We are too many in this country with too much problem
Re: A Corporate Beggar At Ikorodu Road (picture) by Nobody: 7:34am On Nov 21, 2013
It is completely unfair for us to post pictures of individual on Nairaland without verification. The danger of doing this act is that someone can easily post an enemy's picture on-line and make frivolous claim against the person. As I have always said, a video of the corporate begging would have been better than a snapshot. Also don't forget that Nairaland can be sued for this act. Thanks

ArseQPR: I have see this guy before on Ikorodu road. I use to wonder then who brings him around because he looks really blind. I also think his dressing would make him stand out from other beggars and it would make pple pity him more thereby giving him money.
i have see him too

gabriel212: A young girl met me on my way to office last month and said
Her: Good morning sir, please come and buy sweet for me no socks
Me: What do you need is it socks / sweet?
Her: socks
Me: I gave her #150
on the next day when I was going to office, the same girl approached me again
Her: Excuse me sir, come and buy socks for me
Me: Were you not the one I gave #150 yesterday?
Her: They stole it from my bag
Me: you are a liar I don't believe you
And she immediately left me. since then, I had not seen her on that route again.

Stånd: The recent trend now is young school children in uniform begging money and following people on the streets. So many of them have approached me around Ikeja. I just hope some parents are now aware that their children might be begging and following strangers...
One approached me and told me:

Boy: Aunty pls, I need money to buy my literature book. I lost the money my mum gave me.

Me: I will give you a dirty slap if you don't get off my back.

# This young boy was neatly dressed in a Private School Uniform.
And its almost December already..I pray these young children don't fall in the wrong hands...

ifyalways: Lol. Dem many for lagos with ridiculous stories like :
They are stranded.
They'll show u a doctors prescription and claim they need money for the last two drugs.
They were duped and need just bus fare to get back to Oshogbo or Ijebu.
They're going for an interview and their pocket was picked hence they need bus fare.

All na wash.
grin grin
Some of them may have genuine reasons undecided.

I remembered some years a go while I was still I the university,I was robbed of my bag around
Mile 2 bustop in Lagos. All the money with me was in the bag.

I turned to a semi-beggar that day just for me to raise a transport fare back home.
Trust Lagosians, no help was forth coming wink
I was later rescued by one gentleman.

It was not a good experience at all... sad

A girl stopped me at MKO Abiola gardens near tears. She claimed to be a house-girl and lost the N1,000 she was sent on errand with. Her madam is very stern and will beat her blablabla...
I saw she was clutching some N100 bills already and assumed a N400 should do, i gave her and moved on.

A week later, i saw her at the junction to my office with same story line, a lady had open her purse and was about to give her something when i stopped her. I threatened to call in the police if i see her a minute longer. That was when her accomplice, a young girl too, came from hiding and they scampered away in fear!

They couldn't have been more than 12-yrs old sad
And this was in 2011.

They are everywhere, one just left my gate now With d story dat her mother is in admission in d hospital. Mind u dis is not the first time she is coming to my house with similar story. I didn't give her anything today. I asked her to get d doctor's prescription before I give her anything. D thing is that I'm feeling guilty for not giving her money. She might be telling d truth.

Did this happen sometime btw 2001 and 2003 or later not too sure of the year though?
Was it at Mile 2 bus-stop btw the hrs of 8pm and after?
Was it at Mile 2 Oke...the other end where buses going to Orile pick up passengers??

I had such experience..we need to be careful ..most are scammers..but even the genuine ones , why do you want to beg all your life?
This is a failure of a system..I expect Fasola to deal with this menace not by deportation but resettlement ..beggars can still make some impact if they are willing to
my experience: a middle age man and a young woman walks into my office in VI and the man said he is a retired captain and introduce the lady as his daughter who needs to resume back at ABU Zaria but missed her flight .....that she needs to go back same day by night bus as she is due to have exam the following day. I wondered and said but ASUU is on strike..she said ABU is not part of the strike more so she is in 400level and they are exempted ...and she needs 8,500 to pay for the bus ticket...i wanted to help but decides to do a small check to verify since my cousin lives in Zaria..so i told them to return next day for the money .. they objected and the man said he lives in the next street in same VI and told me many other long stories ..
I became suspicious why they want the money at 3 45pm to catch a night bus and to write exam next day... the story looks odd to me and i told them if they cant come back next day i cant help ..so they left
when they left , I called my cousin in Zaria and he told me ABU is part of the strike !
when i got home , i related the story to my wife and my wife was very happy i didnt fall for it as same people were in her office at Surulere with same story some 2 weeks back
so please be aware of these 419 masquerading... as beggars

I met a well dressed corporate begger at Shoprite Ikeja last month & pleaded he need assistance which I gave him 200naira, while I was busy doing my shopping I saw this man's basket full of stuffs whereby I only bought few things there, I was just surprised when I saw him & couldn't imagine.
Since then I don't pity any corporate beggers as they have turn that to be their occupation
