AROMA, AWKA: Going Beyond Boarders as Gov. Obiano Commissions EEDC Injection Station.

His Excellency Chief Willie M.Obiano just arrived Aroma Junction for the commissioning of an injection station which was built in conjunction with Enugu Electric Distribution Company (EEDC).

This injection station will guarantee at least 18 hours power supply to Awka North, Awka South, Anambra East, Anambra West some parts of Njikoka, Dunukofia and some parts of Anaocha LGAs.

His Excellency Chief Willie M.Obiano earlier in his administration built another station at Awada which also supplies 18 hours power to Ihiala, Nnewi North, nnewi South, Idemili North, Idemili South and some parts of Aguata LGAs.

Also earlier His Excellency Chief Willie M.Obiano built transmission lines from Oji Power station across 42 communities in Anambra State. Some Communities in Oji River in Enugu State and Umunneochi LGA of Abia state also benefited from this project because the project couldn't have entered Anambra without passing through their communities.

Welcoming His Excellency, are; the Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Episeni Uche Victor Okafor, the Majority Leader of the State House of Assembly, Hon. BILLIONAIRE CITY to attract Anambra people –Okonkwo

The Commissioner for Housing in Anambra State , Mr. Mike Okonkwo, has said that the Billionaire City which the State plans for the citizens will go a long way to bring the citizens home more regularly.

Okonkwo, former Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA), under whose supervision the project was earmarked said that the visioned Billionaire City which the Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano has in mind would not only increase Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) but would also create job opportunities for Ndi Anambra.

The Commissioner in an exclusive interview with Daily Sun said that the city would give Ndi Anambra the opportunity to have a place that the affluent sector of the state would be familiar with. He said that most of the billionaires, millionaires in Nigeria from Anambra State do have very great places of residence all over the various cities of Nigeria. “So if we have a place in Awka, the capital territory, it would accord Ndi Anambra who are used to that life style to have it close to home. That is the major thing it would accord them; to have a place they call their own in their home state.

“Development, the way we have modeled it in the Awka Capital Territory in general and the Millennium City in particular, it would be a well planned place where all the revenues that are due to the state would be easy to be collected. This is because to do your development, there would be infrastructure levy, there will be a land value rate that you should have to pay, utilities to pay for, because we would be giving the state- of- the art infrastructure. All these would, if placed, bring people into Anambra and the purchasing power would increase and IGR be increased,” he said.

Explaining further, he said, the Millennium City also known as the Billionaire City is an exclusive, high-end, district within the multi-nuclei city of the Awka Capital Territory. It is an exotic enclave of mixed use development. He noted that in planning the Millennium City, the aim is to evolve practical innovative solutions – so as to prepare for the future – for long-term sustainability.

“The layout of the Millennium City features three distinct development zones: the Three-Arms Capital Zone, the Millennium City Centre, and the (Low Density) Residential Neighbourhoods. Each of the Zones has its own pattern, scale and importance within the overall City and varying mixes of uses.

“A wide range of uses including seats of government sectors, offices, educational facilities, low density and single family mansions  as well as parcels designated for resort and convention centre development are the proposed uses within the Millennium City.

Move over China, Anambra is coming (Part One)
He started trading in weave-ones and wigs in the year 2002. Like a typical Igbo businessman, he had a good credit standing with his Chinese partners. Along the line, however, port congestions and unhealthy foreign exchange regime created difficulties. Goods were taking too much time to arrive and be cleared. Debts to Chinese partners piled up. As an honest businessman, he raised money, flew to China, and cleared his debts.
Desirous of continuing in the same line of business, he advised his Chinese partners to come over to Nigeria and set up their manufacturing plant in order to continue to service the huge market in the country. Most of the location factors favoured the South West. The Chinese heeded his advice. They came and established a plant in the South West. But he operated in the South East and his market then was in the South East.
He is a strong believer in the fact that the South East market is humongous. He soon diversified into the production of cosmetics, while continuing in the marketing of weave-ons and wigs. Today, in addition to maintaining the earlier distribution of products manufactured by his Chinese partners, he has embarked on the production and marketing of hair and hair care products. He employs over 300 personnel directly. He has his sight at employing even more than 2,000 in the next few years, and manufacturing for the local and international markets.

Sunny Peace Industries Limited started its manufacturing operations in a two storey building at the Federal Housing Estate, Onitsha. The market acceptances of their range of products and increasing customer demands have made the Onitsha factory crowded and too small. As an astute businessman, he soon acquired a couple of plots at Oba, Anambra State.
Although the now almost ready complex at Oba is a giant leap, it is still a far cry from Sunday Ogbu’s expectations. But plans and expectations require some critical resources to bring them to fruition. One of such critical resources is land, and this is in very short supply.
Enter the Anambra State Government through its business promotion agency, the Anambra State Investment Promotion and Protection Agency, ANSSIPA. The Anambra State Government, through ANSSIPPA, has earmarked the area previously set aside for the Oba Airport as one of the areas for industrial parks in Anambra State. Sunny Peace is getting about 1.5 hectares of land from Anambra State Government to meet his expansion needs.
In the words of the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ANSIPPA, Mr Jide Ikeako, “while we are working hard to attract large scale investors from Nigeria and across the world, we find that we can also encourage and support investors like Sunny Peace Industries Limited. For instance, they are employing over 300 persons today. With our support, in a few years they will be employing over 2,000 persons. You can begin to imagine the impact on the economy of Anambra State and Nigeria, as we populate our industrial parks with as many industries the size of Sunny Peace Industries and bigger.”

Awka Millennium City Is Coming As Anambra State Government Signs MOU With M-P Infrastructure For Development Of The Estate

Anambra State Government today, Tuesday, 19th June, 2019 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with M-P Infrastructure Ltd for the development of a brand new eco-friendly city, Awka Millennium City.

The project is the development of a 100 -acre estate (to be known as Awka Millennium City), to be located at Three -Arms Zone, Awka. The $46.5M project will be completed within 30 months beginning with the first phase involving 25 acres which will be ready in 18 months.

The Group MD/CEO of M-P Infrastructure Ltd, Dr. Clem Nwogbo signed on behalf of the company and said that Governor Willie Obiano’s ‘Aku Luo Uno’ call made him to bring his investments home coupled with the stable and secure environment in the state. He thanked Mr Jide Ikeakor, Managing Director of Anambra State Investment Promotion and Protection Agency (ANSIPPA) and his team for working hard to ensure that the deal happened.

Governor Willie Obiano signed on behalf of the state government and charged the company to pursue the project with the same vigour they applied in their Lynden Integrated Farms project, at Igbariam.

We Will Deliver On Awka Millennium City Project... Dr. Clem Nwogbo

Dr. Clem Nwogbo, Group Chairman of M-P Infrastructure speaks to Uche Nworah, MD/CEO of Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) on the reason his company, M-P Infrastructure is partnering Anambra State Government in building Awka Millennium City.

(1) What Informed your decision to come home to Anambra State to invest?

For us at M-P Infrastructure, Investing in Anambra was a question of when to go in, not why we should go in. We were never in doubt of the huge economic potentials that abound in Anambra State. We have been following the activities of Governor Willie Obiano since inception and the progress the state has made using several indices. We attended the Governor’s Lagos and Abuja outreach events with Anambra diaspora where he preached the ‘Aku Luo Uno’ Message and were completely sold on his ideas. As an investor, you look out for a location where the operating environment is stable and not hostile, you also consider the ease of doing business in such location, how easy it is to enter, of course the buying power of the people and good returns on investments. We found all these in Anambra. Perhaps one of Governor Willie Obiano’s enduring legacies in the state is the setting up of Anambra State Investment Promotion and Protection Agency (ANSIPPA), the one-stop investment office for everything investment in Anambra State. They have helped in making us to register our footprint easily in Anambra State.

We first started with our agricultural project at Igbariam which began operations in 2016. Lynden Integrated Farms is a modern integrated poultry farm project located at Igbariam in Anambra East Local Government Area of the state. That investment is going quite well. It is probably one of the biggest mechanised poultry projects not only in the South East but in Nigeria.

I am from Awka and have always believed that our people can live, work and play better. Unfortunately, our research showed that it is not possible to create the kind of living and lifestyle that we see in places like Lagos and Abuja from the kind of old city planning that was done in Awka. That really led our thinking towards creating a brand new city within Awka. The project which we call Awka Millennium City is also in line with the ambition of the state government under Governor Willie Obiano to bridge the housing deficit in the state.

(2) About Awka Millennium City

The Awka Millennium City is an ambitious yet iconic, master-planned gated- community Public -Private partnership (PPP) project which will be a large-scale residential neighborhood with residential, commercial and recreational uses and amenities, such as schools, leisure and entertainment centers, parks and playgrounds.

The city will be located within the 3-Arms Zone which will also house the new offices and residencies of members of the executive, judiciary and legislative arms of government.
Many dub this zone the new Awka. It will come with 24 hours CCTV Surveillance and access control, underground cables, water treatment, sidewalks for jogging and sporting activities etc.

You can liken Awka Millennium City to the best estates in Lagos and Abuja and it will be completed in 30 months. However, Phase 1 involving 25 hectares out of the total 100 hectares will be ready within 18 months. The investment value of the project is $46.5 Million with the state government donating the land as equity. Profit sharing ratio is 73% for M-P Infrastructure and 24% for Anambra State Government. 3% has been reserved to fund community social responsibility projects.

The project has been structured in such a way that companies and individuals within the value chain will all derive value. We are projecting the creation of at least 400 direct and indirect jobs. We will be using some local suppliers also. For example, we have concluded discussions with Anambra State Hydrafoam Company for a N120M contract to fence the whole project site. Think about the trickle down effect of this on the local Anambra economy.

(3) Who can subscribe to own a home in Awka Millennium City?

Unlike what some are insinuating, we are not building a billionaire city. His Excellency, Governor Willie Obiano was emphatic about this. This is why in the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), we are committing to dedicating 25% of the 100 hectares to built-up housing stock for anyone interested to subscribe. This means that M-P Infrastructure will actually build these houses and then offer them for sale to Ndi Anambra and other interested subscribers. The houses will include 5-bedroom, 4-bedroom, terrace and detached homes.

The remaining 75% of the 100 hectares fall under what we call site and services offering where interested subscribers purchase plots of land and build according to approved prototypes.

We will deliver on this project and in record time too. We gave His Excellency and Ndi Anambra that assurance at the MOU signing which held at the Anambra State Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia on Tuesday, June 18,2019. We have strong footprints in the state and in other states in telecommunications, agriculture and road construction. We bring our professional, financial capacity and competence in all we do. We are stakeholders in the Anambra and Nigeria projects and believe in the long term development of our state. Ndi Anambra should look at what we did at our Lynden Farms project at Igbariam to understand what our Group is all about. We mean business. I want to use this opportunity once again to reassure Ndi Anambra and other stakeholders of our commitment to delivering on this all important project.

Reps Halt Oil Exploration In Ogwu Ikpele, Anambra State 

The House of Representatives has expressed worry over the effects of illegal oil exploration by Sterling Global Oil Exploration and Energy Company in Ogwu Ikpele in Ogbaru, Anambra State.
To this end, it called on the company to stop further operations pending its visit to the communities and sites.
The call follows the adoption of a motion on the urgent need for intervention in the illegal oil exploration, environmental pollution, epidemic outbreak and communal clash as a result of operation of SGOC, moved by Hon. Chukwuma Onyema, yesterday.
In his lead debate, Onyema noted that Ogwu Okpele which boasts of huge deposits of crude oil shares boundary with Omoku, Okpai and Uchi in Rivers State.
He informed that the Sterling Global Oil Exploration and Energy Company is operating in the area without due process and recourse to the people of the community.
“Aware that unknown to the people of Ogwu Ikpele, Sterling Global Oil Exploration and Energy Company is operating in their lands without environmental impact assessment, baseline survey, socio-economic impact assessment and corporate social responsible;
“Informed that the oil company has no site liasion office in Ogwu Ikpele or in any other place known to the people, and its representatives schedule meeting to meetings with the community only in hotels”.
The deputy minority leader worried that “the activities of the oil company are causing environmental, air and water pollution in the area, thereby resulting in outbreak of respiratory tract infections, cholera, water borne diseases, coastal erosion and destruction of the ecosystem”.
He further worried that the management of the company is instigating communal clashes capable of leading to loss of lives and destruction of property in the community and its environs.
In adopting the motion, the House mandated its committees on Petroleum Resources (Downstroke) and Environment and Habitat to visit the community and the exploration sites with a view to ascertaining their legality and operational agreement in compliance with extent laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and report back within three weeks.
