Iyabo Obasanjo’s prolonged silence confuses father’s aides and family members

Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello, the first daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo has curiously kept mute over a letter she purportedly wrote her father, several hours after it was leaked to the media.

In the 11-page letter which was exclusively published by Vanguard newspapers, Ms. Obasanjo-Bello, a former senator reportedly made scathing remarks about her father’s official and private life. She described her father as a liar, abuser and hypocrite.

Repeated efforts by PREMIUM TIMES to speak with her on Wednesday to confirm if she actually wrote the controversial letter were unsuccessful.

This newspaper repeatedly called Ms. Obasanjo-Bello’s mobile telephone, sent her multiple e-mails, text messages and left voicemails on her telephone, but she did not respond to any of them.

Her continued silence has however cast a shadow of doubt about the claim by her family and some of the former president’s spokespersons that she did not write the letter.

This newspaper first sent her emails at 10.32 a.m. Nigerian time. We later obtained her U.S. telephone contact and called her multiple times beginning at 2.55 p.m. Nigerian time. She did not answer or return the calls.

We later send her a text message and left multiple voicemails for her. We got no response.

A member of the family who pleaded anonymity for fear of being harassed by security agencies had told this newspaper in a telephone interview on Wednesday morning that Ms. Obasanjo-Bello did not write the letter.

The family member, who claimed to have discussed the matter with Mr. Obasanjo, said the letter must have been forged because the former president spoke with his daughter two days ago.

Two other spokespersons of the former president, Tunde Oladunjoye and Femi Fani-Kayode also denied that the former senator wrote the letter.

“I can tell you that such letter never existed. I can tell you authoritatively it only existed in the imagination of those who forged and published it. It is the height of desperation of those who masterminded it,” Mr. Oladunjoye, a former deputy governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ogun State, told PREMIUM TIMES.

He also insisted Mr. Obasanjo did not receive such a letter from his daughter

You're really taking this matter serious because you know well your paymasters wrote the darn letter. Their plot to cause problem in Obasanjo's family didn't work out. They should try another tactics. Cowards!

You are a jobless man! A sycophant without any moral compass!

What is your special interest in the affairs of Obasanjo's family? You have opened 3 threads today on this issue alone, all of them have been subjective and just a copy and paste from newspapers.

Until Iyabo comes out and categorically confirms that she indeed wrote the letter, don't you think it is expedient that you shut up and watch how events unfold? I have always told you that contrary to your username, you are an insincere person who has no justification to comment or pontificate on issues that pertain to morality or uprightness.

You consistently equivocate without any shame; you are an attention seeking man whose only achievement in life is to lick a.sss, it is understandable that this is the only way you can earn a living and feed your family but your predilection for dishonesty and shameful behavior of extreme sycophancy is not only disturbing but it shows that you are probably worse than how Obasanjo was described in that letter.

Until the woman comes on LIVE TV and denies this letter in her own words. Vanguard's story stands. No family member or aide can speak for her.

The vituperations of a frustrated, silly and bootlicking e-goat. Is Sincere9gerian synonymous with Premium Times? The honourable thing to do when you come across threads whose contents are unpalatable is to ignore such threads rather than letting your frustrations get the better of you. Sincere 9gerian, those you work for know who wrote the letter. I believe the approached the Vanguard to publish it even though they the legal implication - libel that could gulp billions of naira. This doesn't the government because the money is there to pay when the Vanguard is indicted for libel.

It does not take eternity to come out and say " I, Iyabo Obasanjo, did not write nor circulate any letter" It does not lie in the mouth of anyone to deny the authorship when Iyabo is alive and fit to do so. So, in my opinion, Iyabo wrote the letter.

Iyabo has several reasons to be angry with her FATHER, some may be genuine, others spurious. She also benefitted immensely from same father. She was appointed a commissioner and then "elected" a Senator as a direct influence of her Father. So, good or bad, the issues really are between Iyabo and her father. What can Nigerians do about it? Little or next to nothing.

Whether Iyabo wrote the letter or not, how does that change the fact that GEJ has not responded to any of the issues raised by Obansanjo?

What ever happens in the Obansanjo family is non of our business.

I agree with you. OBJ is not standing for any election.

However, OBJ's letter to Mr. Goodluck Corrupt Jonathan is alarmingly apprehensive and needs urgent, comprehensive and factually verifiable rebuttal otherwise we may have a president whose sole mission is to destroy the country he's elected to preserve.

Why is Jonathan promoting corruption?
Why is he unable to tame oil theft?
Why is he supporting citizens that openly and noisily threaten the corporate existence of Nigeria?
Why is he associating himself with criminals and ex-convicts?
Why is he placing Nigerians on political watch list?
Why is he training snipers, for what purpose?
Why is he promoting undemocratic practices?

Every right thinking Nigerians should be disturbed by all these questions, not whether OBJ did well or otherwise for a daughter who would have amounted to nothing save the influence of same OBJ.

You are an unrepentant lackey with no self respect. Does Insincere9gerian not have a day job that all he does is post on Nairaland everyday- opening threads every hour to show his paymasters that he is working hard? You should be ashamed of yourself and everything you stand for. You claim to be a doctor but your posts clearly suggest the opposite; you are repetitious, illogical and dumbfoudingly crass.

Is Sincere9gerian synonymous with Premium Times? The honourable thing to do when you come across threads whose contents are unpalatable is to ignore such threads rather than letting your frustrations get the better of you. And must you comment on every thread? Clearly, you need urgent.help.

Unlike you, I will wait for the facts before going on charade of self embarrassment and quoting any news report that is speculative. Please have a look at yourself before referring to anyone as frustrated- you are sinking deep and drowning! Your sycophancy and total disregard for honesty has eaten so deep that you have become obstinately deranged. You should be ashamed of yourself and should quit whining like a 2 year old on NL

APC e-rats are hoping and praying that the Iyabo Obj letter is false. Unfortunately for them, the unfolding events seems to point otherwise. At this point, one can only pity them

Let Iyabo speak for herself. She is an adult and she understands her father more than us. She is also a politician and knows the balance between family ties and being honest to the truth. Her father and those generals OBJ mentioned in his letter are the wrong foundations we continue to have. OBJ does not deserve better reply to his letter than Iyabo’s. There is nothing in the letter that OBJ did not do more during his long years as military and civilian president of this country. OBJ IS NOT THE OWNER OF NIGERIA and can not set standard or laws for us.
If i were GEJ i will simply ignore the fvcking letter
