and beyond comprehension of Patience, you would have read in the initial post that it is acknowledged that she may not have had fair opportunities in life just as elite Wole Soyinka and your kinds. This imbalance against the girl child in Nigeria is the obvious product we see today as a First Lady. Thus, chauvinism must be destroyed in our society. Be her as classy as MIchelle or not, she is your First Lady and point of correction. Michelle and Patience have met severally and had fruitful conversations on empowering the girl child and women in NIgeria. Today she has achieved well over 35% strong portfolios for women at the ministerial level, needless to mention pushes at all other levels.

Your ignorance as to why IOCs are divesting cannot be more obvious from the aforementioned. Go and research shale gas development in America, Europe and Asia. You will find out why America is divesting but the question is: are they really divesting or playing politics to downplay the powers of OPEC. We are talking about cleaner energy, energy sources from shale have high levels of harmful gases and that in itself is quagmire.

It has become highly irritable to the ears to hear people talking about being thoroughbred etc. You are brain damaged to think that being well spoken in any language what so ever equates a reflection of good moral virtues. Your actions will speak for itself. I guess the nazis of Germany were thoroughbred who considered Africa a farm land in the scheme of things. Soyinka is a chauvinist and that cannot change over night. I make bold to say that is what informed his opinion that demeaning an everyday Nigerian woman is the best judgement in a fracas that included men.

Husband had no shoes, what opportunities can a patience possibly have? Fishing while Soyinka was setting up the monster that has ravaged our society from the 50s. If you are very sincere with yourself, you will know t hasn't be long ago when most women began having equal opportunity for education. Patience is what she is, but patience cannot be tagged a non entity in Nigeria politics as Soyinka sort to do, this is where I question the judgment of Soyinka.
