Air Peace Is Driven By Sheer Patriotism, Says Obiano As Airline Starts Intercontinental Flights On Wednesday, July 3

Nigeria’s biggest air carrier, Air Peace, has emerged the most patriotic airline in Nigeria’s history, according to Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State.

In a goodwill message to the carrier which will start intercontinental operations on Wednesday, July 3, with a direct flight to Dubai and Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates, Governor Obiano in a statement released today in Awka, the Anambra State capital, said: “The patriotic streak is reflected in all it has been doing from inception in 2014 including charging less than N200,000 for an economy seat and a mere N650,000 for the business class to fly for almost eight hours to the United Arab Emirates.

“Yet”, noted the statement signed on behalf of the Anambra State government by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr C. Don Adinuba, “this is no budget airline, as it will provide all international passengers with all the frills and entertainment available on the best global airlines.

“The highly competitive fares couldn’t have come at a better time considering that we are in summer, which is a high season, when air carriers even double their fares because of the high passenger volume”.

Noting that Air Peace has acquired brand new Boeing 777 planes for the long hauls, the only Nigerian carrier to acquire this state of the art equipment, Obiano, a former top banking executive and accomplished accountant, observed that “it shows that the airline is competing with the greatest carriers in the world on both quality and price, the best business strategy anywhere”.

The governor praised the carrier for deploying three planes on international routes, contrasting it with the earlier practice where indigenous airlines used only one plane for intercontinental operations.

“The preceding indigenous carriers could not compete effectively with their international rivals because anytime their lone long-haul machine ran into a problem, their passengers would be stranded”, Chief Obiano pointed out.

He also commended Air Peace for being the first airline to commence international operations from Sam Mbakwe Cargo International Cargo Airport in Owerrri, Imo State, in addition to operating flights from Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, Kano International Airport and Port Harcourt International Airport as well as Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu.

Argued the governor: “No foreign airline has this record of service to the Nigerian people, nor has any indigenous carrier”.

Obiano continued: “What many Nigerians may not know is that commercial interest or profit making was not one of the factors which led Barrister Allen Onyema, a worthy indigene of Anambra State, to register Air Peace in 2013, but sheer patriotism.

“He was alarmed at the army of unemployed youths in the country and the lack of employment prospects for thousands of Nigerian graduates churned out of high schools, colleges of education, polytechnics, monotechnics and universities annually, plus those who graduate from foreign institutions.

“He was also appalled at the treatment Nigerians were receiving at the hands of foreign airlines, including charging them exorbitantly for inadequate services.

“It is a thing of pride that Air Peace now has over 3,000 Nigerians on its staff and about 8,000 others employed indirectly by it, even though it started operations only five years ago”.

Air Peace operates about 100 flights daily with 27 aircraft. It made history last September 14 when it signed an agreement with Boeing in the Lagos residence of the Unites States consul general to purchase 10 brand new planes from the world’s largest plane manufacturer.

It will later in the year start to fly to the United Kingdom, United States, India, China and South Africa.

Signed

C. Don Adinuba,

Commissioner for Information & Public Enlightenment.

A visit to Coscharis Rice Mill, Igbariam -
with James Eze and Joe Nwabrije

Behold the modern, impressive and fully automated Coscharis Rice Mill, Igbariam.

With a daily milling capacity of 60 tonnes and a yearly capacity of about 40,000 tonnes, the rice mill co-owned by the Anambra State Government and Chief Cosmas Maduka, an Nnewi-born billionaire businessman and owner of Cosharis Motors, was started in 2017. It has now commenced operation.

The construction of this rice mill was aided by the enabling environment created by Gov Willie Obiano whose passion for agriculture, investment in security and the Akulue-uno drive ensured that this great milestone was achieved.

STILL ON 2018===== FG leases National Grains Reserve to Coscharis
.
The federal government has leased the National Grains Reserve at Igbariam to Coscharis Rice farm, Anaku, Ayamelum local government area, Anambra state for the next ten years.
Governor Willie Obiano and the management paid an inspection visit to the facility on Thursday March 08, 2018.
.
As a result of the lease agreement, work has commenced on the facility to bring it to full functioning capacity to enable the investor use it for storage activities.
The silos at the reserve, which has the capacity to store 25,000 metric tons of grains, will be used to store paddy produced by the farm from where it will be fed to a one hundred and fifty metric tons daily capacity Mill being constructed by Coscharis.
.
The Investor, Chief Cosmos Maduka, said the idea behind the lease agreement is to produce fresh grains, fit for human consumption and capable of competing favourably with those produced in developed countries, adding that when the mill and silos fully come on stream, there will be prospects for electricity generation through the milling turbines as well as wealth creation.
Meanwhile, preparation of a two-point-eight hectare rice farm is in top gear at Coscharis Rice Farm, Anaku in Ayamelum Council Area ahead of this year's planting season.
.
During the visit, Governor Obiano was conducted round the farm by the authorities where it was observed that land preparation was ongoing alongside manure application.
Steep canals were being dug round the farm to serve irrigation purposes and to keep the plants safe in the case of cow invasion while testing of seedlings was also being done.
Speaking after he was conducted round the facility, Governor Obiano said that with the arrangement, the farm now has a wholesome plan that will guarantee great improvement in the value chain, starting from planting up to processing and storage.
He acknowledged that with what his administration has done towards supporting other rice farmers, especially through the FADAMA initiative, the vision of the state to do 600,000 metric tons of rice annually, is now becoming more realistic.
.
Governor Obiano in his remarks, observed that the farm has exhausted the two-point-eight hectares provided for them and said government will consider giving them additional land to enable them expand the project.
He noted that the irrigation initiative which the farm has introduced will complement his administration's efforts at supporting dry season farming in the State and ultimately achieving six hundred thousand metric tons of rice annually.
The Governor commended the Anaku community for their cooperation towards the success of the project, adding that the farm has the capacity to create means of livelihood for members of the community.
.
The Investor, Chief Cosmos Maduka, revealed that they are constructing a Mill at Igbariam, which will be completed by end of June and thanked Governor Obiano for his genuine commitment and support that made their vision to materialize.
The General Manager of the farm, Mr. Bharat Dhir, said they are committed to producing the best quality rice for the state and setting a model for rice production for other states of the country.

Very impressive! The most important thing in all this is the youth that have got employment and a means of livelihood through this massive investment in the state!

Anyone know what investments other high networth Anambrans have in the state? I mean accomplished individuals like Prince Arthur Eze, Orjiakor, Okwuosa, Erisco, etc. It's all about engaging Anambra youth, so they don't think of leaving the state to look for jobs outside!

Going by Obi's antecedents I won't expect much

If not for Peter obi Anambra state will not have achieved these much, We all saw the financial record of Peter obi no Government has ever achieved that not to even speak of the infrastructure that was being constructed by him and every sector was revived. Education was at it peak even student have a say in Government and all dept to workers and petitioners were cleared.

When people speak ill of Peter i just know it's base on personal hate if you don't know most projects completed by Obiano was stated by Peter and there was o much he would have if he was still in power, Peter said Willie Obiano failed him by not doing most of the projects they discussed about before becoming the governor but i guess now he's ready to work and honestly saw Anambra state has so much potentials and with the right leader we shall get there.

Anambra Gets $2.5bn 1500mw Power Plant under Power Africa Initiative

Nigeria’s formal agreement to work with the government of the United States (US) to increase access to and availability of electricity in Nigeria through the US-backed Power Africa initiative will bequeath to Anambra State, a brand new 1500 megawatts (MW) thermal power plant.

The new thermal power project, to be built at the cost of $2.5 billion by international power firm, Global Edison Corporation, which is to be sited in Anambra State will expectedly take gas for its fuel from the gas rich eastern supply axis.

Senior Vice President for Africa of Global Edison Corporation, Peter Nwangwu disclosed at a recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the federal government in Abuja power to be generated from the plant when completed will however be transmitted into Nigeria’s national grid, .

The project which is coming on the framework of the US government backed Power Africa initiative that was launched last year in Cape Town, South Africa by US President, Barack Obama, will however be fully funded by Global Edison Corporation even though the company is part of beneficiaries of the initiative.

It was activated alongside with Nigeria’s formal signing of a MoU with the US to formally activate the Power Africa initiative which hopes to double the number of people with access to power in Sub-Saharan Africa, starting with six countries including Nigeria.

The MoU, which was signed by the Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo on behalf of the federal government and US Ambassador to Nigeria, James Entwistle for the US government in Abuja now proffers a framework to coordinate the implementation and support of institutional reforms, privatisation and regulation of Nigeria’s power sector within the Power Africa initiative.

Through Power Africa, African governments, private sector and other development partners such as the World Bank and African Development Bank (AfDB) are expected to improve their power generation by 10,000 megawatts (MW), by unlocking the substantial wind, solar, hydropower, natural gas, and geothermal resources in the region.

The initiative was primed to further enhance energy security, decrease poverty and advance economic growth by building up clean, efficient electricity generation capacity as well as expanding mini-grid and off-grid solutions.

While speaking on the MoU that was signed by his company and the ministry of power, Nwangwu stated that in addition to the 1500Mw gas power plant, the company will also build a 70MW solar panel manufacturing plant in the country.

He said that: “There are two MoUs that were signed today with Global Edison, the first one is the one that we are building a 1500MW gas fuelled power station in Anambra.

The second MoU is that which we are building a 70MW solar panel manufacturing plant in Nigeria and this will be the largest in West Africa.”

“The significance of this is that we will be able to now power our rural areas and villages with reliable solar panels that will last for 30 to 50 years; imported panels have given solar energy bad names across the world but when properly designed and installed, they can be almost maintenance frees for 20 to 30 years and that is what we intend to achieve here,” Nwangwu
