A lecturer with Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun and Dean of Science, Prof. Gabriel Agiri was shot and his wife and son abducted by unknown gun men in his country home in Eku, Delta state.
A family source said the don was on his way home from church on Sunday when dare-devil bandit accosted him, shot at him and kidnapped his wife, Juliet and son Jite. ‘The kidnappers must have thought that Professor was dead, hence they pushed him out of the car and made away with the wife and his son’, the family source disclosed.
Professor Agiri who is critically lying in an undisclosed hospital in Delta state was operated upon on Monday.
Police has since recovered the Jeep that was used by the kidnappers but whereabout of the kidnapped victims was yet unknown.
The family sources however, appeal to Nigerian Police, Delta State Command, Delta State governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan and President Goodluck Jonathan to ensure the safety of these kidnapped victims.
This is the second time the erudite scholar Professor Agiri will suffer adoption by gun men. He was earlier kidnapped in 2012. He was later released after an undisclosed ransom was paid by the family.

That is one problem with Nigerians. We don't like to migrate. He was once kidnapped, instead of relocating to a safer place ( although no place is safe in Nigeria, but some places are better than the other) he still choose to stay in thesame place. I wish him well.

wow. Perhaps,he could not afford migration or he assumed he's now kidnap-free seeing as he's been kidnapped once?

I wish him speedy recovery and pray the wife and son gets back home in one piece. He might be FORCED to relocate after this ordeal and btw,if they wanted money, why try to kill the man who would get the money?

How sad? Development cannot thrive in a violent environment.

My dear, be mindful of what you say in cases like this, cos it may land you in prison. You mustn't comment. Is people like that spoils Nairaland.

Its major concern for the family. Unfortunately the University community which he belong is not doing anything about it.
The government of Delta State left everything to the family member.
This is the fourth day since his wife and son were adopted and he was shot.
There is no news from any quarter as par whereabout of these people.

After the first incidence in 2012, he was advised to relocate to US and continue his lecturing job in one of those Universities that offered him a job. But he said he said he believe his services will be appreciated more here in Nigeria.
It is pathetic that people who are genuinely serving this nation in their respective field are made to suffer unjustly.
