solomon111: How is serving your country stupid?
Many countries in the world have a similar scheme where graduates serves the country for 1,2 or 3 years.
In israel,it's mandatory for fresh graduates to serve in in the israeli defence force for 2 years and there is high chance of you being killed by palestinian rockets.

Are you really advocating the NYSC scheme in Nigeria?

So you are okay with Engineers and Doctors that should be acquiring relevant knowledge in their respective fields, spending 1 year of their lives teaching in villages? Not to mention that teaching is a profession that they were never certified for.

Do you think that's how top schools across the globe just pick teachers willy nilly, to impact knowledge on students? What a joke of a scheme.

Israel is an exception because it is a country under constant threat. They even go as far as having "Iron Domes" to repel Pakistani missiles.

Lastly don't get it twisted, military training in Isreal, Uk, U.S.A, all involve the exposure to high tech machinery and scientific methods. In short, nothing to be compared to the training of "teaching in a village".

Bro, in case you missed this -

Back to the matter (open and close... wink), until I read the Act that established NYSC, I won't make a comment. Excuse me! undecided
If he remedied d situation in UK then he should work in the UK not Nigeria. In Nigeria he should have 5credits complete before serving. Why is he undermining the sovereingty of this country?

Unless the Act that established NYSC give it the powers to make provisional laws as it deems it fit, anything that is found on NYSC website that cannot be found in the original NYSC Act (or as amended) is absolute BS. It is left for the guy's lawyer to ascertain this.

well then, what you should be advocating for is that the scheme be modified to ensure that everybody serve the country in a position relevant to their profession.
As for the israelis, the iron dome is at best 70% effective,so there is still a significant chance of you being killed by rockets.

In case u did not study government in ur secondary level, sovereingty means total control over ur territory without any external influence or control. So as Nigeria rightly stated 5credits it should be 5credits and nothing less than that. No external certificate will have influence over Nigerian policy, get that into your head.

Honestly speaking, Nigeria education system needs overhauling. The so called policy makers are after money. Come to think of it, no single Nigeria university supercedes uk university standard, yet we still clamour for sub-standard 5 o'level credit. There should be room for waiver where matured students with less requirement be considered for admission.

The NYSC officials that denied this guy's mobilisation are very silly.

A guy voluntarily wants to serve his country, he's met all the requirements-the so called 5credits they claimed he didn't have have been remedied with his overseas qualification(GCSEs) so what exactly is their argument?

If the presiding judge isn't going to be biased and provided what the guy stated is true then the case should go in his favour and he should be compensated as appropriate.

Honestly, i dont know how u people think. Is Nigerian system the system the same with that of UK? Or Nigeria and UK are they using d same constitution? Is high time u people start thinking like graduates knowing that Nigeria has every right to decide what is best for her, whether good or bad we are independent people period.
