Logicbwoy: First of all, when CNN criticizes islam or an islamic country, it is dubbed as "Western media", "biased islamophobic media", "Jewish controlled media"......etc. Now that it is praising islam (albeit with falsehoods) you post it here like some piece of good news to be shared......smh |

They did not invent those things because they were muslims. They invented those things because they had a thinking brain and drank from knowledge flowing down the ages. People don't invent things because they belong to some religion. People invent things because they think, or necessity forces it on them. FG 3 Likes |

Any attempt or "attempted" attempt to derail will not be tolerated Godwilling. There is no reason for anyone to start showing insecurity over the opening post. You might as well stop going to hospitals or using computers. 2 Likes |

FlamingGun: They did not invent those things because they were muslims. It was not a coincidence that whilst the rest of the world were in their ' dark ages', the muslim world was leading the world in innovation and thought. The growth of Islam led to a rapid growth of innovation from the east... The Father of capitalism, Adam Smith put it quite eloquently: The ruin of the empire of the Romans, and, along with it the subversion of all law and order, which happened a few centuries afterwards, produced the entire neglect of that study of the connecting principles of nature, to which leisure and security can alone give occasion. After the fall of those great conquerors and the civilizers of mankind, the empire of the Caliphs seems to have been the first state under which the world enjoyed that degree of tranquility which the cultivation of the sciences requires. It was under the protection of those generous and magnificent princes, that the ancient philosophy and astronomy of the Greeks were restored and established in the East; that tranquility, which their mild, just and religious government diffused over their vast empire, revived the curiosity of mankind, to inquire into the connecting principles of nature. (Adam Smith, The Essays of Adam Smith, London, 1869, p. 353) Note what he said: ...the empire of the Caliphs seems to have been the first state under which the world enjoyed that degree of tranquility which the cultivation of the sciences requires. He attributed this growth to the ' mild, just and religious government'. 6 Likes |

Pastor Kun: Whilst it is true that the Arab world as contributed considerably to the modern world, I see no sense with these contributions/inventions being credited to Islam as the inventions have nothing to do with Islam in the first instance. The right thing to do is to give the Arabs credit for their inventions, . Pastor kun, I think you have a point there. The ops should have been "Arabs invention" not "muslim's invention". When you talk about muslim, what comes to mind is Islam and its teachings. For example talk about Music as the kind being portrayed in the OPs, Islam forbids it right from the inception. So how can this be attributed to Islam vis-a-vis muslim? On the other hand, where and how will you rate the invention of Jabir ibn Hayan (Geber to the medieval europe), the father of chemistry; Ibn sinna (avecina, whose book "cannon of Medicine" was used and depends on till 18th century in europe) & Ibn Rushd (Averroes) . Geber was solely influenced by his master and teacher, Imam jafar sadiq (great grandson of prophet of Islam) while Ibn sinna was influenced by prophetic medicine and owing to the fact that Qur'an first teach Embryology 1,600years ago before being learnt by Europe just 60years ago. Pastor Kun: Whilst it is true that the Arab world as contributed considerably to the modern world, I see no sense with these contributions/inventions being credited to Islam as the inventions have nothing to do with Islam in the first instance. The right thing to do is to give the Arabs credit for their inventions, pundits trying to give the credit to Islam betrays a sense of complex and trying to score cheap points to promote an agenda. It is simple, many of these were influenced directly by the growth of Islam in the east. Ibn Abbas (RA), a companion of the prophet Muhammad set up what can be likened to an institution of learning with students travelling from far and wide to learn at his feet. The use of the miswak (toothbrush) was certainly popularised by the growth of Islam and its spread. The Islamic empires also offered the environment that promoted innovation. It amalgamated knowledge from different sources as it spread. Rather than destroy knowledge as is common with conquerors. Adam smith, the father of capitalism put it as follows: The victorious arms of the Saracens carried into Spain the learning as well as the gallantry, of the East; and along with it, the tables of Almamon, and the Arabian translations of Ptolemy and Aristotle; and thus Europe received a second time, from Babylon, the rudiments of the sciences of the heavens. The writings of Ptolemy were translated from Arabic into Latin; and the Peripatetic philosophy was studied in Averroes [Ibn Rushd] and Avicenna [Ibn Sina] with as much eagerness and as much submission to its doctrines in the West, as it had been in the East.
