Should He Quit His Job?

Someone I know is seriously born again and after staying 3 years at home post NYSC with a degree in mechanical engineering, he later got a job with Nigerian breweries (makers of maltina, star etc). He even gave testimony on how he scored the highly coveted job and explained to fellow praying  believers that he will not be working in the alcohol department and that he'll be into something else besides making the beer or tasting it in any way.

Is it proper for a born again Christian who is against drinking alcohol to work for a company making the alcohol?  Should he quit that job and believe God for another job? Should Christians work for other companies that make alcohol, condoms, cigarettes even if they don't use those things?

its a matter of principle,

Should we apply principle to christianity or should we walk according to the teachings of Jesus? Principle entails taking options that best suits you.

According to The Word

Does Alcohol make one a Sinner? NO

the abuse does.

Does smoke make one a sinner? NO

the abuse does.

For goodness sakes. there is nicotine in Coke/ coffee e.t.c

the abuse of these is equal to that of Alchohol.

I dont think any genuine christian should work in or buy shares in tobacco/alchohol producing companies.

Why use your God-given talets, intellect et.al to contribute to another person's bad health, even though you are well paid and it's the other person's free choice?

Even from a merely moral stand point. it doesnt seem right.

1 John 3

18 Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth. 19 This then is how we know that we belong to the truth, and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence
20 whenever our hearts condemn us. For God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything.
21 Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God
22 and receive from him anything we ask, because we obey his commands and do what pleases him.
23 And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us.
24 Those who obey his commands live in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us.

1 Cor 8
9 Be careful, however, that the exercise of your freedom does not become a stumbling block to the weak.
10 For if anyone with a weak conscience sees you who have this knowledge eating in an idol's temple, won't he be emboldened to eat what has been sacrificed to idols?
11 So this weak brother, for whom Christ died, is destroyed by your knowledge.
12 When you sin against your brothers in this way and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ.
13 Therefore, if what I eat causes my brother to fall into sin, I will never eat meat again, so that I will not cause him to fall.

Re: Can A Christian Work At A Brewery? by KunleOshob(m): 2:10pm On Aug 19, 2008
As a born again christian, you are 100% allowed to take alcohol (even Jesus Christ used to take alcohol) you are just advised not to drink in excess. Any hypocrite that tells you otherwise (be it pastor) is a liar and the word of God is not in him. If your friend as something personal against drinking, that is another matter but christian beliefs and doctrine condones the drinking of alcohol in moderation. He had better stick to his Job and not let any hypocrite who would not assist him when in need lead him into doing something he would later regret.

Believe God for another Job while he rots in poverty.

I once had a aunt who quit her high level position at guiness because she also felt this same way. She couldn't afford her diabetes medication and died. angry angry

I feel angry, with people with this kind of mentality. (such as that of the post above)

So are soda companies too, Coca cola, Pepsi, McDonalds, Pizzahut, Dangote Salt,Dangote Sugar and drug companies that mainly produce antihistamines and antidepressants.

Should a christian also work in a bank that charges ridiculous interests when the bible is against it? Banks also repossess peoples collateral when they fail to pay and that can be harmful to their health too. What else you got?

i brodaa, CONGRATULAshun, dont be misguided. its simply a matter of undastandin. i'd buy into what dat pally said about PRINCIPLE. its actually ur own undastanding of the Holy Bible and sect. some sect believe in alcohol, some condemn it totally, some encourage it but are against abuse of alcohol.

just as some religion and christain sect condemn interest rates, abortion, euthanasia, etc. i'll advise u to dwell on ur own undastandin and direction from God (if u kno Him).

if i be u sha, i no go even dey blog now because i go don resume duty and not scratch dry wounds.

Of course, a born againChristian can work in a brewery. . . . . .Whatz his business with what an idiot does to himself through abuse??
Moderation is the key in any sphere of life. . . . .Taking alcohol is not a SIN but when u take too much of it, u are asking for trouble.
It's like saying a Christian cannot work in a pharamaceutical company because a plonker somewhere is going to abuse drugs and kill himself?
A Christian cannot work in MacDonalds or Burger King cos a glutton would eat himself to obesity and die of heart attack.
Deepzone, at this point. . . . . .I think u are a flaming Philistine. grin  grin cheesy
Re: Can A Christian Work At A Brewery? by NosaHenry(m): 7:15pm On Aug 19, 2008
Why should we be bringing issues that are not related together. Jesus Christ never said we should not produce wine or work in places where drinks are brewed. He only admonished us not to engaged in excesses. If Jesus did not like wine he wouldn't have turned water into it.
Many people who work in Breweries and keep their faith genuinely will enter heaven quicker than those who are mere critics without genuine faith. Please let the young man be and don't be the judge of his conducts.

Well A brewery in the real sense of the word does not only limit it to the production of alcoholic drinks. we also have non alcoholic drinks coming out from breweries e.g Malts etc. Let us also remember that the brewery section is just a part of a conglomerate which simply means they would have other departments. Are we now saying that as christians we can work in any part of that company?
There is need to be very objective in our opinions and views even as christians lets all snap out of this barbaric beliefs and live our life still in the will of God and I sincerely believe that it doesnt stop any one of Us from working in a brewery. Are Christians we aint meant to suffer and be miserable, but some of us wallow in poverty due to our lack of wisdom and understanding. I would imploy that in all we seek in this we should seek wisdom from God so we can have a better understanding of things ourselves.

I strongly believe that there is nothing stopping a christian from working in a Brewery except if there is a divine redirection for such a person from God.

Re: Can A Christian Work At A Brewery? by pito: 7:37pm On Aug 19, 2008
It is a matter of principle. Working at a brewery has nothing to do with religion. You can be a cchristian and still work at a brewery as long as you don't defile your body by drinking you r not committing any sin. Not working at a brewery just because you r a christian is taking things to the extreme. Afterall chairman of NB PLC is a born again christian.

What a dork

God finally answers the prayer by providing a job and now he wants to play pick ands choose. If he likes let him not take the job. It should go to a more sensible person anyway

Didn't you read AKO's analogy? What's the difference between that and a christian working in McDonalds that feeds the world with high cholesterol and fat? it's also a sin to work in tantalizers.

Question:

Should a christian work in a casino or night club?
Re: Can A Christian Work At A Brewery? by seyibrown(f): 7:43pm On Aug 19, 2008
If his conscience tells him that working in a brewery is sin, then it is sin to him.

I consider his working in the non-alcoholic department hypocrisy. If the production department did not exist, his non-alcholic department post will most probably not exist.

It's like saying, I work in a brothel but I don't do the fucking or I don't embezzle money, I just follow the instructions of my oga to do the paperwork.

do you also a quotation that says "never do 419" to know that it's wrong?

people and questions

@ topic, that decision is entirely his.
No man should coerce him into anything.
If he chooses to work there,he has not sinned
If he quits his job due to personal convictions, he has done well.
The Bible condemns drinking to excess like other excesses including gluttony, sexual excesses etc
Christians generally abstain from drinking because of it's connotation.
The Bible talks of drunkenness not drinking but we know drinking is a gateway that could lead to drunkenness.
I would gladly work in a brewery  to support my family if I had to.

Pls quicky tell the guy to reject the job.
When he stays at home for another decade looking for a job he will be wiser cool

Then he will remember that Jesus turned water to wine.

Tell him to resign, he doesn't need the job. Another sinner who needs the job will take it.
