PapaBrowne:
While you are thinking about the Yoruba race many Yorubas are thinking about the Christian race. Bus loads of Ibos troop to Redemption camp and Deeper life and TB Joshua and MFM not minding that the leaders are Yoruba. Bus loads of Yoruba troop to Christ Embassy, TREM and Chosen. They don't care about tribe. Their faith comes first. The article below would see them voting against any Muslim Muslim ticket.

Its extremely naive to think any Yoruba would abandon his cultural inclination to think of a religious one.

So you think they would ignore a ticket that has Fashola and follow a ticket that has Jonathan?

Put Orisejafor and Jonathan on a ticket to face Fashola and Aregbesola in an election among Yorubas in redemption Camp, MFM and Winners chapel alone and see who would win.

grin grin grin grin

They are still not getting the consequences of what Obi did during the deportation saga...and how they demonized APC calling it Amala and Ewedu party...for short term gain in Anambra forgetting the bigger picture.

What this thread reveals is the hypocrisy of some people. They lambast Igbos for voting APGA in the recent Anambra elections and yet their arguments all day long on this thread is how "all Yorubas" will "vote" for the presidential ticket with a "Yoruba" man.

We have heard.

Yes...because that election opened our eyes....no more pretense about political sophistication. We are dealing with people that uses ethnicity and religion as main campaign tool.

As usual, APC fellows are trying to win Northern votes on NL like they did during Anambra election. cheesy cheesy
They never learn. grin grin

I have lived in the North and have friends from KD, Jos, Bauchi, Gombe, Taraba, Adamawa, Benue who are Christians and will vote for any, I repeat, ANY CHRISTIAN. It's not even about GEJ.
I remember a Northern friend blaming the South for the continuous reign of Core Northern leaders.

By the way, the Northern Hausa/Fulani/Muslim will almost never vote for an "infidel" in spite of his competence.

And the "power must return to the North" brigade that have been singing that song since the end of OBJ's first term are not using "ethnicity and religion as main campaign tool"?

To address the topic of this thread. The issue of the core North versus the Middle-Belt cannot be simplistically subsumed under the rubric of "Christian Northerners". That betrays a failure to understand the nuances of the relationship between these 2 regions, a failure to take into consideration history that predates 1914. Just as it is in Yorubaland, and among the Igala and to some extent the Nupe, a lot of the Middle-Belt ethnicities have within their families adherents of Islam, Christianity and Traditional religions. And for them, religion is not in the forefront in terms of ethnic identity.

It is only the political leaders of the Hausa people who have used religion as a means of social mobilization; who regard all other Nigerians (and this includes Muslims of other Nigerian ethnicities) as infidels and inferior. Why else do you think it is only in the North that we have witnessed targeted religious riots that have killed other Nigerian ethnicities? This is largely because for the Hausa, unlike most other Nigerian ethnic groups, religion became a substitute for ethnic identity. The Fulani overlords following Dan Fodio's conquest successfully stamped out independent Hausa culture and history, replacing it with religion as a way of preventing their overthrow.

Whether the Middle-Belt votes for GEJ in 2015 or not will depend on the configuration of the main opposition ticket. In any case, as they say "a week is a long time in politics" and any prognostications at this point may well be off the mark. Perhaps GEJ might even be the APC candidate. . .after all, PDP has just completed the takeover of APC.

solomon111: You're still depending on nairaland to make your political inference instead of personally going there and feel the pulse of the masses.
Is it not the same kwara where PDP defeated APC in an election recently?
You must be a hard-headed illiterate.

Why are you complaining? It's her time, she's free to spend it whatever way she thinks fit. Besides, some of these opinions here are quite entertaining so this thread does serve a purpose. And If this is meant to be relevant research, anyone would know the credibility it merits once they learn the source is Nairaland.

Afam4eva: I never knew there's someone with the name "Christian Northerners". Not every Christian from the North will vote for Jonathan as they have their personal orientation which will inform their choice of candidate. But it will be wishful thinking that just because someone is from the North, does not automatically mean that the person will vote for a Northern candidate presented by APC or any party for that matter and it rings more true for Northern Christians who due to the alleged marginalizing by the majority Muslim North, will mostly likely not follow the Muslim North in a sheetlike manner.
correct analysis. i am xtian from d north

PapaBrowne:

Dayo, you are a Yoruba xtian based in Texas or thereabouts. The Yoruba tongue speaking xtian who goes to redemption camp or Shiloh or MFm for convention every year has an entirely different outlook. He views the killing of Christians(be they igbo, birom, ijaw, yoruba) by Boko Haram the same way he viewed sanusi's actions on the banking industry: a grand design to Islamise Nigeria. Presenting a Muslim Muslim ticket will raise their hairs and would rush them out with protest votes for PDP.

You surely are having a laugh.
