Very much so and a search for his history on the other side over the mainstream media's depiction of an almost picture-perfect saint is deceptive. Mandela capitulated to the apartheid government in an unbecoming manner and woefully failed at ensuring economic emancipation for his people. His hometown is amongst the least developed in SA: he also could have better used his influence to set ANC on the right path to fulfilling the Freedom Charter. At least, the good thing is he wasn't corrupt, showed discipline in relinquishing power after a term and to some extent was peaceful: though it is very clear MLK and Gandhi are far better icons of such.
