Also, a veteran player had a drawn position against GM sriram... but the GM didn't accept a draw upon offer. He forced his opponent to have the 50 move rule as the only option to claim a draw as they had made many moves without a capture or pawn push. But 3 moves before the 50 move rule could take effect, the nigerian made a careless move as he was certain to get a draw any how. This allowed the GM get a passed pawn on the 3rd rank. I hope he still got a draw as I left there at 10pm and the game was still on. The GM literally sat out his opponent like carlsen does sometimes 1 Like

After a break of a few years due to personal circumstances I am resuming my regular trips to Lagos. Hopefully I will be spending a lot of time 'in country'. Is there a Chess Club around VI or IKOYI? And if so can I have contact details and times please. |

hello yall....long time in here. there was a lil argument over the point given to the king on my chess thread...decided to bring it here. what do you all think about the link below joshphorlarb: chessguru,haywhy28,jayriginal, goofyone, prof800,saintneo,kolooyinbo |
Re: Nairaland Official Chess Thread! by KoloOyinbo(m): 4:25pm On May 04, 2015 |
joywendy: I followed the link but it was just to a GENERAL chess board and I could not see anything relevant to this topic? What point is being made about the King? |
Re: Nairaland Official Chess Thread! by prof800(m): 6:14pm On May 04, 2015 |
joywendy: The king is priceless. The value is undefined. |
Re: Nairaland Official Chess Thread! by KoloOyinbo(m): 6:33pm On May 04, 2015 |
prof800: In computer chess the pieces and positional aspects of the board are given numerical scores. In order to ensure the computer realises it is bad to lose the king even if everything else is great - material, position etc - the King is assigned some INCREDIBLY high value. A computers don't understand priceless something like MILLIONS is chosen so there is no way anything else - material OR position can outweigh losing your King. |

joywendy: Wow. I think this is referring to the relative STRENGTH rather than the VALUE! Otherwise I will trade my Queen for your King any and every time! |
