Don't be quick to trust sources like the Economist on their reporting. Then again there maybe some truth to take.

The above quoted sentence is false about Lagos.
The report must have mistaken Borno for Lagos.

The above quoted sentence is false about Lagos.
Sea pirates and Islamist terrorists have never threatened Lagos, but the Niger Delta and the Boko Haram states in northern Nigeria.

Nigeria: repats, back and hungry for business

France 24 report takes you today in Lagos, Nigeria. Nigerians from around the world tend to return to the biggest and most booming city in Africa, to benefit from the town's growth, and from the opportunities it has to offer. These repats, often highly educated bigshots, have experience, having studied abroad, and may have what it takes to "lead Africa reborn".

mankevo: In rational thinking, I don't expect anyone to jubilate over this. Do we reason ''One Nation'' at all?

I am sure Lagos was THE ONLY Nigerian city among that ranked list. Which means if it is 4th worst, the other 35 cities and Abuja ARE NON-EXISTENT!!

It's not every report we should be hyping ethnic response or party differentiation. For people already ''celebrating'' this report, which position is your city? Does EIU know your city name?
I will rejoice any day I read that my beloved Enugu city is 1st worst amongst: Dubai, Shanghai, Beijin, New York, Denver, Oman....... (It will mean world recognition)
City must first meet the ranking parameters before it could be included in the fold, and here it means ONLY LAGOS is Nigerian city worthy of EIU ranking.

sorry sir but please how do you read? At bold write up; if Lagos was the only Nigerian city among the ranked list of the worst city, it means other cities are among the best cities- which part of it do you not understand? It is better for you to rejoice that your beloved city is the last city on the best ranked list than the 1st worst.

Back to the topic, This is very complicating. where did they get the information of Bokoharam attacking Lagos or where they trying to refer to Abuja?

You started the ad hominem attack and I served you back with your own dose, bruv. Even comparing Detroit a city like Detroit whose claim to fame was solely car manufacturing - to a multi-layered city that virtually almost everything in Nigeria goes through shows you deserve more curses than that. How dare you compare a city that's the gateway to West Africa and that's been the hub of the West African coast for eons - to Detroit? Slap yourself for that! undecided

Anyway, when you can find any city in the world with the same small land-mass as Lagos - with over 20 million people, shout me! undecided

I have beenfollowing your discussion ..infact you are a real wise man...with the usename imhotep shows that you are wise....dont mind those fools arguing with you..Lagos is by far better tha any other city in Nigeria...al thos onitsha n akwa ibom ..enugu...are just glorified hamlet..infact the safest .beeen to many places in Nigeria..Lagos is the New York here...

Billyonaire: Apart from VI, Ikoyi and Lekki, Ikeja, every other place in Lagos is just an unorganized mess. Its a fact, lets face it so we can make a change. Enough of these Tinubuans in Power. Lagos is the smallest state in landmass yet so largely undeveloped.

True talk..sha but Lagos is largley develop when comparing to other nigerian cities...ok..make we leave am liek that

ImHotep-X:
Yes, it might be the 4th worst city in the world, however, it's still the best and by far the only place worthy of city-status in Nigeria. The rest are glorified villages and towns and none of them made the list, including the sleepy and boring architectures having Abuja!

If you doubt my assertion, check the migration pattern in Nigeria to find out the only place where almost all Nigerians want to migrate to.

Anyway, that being said, how many cities in the world with the small land-mass as Lagos has over 20 million people inhabitants? - NONE. So Lagos isn't really doing bad, thanks to Fashola - the state just need to purge some of the "foreigners" living there and it'd be fine.

The land of my ancestors, Lagos, I'm really proud of you! cool

Signed by Imhotep, the greatest man that ever lived and the father of almost everything we call civilisation!

Never enough nonsense to read. Lagos is just a giant sprawling slum. Not a single good road except the lcc road in lekki. Every single neighbourhood is slum, from Anthony to VI, Festac to Surulere, Lekki(glorified slum) to Isolo. If you think Lagos is even manageable, then please get yourself a visa and travel. When you go back there, read this post again.

Well, a few countries on the list were represented by two or more cities - how come all the villages you listed up there ^^^^ didn't get a mention?

All those villages combined should never be mentioned in the same sentence as Lagos. People from there migrate to Lagos, not the other way round. You can overdose on haterade as much as you want, but you lot can never touch Lagos. Lagos is head and shoulders above all those villages - FACT! undecided

And hell yeah, my fore-fathers set the tone for what Lagos is today. (REAL)Lagosians have always been far ahead of everyone in Nigeria way before there was a Nigeria. We're talking about merchants who controlled the coast and monopolised trades here - savvy and ingenious people who put Lagos on the world map!

At the root of the crisis now rocking the newly registered party in Lagos is a directive issued by Tinubu to some chairmen of local government councils who travelled to the United States of America last week to greet the former governor on his hospital bed that the council bosses should go and begin work for whichever candidate Governor Fashola presents as his choice of successor.

ichidodo: Point of correction lagos was never a colony of portugal but the benin empire, it was a slave port( little why portuguese slave traders loved the area) bini warriors traded yoruba slaves to d 'portuma' in exchange for trinkets, liqour, mirrors etc after the aboltion of slavery it went into d protectorate of d British. We d last barbarians have made a giant leap and have seized the 'heart' of lagos from d British. So who now owns Lagos? The civilised slaves or the barbarians from d east?

You are either a bad student of history or u have no idea of the history of Nigeria whatsoever,Bini warriors traded Yoruba slaves,i guess its the other way around,The Bini Kingdom regards the Ooni of Ife as their spiritual father in the medieval days, which made them pay annual tributes to the Ooni with the very best of what they have including slaves,no Bini warrior in their right minds dare trade the people whom they consider their superiors for all the money in the world,if u have any doubts,go and ask the true Bini elders so they can shed more light on this thereby reducing the level of your ignorance.

To answer your question about who owns Lagos,Lagos is solely owned by the Epe,Ikorodu,Isale Eko and few Ijebu and Egba minorities, not any of you Igbos from the East, you claim Lagos is dirty yet your leaders are trying to make it an Alaigbo annex by calling it a no mans land,it shows the level of greed and covetousness of you Igbos which is absolutely shameful.

Radoillo:

Back up, bro. Did u just say Lagos was a Portuguese colony? Really?

And apparently, you equate 'civilization' with 'contact with whitish people'. That kind of thinking is so 19th century, man.

You are either a bad student of history or u have no idea what history is all about, the history of US wont be complete without the mention of the European workers and settlers, mind you the Oyo kingdom had been civilized ever before the white men set foot on Oyo soil, they were so surprised at the level of organization of the Oyo kingdom when they visited that they even left a whiteman at the court of the Alaafin of Oyo to learn from the Oyo people how they made such impressive developments, the Oyo kingdom was famed throughout the world as early as the 13th century and yes Lagos was formerly a Portuguese colony and i gave u the facts by telling u where Lagos derived its name from,if u have any contrary opinion, you are welcome to state them with good facts.
