No Bank Robbery In Anambra In The Last 4 Years -- Peter Obi by Nobody: 5:28pm On Oct 16, 2013
The Governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi, said there has been no incident of bank robbery in Anambra state in the last 4 years.

Peter Obi made this statement at the APGA political rally that held in Onitsha this afternoon.

Peter Obi also lambasted Chris Ngige over his comment that there is high insecurity in the state. Chris Ngige had, during the APC rally that help few weeks ago in Onitsha, promised to end kidnapping in the state. But Peter wondered how Chris Ngige, who was kidnapped as a sitting governor, would fight kidnapping. He asked how can a governor who could not protect himself from kidnapping protect others?

Sincere 9gerian: ** No Bank Robbery in Anambra Last 10 Months -- CP

By Odogwu Emeka Odogwu,
23 September 2011

Awka — The Anambra State Commissioner for Police, Mr. Murktar Ibrahim yesterday announced that there has not been any bank robbery in the last 10 months in the state.
Just as he said that 'Obi is a wonderful Governor to work with' sequel to his style of support and believe in the Nigerian police.

Obi made this assertion at the Women Development Centre, Awka during an interactive section with the senior Police officers.

The Commissioner, who announced that about 250 of Inspectors working in the state were promoted to ASP among other promotions, said it is customary to have meeting with officers once promoted to enable them understand their level of operations.

He said that since he started working with the Governor, he had not given him illegal orders. He added that the Governor would always ask Commissioner, we would not do this or that because the court has said this or that'.

In acknowledging Mr. Obi's commitment to security, the Commissioner said that the Governor's effort had made Anambra State one of the safest states in the Country with limited cases of kidnapping. He further said that in the past ten months there had not been any incident of bank robbery in the state despite the concentration of Bank branches in the State.

The Commissioner, who asked his men not to relent in making Anambra State and Nigeria safe, commended the 250 Police Officers promoted to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP). He attributed their promotion to their gallantry, and charged them to remain vigilant at all times in the discharge of their duties.

The Commissioner acknowledged the assistance of the Governor to the Police especially in the area of communication and transport.

Responding, the Governor thanked the officers for their contributions in building a new Nigeria . He appealed to them to be awake to the new responsibilities attendant to their new rank.

Governor Obi regretted that the previous administrations preferred to work with other outfits outside the Police. He reaffirmed his readiness to continue working with the Police and other legitimate security outfits, maintaining that the danger in working with unorthodox security outfits is enormous and could totally sabotage government efforts at ensuring a secure society.

The Governor used the opportunity to thank Civil Servants who have continued to go to work. He maintained that Government would enforce the 'no work, no pay' position as prescribed by the law.

He explained that Labour has no justifiable reason to go on strike since the State Government has met the demands of Labour in respect of Minimum Wage.
Meanwhile the police in Anambra state had paraded Paul Odunze, 57, from Umudioka, in Dunukofia Local Government Area of the State for allegedly heading a gun running syndicate.

The police made seizure of 100 bags of live cartridges, 15 pump action guns and 12 double-barrel guns loaded in a Mercedes Benz lorry marked XF 283 FGG.

The men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad led OC SARS at Awkuzu, Anambra State , Felix Kigighe led the operation which lasted two days following a tip-off, leading to the interception of the lorry with the assistance of the Divisional Police Officer at Ogidi

The alleged Arms dealer who was arrested along with the driver of the lorry Nwawue Ifionu, a 53- year- old told the State Commissioner of Police, Murktar Ibrahim while they were being paraded as suspects that that he imported the arms for the vigilance groups in the state but did not mention the sponsor of the project.

The governor of the State, Mr. Peter Obi who stormed the scene at the State Police headquarters with his Deputy, Emeka Sibeudu, said his efforts in crime fighting had been yielding fruits.

He said: "The first priority of my administration is security and a breakthrough has been made as a result of the cordial relationship between this administration and the police."
Obi said, "We can not bequeath to our children anarchy, it is dangerous.

"Everybody must sacrifice in building a better society for our children."

So Anambra is maintaining a good record in this regard. I hope kidnapping is reducing too. Unfortunately, Oshiomole's state is now the headquarter of kidnapping in Nigeria.

Great. The crowd was massive. All the market leaders in Anambra have endorsed the APGA candidate. The other APGA aspirants who contested for the APGA ticket with Obiano were all present except Soludo. The students union groups also endorsed Obiano. It was great sha!

I'm terribly disappointed with the attitude of Soludo. In fact, I'm beginning to think the decision not make him the APGA candidate was right after all. It seems he has no connection with the party and may have dumped the party after election, just like Rochas.

This is commendable. But however, banks don't fold up because of those that rob them from the outside with guns but those who rob them from the inside with papers and pens (although the Hallmark Bank case is an abracadabra). Except for Aba in those days, and a few others, I think the SE and SS generally possibly have the least cases of bank robbery.

The greatest security challenge of this region is KIDNAPPING and until sustainable solution is applied the scourge will continue to cost the region a lot in investment.

The intelligent thing to do if you disagree with someone is to counter the persons statement with a superior arguement. By resorting to blackmail, insults or curses you would have removed all doubts as to how bird-headed you are.

I only narrated what I saw today. The president (or chairman) of OMATA (I am not sure of the spelling) spoke at the rally. Except they now have factions. But how can market leaders endorse an opposition candidate? There is so much propaganda out there. Anyway, in the end, it is one man one vote.

Facebook0Twitter0Google+0LinkedIn0There was pandemonium yesterday in the commercial city of Onitsha, Anambra State, as dare-devil armed robbers, operating on a motorcycle shot and killed a driver attached to a new generation bank.

The incident, which would have degenerated into a wild protest by those who witnessed the brutal killing, occurred around 4.30pm and it was the coincidental arrival of several truck-loads of policemen on patrol that saved the situation.

[size=18pt]Day robbers from hell visited Onitsha
From EMMANUEL UZOR, Onitsha
Wednesday, March 14, 2012

One of the victims

It was like a war scene. Pandemonium gripped the air as everyone ran for dear lives.

Barely 48 hours after the interment of the late Igbo leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu at his Umudim Village, Nnewi, Anambra State, daredevil armed robbers unleashed mayhem on the commercial city of Onitsha, killing two persons and gravely injuring two policemen.
As the shooting raged, people scampered for safety. After the booming of guns had subsided, two unidentified persons lay dead while two policemen attached to one of the banks along the New Market Road, Onitsha, lay on the ground, groaning in pains.

Mind you, I was not the one that made the statement. I created the thread based on what the Governor Peter Obi said. And no state or country is completely free from all sorts of criminality.

Awka — The Anambra State Commissioner for Police, Mr. Murktar Ibrahim yesterday announced that there has not been any bank robbery in the last 10 months in the state.

This article was from 2011 http://allafrica.com/stories/201109230932.html

So it seems that this was a progress report in 2010-2011

I have a question though about Murktar Ibrahim is he not in charge of the safety in Anambra he has had this position for years, why has he not been sacked with all the insecurity?

Any Governor can be kidnapped!!!

All it takes is an order from Abuja. Your Governors are only ceremonial CSOs of their states, they DO NOT control a single security apparatus. Everything is controlled from Abuja:
-SSS
-Police
-Army
-Navy
-Airforce
-NSCDC
-Immigration
-FRSC
-Etc. Etc.
