emiye: Stop blaming the "west", africans have themselves to blame.

Leaders are more often than not a reflection of the followers. A case where tribalism, religious affiliations, and other primordial sentiments are yardstick which guides voting pattern of our leaders, and selfcenteredness is engraved in the mentality of a typical african, whether old or young, rich or poor.

Followers are too docile to care to hold leaders accountable.
and who's blaming the west?
Only said they have a Hand in Whatever Africa is currently going through, and thats a Fact dude...

That's the major reason the conflict in that country is not ending. The fight is really for control of natural resources, bringing about too many interest from the West down to African group (s).

Congo is a painful paradox.
The biggest and richest tech coys in the world like samsung apple, boeing BAE will crash if they fail to get access to congo's silicon and coltan deposits, yet congo is one of the most improverished nations in africa.
The entire military apparatus of america will collapse without congo's colbat, yet that same congo is one of the weakest nations in africa.
Imagine if congo had the leaders that would unite them and force all these tech coys leaching from them to establish manufacturing plants there.
Their industrial revolution would eclipse europe and china.
The AU has tremendous power, unfortunately they're not using it.
Our continent is the richest, and should be the most developed in the world.
The best brains in the world should be migrating to africa, the reverse is the case.

emiye: @op, DR Congo is not the largest country in Africa. it is the second largest.

the top 3 in this order are Algeria, DR congo and Sudan.

You are right about the richness of DR congo in mineral resources, but it is a misnomer that the country's poverty rate is still one of the worst in the world, no thanks to bad leadership and political instability.

I said it was the largest in sub-saharan Africa & 2nd largest in Africa. You didn't read correctly.

Why isn't Congo on this list?
www.nairaland.com/1522954/richest-countries-world-metal-minerals#19881468

Congo (DR) should be on that list. It's by far worth more than all those countries.

this is correct and once they have peace in the Congo the Western world would be brought to their knees. Also the product that makes flat screen TV is from here. Anybody that thinks white supremacy has nothing to do with the conflict in Congo is a brainwashed fool. They keep the conflict going so they can control the person controlling the mines. Divide and conquer the oldest tactic used since they discover Africa. Africans are to blame to keep falling for such nonsense and not realizing they have more to gain. When you are worried about just staying alive and finding food the masses will not rise up against those looting the resources!

Great points! Sometimes I just want to cry for Africa. Will the West ever leave us alone or at least try to treat us fairly?

Don't cry for Africa. Africans make choices to remain poor and destitute everyday by supporting tribalism, corruption and nepotism.

America with all her resources still source scientists, doctors , nurses and indeed anyone with special skill to help America stay as the top notch country in the face of the planet. Africans don't think in terms of skills, they think tribalism, nepotism and segregation. How many Nigerian doctors will be employed by say Kenya or even DR Congo even when their skill will help reduce deaths from common diseases. They will be seen as foreigners first before they are considered for the contribution they bring. But if they were Indians or Arabs those black countries will gladly embrace them as expertriates! Even in a country like Nigeria, you won't get employed in another state if you are not an indigene. Even when your skill is required in that state, they will rather suffer the affliction than give you the job. The only time a foreigner will get the job is when it is oyibo, even Indians and Pakistanis qualify as Oyibo in Nigeria. In America, black people worship their white countrymen or white immigrants from Europe. Just come and see how savagely they treat fellow black Americans or black people from other countries.

I used to weep for Africa and concern myself with useless black movements, but since I realized that the Blackman is his own greatest enemy, I have come to accept it as a curse placed on black people and they must suffer the consequences of their wicked ways.

So let DR Congo or Nigeria suffer, they deserve it. Only such painful experience can only teach Africans and indeed black people from being so barbaric to themselves and issues concerning us as a race.

Patrice Lumumba was the great Congolese leader who was accountable, progressive, and popularly elected after their independence. He was about to turn Congo into the economic powerhouse of Africa, but was overthrown and assassinated in a CIA led coup in the 1960s, and they promptly imposed an illiterate sergeant, Mobutu Sese Seko on the nation. The rest is history.

How is that about ''Africans having no one but themselves to blame''? People like you need to simply think before playing loud lapdog to western manipulators. It does appear that a generation of progressive post independence nationalist leaders were suppressed by western powers either through assassination or threats etc, which gave rise to a new generation of pro-western stooges.

Okay, but the other guy was right in a way. African countries are divided. There's NO unity. We don't even trade with one another. We prefer what the West has to offer than what our own have to offer. We have ourselves to blame as well.

Intra-African trade is increasing by the day. There are roads being built that connect all of West Africa. Even rail projects are in the pipeline. Nigerian and SA companies are setting up branches across the continent etc. These things will take time to fully develop. It was only 50 years ago African nations became free to do anything. We need to be patient.

And see the way Indians are treated like royalty in Nigeria, meanwhile in India Nigerians are being killed and persecuted. Why don't we chase them out?

This is why I respect Robert Mugabe. He's no one's puppet.

Stop playing smart by half.

Patrice Lumumba was killed by Tshombe the leader of Katanga province after he was sent there by collusion of President Kasavubu and the army chief Mobutu . Yes, the the Belgians & CIA facilitated it because he wasn't exactly liked by the west. But he died in the hands of Africans out of tribal hate and shortsightedness !

I remember during the time of Obasanjo, when Charles Taylor was being asked to be released to the International Court or so, OBJ didn't buy the idea, he never wanted to release him. He was invited to pay a visit to America by Bush, Taylor got missing, only for him to be captured at the point of crossing to another Border... Now, why was OBJ invited to America by Bush? Lol, the guy tell am many things naa.. Twist him hand. Warn am wella. Who you be? Oyaa release that Criminal before we open your nyansh.... Was i there? Nope! But thats how the game is played behind the scenes.
Talking about trades within African states: tell me, How will Cameroon do trade with Nigeria without permission from Oga at the top? How will CIV do biz with English speaking countries when the Oga will not be too happy? How will Africa do serious trade together when French speaking countries have taken over CAF? There's always some ringing the Alam Bell from the Top... And thats why i Love My Present Nigeria, we don't Worship no Britain, we stand man to man with 'em and flex muscles sometimes too, yet, they still know our weak points, Very Well.

we're all saying the same thing!
Who developed and manipulated all this hatred into Africans at first? Wasn't that how they succeeded in manipulating the North against Nigeria, telling them that Nigeria is not ripe for indipendence? Favouring the North ahead of the other parts of Nigeria which till today has made some goats think they're born to rule?

my Dear!
Americans are the Most hated people worldwide, people see them as too proud, exploitative and so forth. Some times they're treated badly too outside their countries (though not kill), yet these same people hating america and americans will be the first to play the American Lotto, hustle their a***s out just to taste the American Dream! Americans don't treat other peeps badly just cuz you dont like 'em or have ur own personal feelings and opinion towards them. They'll still welcome warmly and even protect you, give u a job etc. Even if your country don't like you anymore, they'll find a way to bring you over and protect you from your own country.
Am not defending America, cuz they got so many bad sides too, so many, my point is, They're the Master of International Deplomacy/Relations... Thats their gratest weapon ever built. Thats maturity at its peak, and Nigeria is the Most Matured Country in Africa. We may not be the best, but people just cant stop to envy us and want to be like us, even sometime, going to the exteme to pull us down. As much as we are hated, people still come down to hustle here, now shouldn't you be a nice Country and Create a Mature environment for every white, black and Red skin? Just hope u understand my pionts. These topics is not for everyone though, but am having fun though.

look at China, just as Nigeria, they are divided internally as North and South... Are they breaking apart? Why is China Growing very Fast? Is China not the Most Populous Country in the world?
How about USA? Don't they have inter squables? Is USA not One of the Largest Countries in the world both in popuation, Wealth, resources and Minerals?
Howw about Russia? Brazil? Don't these countries have internal problems to contend with? And yet all these countries are doing so great Economicaly ripping Africa off and Dry!
Believe it or not.
Take it or leave it... There's a conspiracy against Africa's Growth (Especially Nigeria; the West Fear us die, they don't want a strong Nigeria that will Boss other African Leaders, rather than them the west doing it).
Our Leaders are Corrupt, but they are corrupt for a reason... Where is our money being stolen to? Who's making profits from the Money where its kept? Whose economy is the money Pushing Forward? The West/America for sure!
My Dear, Africa won't grow an inch than it is now unless they unite to stand as one Voice, and not pets and undies to French and British/American colonialism... Size is nothing. If our leader really want to work, they'll work their A******s off, atleast, don't they travel overseas? They see how life is over there, but y aren't they bringing that Beauty and Leadership back home? CRISIS!
Crisis everywhere.... How will a country grow when there's so much crisis to tackle and nip in the bud? But where are these Crisis springing out from? Who's pressing the remote and setting Rabbit Traps for Africa?
Another Food for thought.
Its just my own opinion sha but everything has to start from somewhere. Do u know the number of revolutions and changes these countries u mentioned, especially russia and china, have had to go through before achieving economic prosperity? Even with all their wealth, they still have internal conflicts between their various ethnic nationalities. Unless congo wants to be ruled as a communist state or a dictatorship, where the centre exerts all the power over the entire country, there is no way the country will be stable under a democracy. They will ultimately go the way of Sudan.

Which is why i've always said that democracy is probably not the best government for african nations.
We need highly disciplined, patriotic group of leaders with elite brains and high-level mental visioning that would take the bulls by the horn and effect some painful measures that will correct this systemic and fundamental dysfunctionalities in our country.
Democracy is for very matured nations.
Even china that has existed for thousands of years dare not practise democracy, atleast not with over 1.5 billion people to rule over.
They would not survive it.

I took interest to study Congo after listening to Ifeanyi Uba talk about Congo in 2009.After my studies,I can unequivocally say that I came to the conclusion that Congo is the most minerally endowed country in the world.
As a matter of fact, the congo river has a hydroelectric power generating capacity 100000MW of electricity, enough to power the entire African continent.can you imagine that?
From vast arable land to petroleum and natural gas reserves, gold, cobalt(used for I.C production),copper, diamonds. Congo has it all.
How Belgium, a country of less than 10million people colonized Congo of about 60+million population beggers belief.
