Birmingham City Running The Rule Over Tobi Coker

English Championship outfit Birmingham City look set to beat Fulham and Charlton Athletic to the
signature of Tobi Coker after inviting him for trials.

The Academy coaches at St Andrew's have been watching the 16-year-old midfielder at close quarters for the past few days.

The ex Millwall youth - teamer is relishing the prospect of signing a contract with the Blues, and has pointed out that the club give young players first team opportunities.

''The trials have been good, and I do hope to get signed. They just need me to get fitter, they say, so I'm working on it,'' Tobi Coker said to SL10.ng.

''I know Birmingham City always promote youth team players, and they have very good facilities, so if I could, I think it would be a great place.

''My teammates have all been nice, I am well treated here. I train with the Under 18s in the morning and Under 16 squad in the evening.''

Before Tobi Coker started testing with Birmingham City, the likes of Leyton Orient, Hull City and Cardiff City had considered inviting him for trials.

He could be traveling to Nigeria in two months time for the friendly between Team Nigeria United Kingdom and the Golden Eaglets.

Barca Will Not Recall PSV's Adekanye

SL10.ng can exclusively report that Barcelona loanee Bobby Adekanye will be staying put at PSV Eindhoven for at least the next twelve months.

Reports that emanated from the Spanish press on Wednesday had suggested that the winger will cut short his loan spell at the Dutch club, and make a return to La Masia academy in February 2015.

But Ademola Adekanye, who can act as agent for his son according to FIFA rules, has put to bed those arguments, insisting that a deal has already been struck for the player to remain in Holland until the end of this calender year.

''Bobby is not going back to Barcelona yet, and he is happy with PSV Eindhoven for now,'' Ademola Adekanye said to SL10.ng.

''Yes, I can confirm that he is not returning to Barcelona next month.''

The highly rated starlet was allowed to leave Barcelona last year after Fifa sanctioned the club for violating the regulations on international transfers and registration of foreign players under the age of 18.

Bobby Adekanye will celebrate his 16th birthday on February 14, 2015.

Eaglets drub Super Lion 9-1

Golden Eaglets massacred Super Lion Academy 9-1 in a training match on Wednesday morning at the NFF/FIFA Goal Project pitch in Abuja.

"Overall, this was a very good performance by the boys irrespective of the score line," coach Emmanuel Amuneke said afterwards.

"We are very impressed with the marking ability of the team, their cohesion and calmness against a very good side because the Super Lion players are more experienced.

“For us, this is a good starting point and we would continue to work harder."

The Golden Eaglets are fine-tuning their preparation ahead of the 11th African U17 Championship to be hosted in Niamey between February 15 and March 1 where they are drawn in Group A against hosts Niger, Guinea and Zambia.

Among the goals for Golden Eaglets were Victor Osimhen, Ebere Osinachi, who grabbed a brace each as well as Suleiman Abdullahi, Samuel Chukwueze, Kelechi Nwakali and Kehinde Ayinde; Super Lions' Moshood Aliu conceded an own goal, while Omo'Oba Kasali got his team's consolation goal.

The friendly match against the Suleja-based team from Niger State was Golden Eaglets first in almost three months since their victory against Akpabuyo United in Calabar on September 20, 2014, but theAmuneke-led boys showed no sign of rustiness in a high-tempo match.

They were rewarded with the first goal in the fourth minute, when Osimhen's shot bounced off goalkeeper Segun Sunday for the curtain raiser.

Lion responded swiftly and got the equaliser in the eighth minute following an acrobatic volley by Kasali that beat Amos Benjamin.

But five minutes later, Abdullahi restored the Eaglets lead when he broke free from the offside trap to slot the ball behind on-rushing goalkeeper Sunday.

Fleet-footed Chukwueze grabbed the third goal in the 17th minutes after latching on to an incisive pass from new boy and former national U15 midfielder Abass Ibrahim.

Meanwhile, captain Nwakali came up with perhaps the best goal of the match with a well-struck free-kick on the edge of the Lion's box 12 minutes later for Eaglets' fourth goal.

Three minutes later, under-pressured Lion's captain Idowu conceded a cheeky own goal as he headed the ball straight into his own net off a pullout from Chukwueze, while Osimhen got his second goal on the stroke of half time.

In the second half, Amuneke introduced his new recruits sourced from the recent open screening and they did acquaint themselves even against supposedly bigger opposition.

Nevertheless, it was the more experienced striker, Ebere Osinachi who snatched a brace in the 70th
and 72nd minute, while his replacement, Kehinde Ayinde, powered home a header off a precise pull out from former U15 midfielder Feyi Asagidigbi to the delight of the watching spectators.

I warned my boys about 'dangerous' Eaglets - Lions owner

The Golden Eaglets under the watch of Emmanuel Amuneke, 1994 African Footballer of the Year, have been tipped to go places at the 11th African Championship in Niger.

This much was the opinion of Alhaji Shehu Abdulkadir, the proprietor of Super Lion Football Academy after the Golden Eagles put his Suleja-based side to the sword s in a 10-goal thriller mid week.

Pulsating
In a pulsating match at the NFF/FIFA Goal Project Pitch in Abuja on Wednesday, the Super Lion fell like a pack of cards as the Golden Eaglets turned on the style scoring some breathtaking goals.

- I'm highly impressed about the standard displayed by the national Under-17 team, said. Abdulkadir, the chair of Haidar Oil & Gas Nig. Ltd.

Battering ram
- I forewarned my team that the least they can do is to contain the Golden Eaglets but I never knew they could batter us like this.

- But despite the high-margin loss by my team, I'm so happy that the Golden Eaglets can put up such a wonderful performance and we shall be supporting them all the way in their coming competition in Niger, he added.

Golden Eaglets: Battered Super Lions want rematch

Super Lion's coach Donald Owelijah equally admitted that the Golden Eaglets were technically superior against his side, praying for a rematch to turn the tide against the Niger 2015-bound side.

- Of course, I was disappointed with the way we lost but you cannot take anyway from the Golden Eaglets with the way they fought for every ball against us, he said.

Impressed

- I'm quite impressed with their penetrative passes and above all, these are young boys who played with little errors; I love their fresh faces.

He commended the Golden Eaglets' spirited efforts and tactical awareness, adding they would be hard to beat should they show such resilience at the forthcoming 11th African U-17 Championship to be hosted in Niamey between February 15 and March 1st.

Domestic friendly

Incidentally, Wednesday's victory was Golden Eaglets' 18 in 19 domestic friendly matches plus a goalless draw recorded against Anantigha Stars on July 12th, 2014 in Calabar.

The Golden Eaglets would expectedly play more fine-tuning matches towards their preparation for the continental cadet championship where they have been drawn in Group A against host Niger, Guinea and Zambia.

NFF Confirm Kaduna For U17s

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed that the Ahmadu Bello Stadium (ABS) in Kaduna would on January 17 host the proposed friendly match between the Golden Eaglets and Amajimbos of South Africa.

According to reports made available to SL10.ng, the friendly will afford both countries to see their teams in real match situation and assess their teams ahead of the 11th African Under-17 Championship which will start next month in Niger where they have been drawn in separate preliminary groups.

The Golden Eaglets drew Niger, Guinea and Zambia in Group A while the Amajimbos who are coached by Molefi Ntseki, are in Group B alongside defending champions, Cote d'Ivoire, Mali and Cameroon.

Officials believe the friendly would also afford both teams the chance of playing against a team outside their sub regions. Incidentally, the trip to Kaduna would be Golden Eaglets' second time under coach Emmanuel Amuneke after they recorded a 3-2 and 3-1 win against their colleagues from Egypt last May.

Yet the forthcoming match promises to be even more exciting after the Amajimbos saw off the gritty Egyptians 4-3 on aggregate to book their appearance at the continental cadet championship hitherto dominated by the Golden Eaglets including two gold medals in 2001 and 2007.

"This is a real good match to test our players against a quality opposition," noted Kabiru Baleria, 'Golden Eaglets' assistant coach.

Eaglets welcome South Africa friendly

The coaches of the Nigeria U17 team have welcomed the challenge that their South African counterparts will give them, as they look forward to facing them in Kaduna.

Kabiru Baleria, one of the assistant coaches of the Eaglets, summarised the expectations of the team when he said:

Quality opposition

- This is a real good match to test our players against a quality opposition.

- Playing against the South Africans would also give us an idea about how we can handle Zambia since they are from the same region.

Friendly

It would be recalled that the NFF organised top friendly matches for the 2013 World Cup-winning Golden Eaglets and they defeated Rwanda and Botswana in Calabar ahead of the CAN U-17 in Morocco.

Meanwhile, the South African 30-man of players and officials are due in Nigeria mid-week and are expected to stay for four days before returning home after the match in Kaduna.

Golden Eaglets rally back to defeat Virgin Kids

The Golden Eaglets beat Abuja-based Virgin Kids Academy 3-1 at the NFF/ FIFA Goal Project in Abuja on Saturday in continuation of their build up towards Niger 2015.

Kehinde Ayinde and Victor Osimhen scored three goals between them to cancel Virgin Kids' opening goal by Samson Ekemezie.

Defensive

Coach Emmanuel Amuneke started with a possible line up pairing the duo of Chidera Akachukwu and Kanu Chibueze in the central defensive positions in only their first match for the national U-17 team.

Virgin Kids started the game fast and furious and defended in numbers to keep the adventurous Eaglets' attacking duo of Samuel Chukwueze and
Ayinde at bay.

The Eaglets would later concede a corner kick on the other end and Ekemezie wasted no time in volleying the ball behind goalkeeper Udoh Akpan in the 24th minute.

Selected

But 10 minutes later, Ayinde who was selected from Kwara Football Academy, gave the Golden Eaglets the needed equaliser when he sneaked behind the opposing line of defence to slot the ball into the net behind goalkeeper Abayomi Oluwole.

On resumption of the second half, Amuneke injected some of his battle-hardened lads with gangling Victor Osimhen coming on for Ayinde and Abass Ibrahim for Chukwueze.

The replacements brought some vibrancy into the Eaglets and Osimhen lived up to expectations by grabbing a brace with two well-taken goals.

In the 52nd minute, he robbed Virgin Kids' defenders in the box and cleverly placed the ball behind the reach of goalkeeper Abayomi Oluwole.

Majestic

He was back in the hunt again 13 minutes later when he majestically guided the ball straight into the net after substitute Nasifi Yahaya's pass had cut out on-rushing Oluwole yet again.

But for some excellent goalkeeping by Oluwole who incidentally couldn't make it during screening exercise, the Golden Eaglets could have run away with a higher goal margin win following misses by Osimhen and Yahaya towards the end of the match.

Eaglets get praise after narrow win

The Nigeria U17 national team have earned rare praise following a come-back win over a local team in training game on Saturday.

The Eaglets dug deep to turn a 1-0 deficit into a 3-1 win over Virgin Kids and assistant coach, Kabiru Baleria was full of praise for his lads.

Tougher

- Unlike the game we played on Wednesday, today's match is a bit harder for the boys especially the new ones but we are happy we won, Baleria said.
- The more we play these matches the better for us since it would help our preparation for the African Championship in Niger.

Saturday's win was Golden Eaglets 19 in 20 domestic friendly matches having drawn blank against Anantigha Stars in the other game six months ago in Calabar.

South Africa U17s kick against Kaduna over security fears

Saturday’s friendly between Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets and the Amajimbos of South Africa may now be played in Abuja after the visitors expressed fears over the security situation in the Northern Nigerian town of Kaduna.

The match, which is aimed at preparing both Nigeria and South Africa for next month’s African U17 Championship in Niger, has been fixed to be played at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna.

However, it was specially gathered that the South Africa Football Federation (SAFA) have since asked that the match be played in Abuja because they fear for their team’s safety in Kaduna, which is about 200 kilometres from the country’s capital city.

“The match is now most likely to be played in Abuja after the fears raised by the South Africans,” a top official informed.

Last week, the Amajimbos drew 1-1 with Zambia in another warm-up match. Zambia are in the same first round group with Nigeria’s Eaglets.

Halilu grabs 100th goal as Eaglets rout Giodano

Defender Lukman Halilu rose from the bench on Wednesday to score Golden Eaglets' record 100th goal after 33 friendly and official matches as Nigeria's U-17 team cruised to an 8-1 win against Giodano Football Academy of Kano at the NFF/FIFA Goal Project in Abuja.

Ebere Osinachi also got a rare hat-trick and a brace for Ndu Iheakam; there were also goals for Captain Kelechi Nwakali as well as Suleiman Abdullahi while Ahmad Sabo got Giodiano's lone goal.

Rampaging

After earlier misses, Golden Eaglets went in front in the 29th minute when Giodano's Hamza Abdullahi brought down rampaging Abass Ibrahim in the box and Nwakali converted the resultant penalty kick as he sent goalkeeper Rabiu Adamu the other way.

Four minutes later, Nwakali provided Abdullahi with a pass and the stylish midfielder warded off his marker to glide the ball beyond the reach of Adamu.

With minutes to spare in the first half, Golden Eaglets' Victor Osimhen was penalised for handling the ball in the box and Ahmad Sabo converted the penalty to make it 2-1.

Substitute

In the 53rd minute, Halilu Zakari who came in as a second half substitute for Ernest Agenor, scored his first goal for the Golden Eaglets following a swift pas from another substitute, Jack Ipalibo.

Five minutes later, Maxwell Gold broke free from the left flank and sent a pass to Ebere Osinachi to effortlessly guide the ball into the net.

Diminutive midfielder, Ndu Iheakam nearly broke his duck of scoring a goal for the team in the 67th minute as his header off a pull out by Suleiman Muhammed was firmly held by goalkeeper Adamu.

Provider

Yet, it was the fleet-footed Muhammed who was the provider of the six goals when he dribbled his way into the box and his pin-point cross pushed into the
net by Iheakam in the 79th minute.

Four minutes later, Osinachi would grab his second goal when he evaded his markers and sent an angular shot into the net. Minutes later, Osy as Osinachi is fondly called, grabbed his hat trick of the day. But it was Ndu that got the final goal on the stroke of full time.

Emmanuel Amuneke who led the Golden Eaglets’ team of 21 players and eight officials to Kaduna on Thursday ahead of the weekend's fixture said he was happy to be in Kaduna again.

- We are always comfortable to play in any part of the country and during this campaign, we had played in Abeokuta, Calabar and we had two friendly matches against Egypt last year here in Kaduna, said the former Barcelona star.

Preparations

- Of course, we would have loved to play South Africa in preparation towards Niger 2015 but we are happy that there is another game for us against Sokoto United on Saturday, he added.

The 21 players to Kaduna include inspirational captain Kelechi Nwakali along with striking trio of Victor Osimhen, Kehinde Ayinde and Ebere Osinachi. Others are goalkeeper Udoh Akpan, Ebuka Nwokeocha and Amos Benjamin.

Discoveries

Also in the mix were new discoveries during recent open screening including former U-15 youth internationals like Abass Ibrahim, Mustapha Salisu and Suleiman Muhammed.

Spotlight football club of Kano have painfully admitted their shortcomings following the 8-1 mauling they suffered at the hands of the Golden Eaglets on Wednesday.

The Kano based Academy had been touted as the toughest in the City, but they got more than they bargained for from the rampant Eaglets.

Well beaten

- We have never been thoroughly beaten like this before, confessed Giodano's Coach Ismail Ismail.
- We have always thought we were the best especially in Kano but today, we have seen that we still need to learn new things.

The current set of Eaglets passed the 100 goal mark in all matches during the encounter.

Eaglets arrive Kaduna, to face Sokoto Utd Saturday

Nigeria's Under-17 team, Golden Eaglets, would on Saturday tackle Sokoto United at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna.

The Nigeria National League side was drafted by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) following the late withdrawal of South Africa's Amajimbos from an international friendly earlier scheduled for the same venue.

Postponed

Officials said the match between the Golden Eaglets and Amajimbos was postponed at the instance of the South Africa Football Association (SAFA) due to logistical reasons contrary to insecurity as erroneously reported by a section of the media.

- For the avoidance of doubt, we want Nigerians to know that South Africa did not raise any security concerns about playing in Kaduna, stated Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, NFF's Director of Competitions.

- They had issues with their travel arrangements and they duly exchange correspondence with us in that regard.

Niger 2015: Manu back Golden Eaglets for glory

Manu Garba, the 2013 FIFA Under-17 World Cup-winning coach, believes the Niger 2015-bound Golden Eaglets being managed by Coach Emmanuel Amuneke can go all the way at the 11th African cadet championship.

Watching the new lads for the first time during Saturday's 2-0 win over Nigeria National League side, Sokoto United at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna, Garba drew out some positives, advising Nigerians to rally behind the team's quest for glory in Niger.

Confident

He said he has already hinted his predecessor on some technical tips, saying he was confident that the Amuneke-led team is also on the threshold of history with good preparations for their upcoming competitions.

- It would be wrong to start comparing this present team with the one that won the World Cup, began Garba now tinkering with Flying Eagles.

Impressed

- I was particularly impressed by the two well planned goals. The team will surely qualify for the world Cup and with inclusion of other good players and good preparations; we can conquer the world again.

- Good luck to the team in Niger as we shall keep on praying for all our national teams especially under- 17 and U20 because they are the future of the senior team, he added.

The Eaglets have scored more than 100 goals so far in all matches, as they look towards the Africa U17 championship.

The Golden Eaglets defeated Sokoto United 2-0 in a friendly game played at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in preparation for next month's African Youth Championship

NNL side Sokoto United were hurriedly drafted into take on the Golden Eaglets, after South Africa pulled out of an arranged friendly citing reasons beyond their control.

The first half was dull, drab and uninteresting with few chances as both teams kept the ball in the midfield to go into the break deadlock at 0-0.

However, Emmanuel Amuneke's side got the curtain raiser in the 70th minute through substitute Abdullahi Suleiman.

Seven minutes later the Eaglets doubled their advantage through Victor Osimhen to kill off any challenge from Sokoto United.

Speaking after the game, Amuneke said the performance of his boys against a team in the second division of Nigeria league proved their readiness for the March showpiece in Niger Republic.

Nigeria will battle host Niger, Guinea and Zambia in group A for a place in the next round of the championship, which guarantees qualification for the World Cup.

The tournament will start on the 15th of February with the final schedule for March 1st.

Amuneke: We Aiming To Win The Tournament

Golden Eaglets coach, Emmanuel Amuneke has suggested that he wants to surpass the achievements of the immediate past Eaglets team, as they continue final preparations for the 2015 CAF U17 championship in Niger Republic.

Amuneke, who was on the Eaglets coaching crew that finished second at the last African U17 tournament in Morocco, says he and his players are hoping to go one step further this time, by winning the competition.

“We did well the last time in Morocco but this time we are hoping to do better. We want to win the tournament in Niger Republic and I have this to my players.

“Our preparation have been going smoothly so far and we hope it continues this way till we get to Niger Republic, but we understand the challenge we have,” Amuneke told sl10.ng.

But despite expressing optimism about the chances of his team, Amuneke reckons it is going to be a tough tournament.

“We know it is not going to be easy, it’s going to be tough and we are preparing for that. The other teams will also be going there with the aim of winning and we cannot underrate any team.”

“We always have to show respect to our opponents but we still have to play our game however it is, and hopefully we shall succeed.”

Amuneke, a former Super Eagles winger has already told sl10.ng that he wants to win the CAF U17 championship, but has also posited that beyond winning the U17 tournament, he wants most of his players to develop and become future Super Eagles stars.

“I think one of the essence of having this kind of competition is to groom these players for the future and that is something we also hope to achieve with our players.

“We want to win the U17 tournament, but we also want to train them in the right way so they can grow and develop into players that can play for the Super Eagles in the near future.

“That will be good for us if these players can grow and become the next generation of Super Eagles players because we are trying to train them in the right way and hopefully most of them will make the grade eventually,” he said.

The Eaglets are in their final phase of preparations for the CFA U17 championship in Niger Republic which starts from February 15. They came second at the last edition in Morocco and that team was led by current Flying Eagles coach, Manu Garba.

Amuneke Heaps Praise On Ace FA

Ace Football Academy of Kaduna were praised by the Eaglets coach, Emmanuel Amuneke after they forced his wards to a 1-1 draw on Saturday at the NFF/FIFA Goal Project in Abuja.

Christian Charles gave the Golden Eaglets a first half lead when he converted a penalty after Suleiman Muhammed 's goal-bound shot was handled in the box by Ace's captain, Hassan; who later brought both sides on equal terms in the second half as he nodded home a corner kick beyond Eaglets' goalkeeper, Amos Benjamin.

The Golden Eaglets actually started with a possible line up complete with many youngsters recruited from the national Under-15 team but it was there for all to see that some still need some catch up days leading to the team's opening match against host (Niger) at the forthcoming Niger 2015.

"I intentionally started this match with many of our fringe players in order to see how they can collectively cope," Amuneke said afterwards.

"But Ace really gave us a good test and we can now judge some of these youngsters better."

While Ace practically dominated the first stanza of the match but lost several opportunities, the Golden Eaglets were better towards the endof match following the introduction of their tried and tested legs.

"I think Ace was better than us especially in the first half but we are not discouraged about the performance of some of our players,"

Amuneke added:."Now, we are gradually having a clearer picture of what our team would look like in Niger."

Niger 2015, the 11the African U-17 Championship would be held in Niamey between February 15 and March 1st. The Golden Eaglets are drawn in Group A along with host, Niger; Guinea and Zambia. Nigeria and their northern neighbour, Niger, would play the championship's opening fixture of February 15 at the Stade Général Seyni Kountché (SGSK) multi-purpose stadium.

Golden Eaglets Held By Ace Academy

Kaduna based team, Ace Academy for the second time have held the Golden Eagles to a 1-1 draw at the NFF/FIFA Goal Project Pitch in Abuja.

Having met thrice, the Eaglets won by a lone goal in their first meeting courtesy of lone strike by Promise Orji but the last two meeting has been a tough one for both sides, the Kaduna based side have shared the spoils with an identical 1-1 score line in their last two matches with the Golden Eaglets.

This time Kelechi Nwakali gave the Golden Eaglets a first half lead only for Taiye Balogun to fetch Ace Academy a much-needed extra time equalizer.

Murtala Muhammed, the hard working General manager of Ace Academy, said he was impressed with the Golden Eaglets despite recording another draw.

"This is the third time we are playing Eaglets but I think this was our best and we really wanted to win this particular match. But the result notwithstanding, I really want to thank the coaching crew of the Golden Eaglets for given us the opportunity and we want to wish them the best in Niger."Murtala Muhammed said graciously.

Ace dominated the first quarter but went behind in the 22nd minute when Golden Eaglets' Samuel Chukwueze's shot hit an opposing defender in the periphery of the box; and the resultant free kick was converted by Kelechi Nwakali.

Ace nearly got the equaliser in the 26th minute through gifted Hassan Usman but his shot went delicately over the bar. Goalkeeper Akpan Udoh came to the rescue of the Golden Eaglets again in the 44th minute when he stopped Onyeka in a one-on-one situation to end the first half.

In the second half, it was a ding-dong affair with little separating the two sides. But in the 66th minute, Mbuotidem Anietie dribbled his way into the ACE box but saw his lively shot wide. Coach Amuneke then brought in striker Victor Osimhen for Ebere Osinachi to add pep to the Eaglets attack against the resilient ACE defence.

The game was going on forever and ACE finally got their equalizer in added time when Taiye Balogun fired a volley behind Udoh who had virtually been on holidays.

Coach Idris Musa of ACE afterwards stated that the Golden Eaglets would do well at the forthcoming 11th African U-17 Championship.

"The Golden Eaglets are a strong side and I want to believe they would do us proud in Niger."

Amuneke Charges Eaglets To Be Focused

With the 2015 CAF U17 championship just around the corner, Golden Eaglets coach Emmanuel Amuneke has warned his players they must remain focused if they are to win the competition.

The Eaglets arrived Sokoto on Friday afternoon, where they are expected to camp before leaving for Niger, where the cadet tournament is holding.

And Amuneke, a member of the coaching staff of the U17 team that came second in 2013, says if they are to meet their target of winning the competition, his players must have all their focus on the tournament.

“It is easy to say you want to win the competition but the effort you put matters a lot and as a result, I have told my players that they must focus on the tournament and nothing else.

“This is the most important task for us now and thinking about something else will be a distraction for us. We want to do better than we did the last time and the players understand the only way of doing that is to remain focused on the task at hand.”

But despite his dedication to winning the championship, Amuneke further reiterated that he must also develop players that are good enough to represent the Super Eagles In the nearest future.

“We must also understand that we have to build a team that can withstand the pressures of the game after the U17’s. This is not the end of football, but rather, it is the start and we are building these players so they can play for the Super Eagles in the future.”

Fasbir FA To Face Golden Eaglets

The technical crew of the national U17 team, the Golden Eaglets will have one last chance to see their wards in a real match situation before they leave for the Africa U-17 Championship, they'll face Fasbir Football Academy at the Giginya Memorial Stadium in Sokoto on Wednesday.

Eaglets head coach, Emmanuel Amuneke, has stated that it was imperative to play a local club partly as a token of appreciation for their hospitality to the team by fans and football stakeholders since their arrival on Friday.

"We are going to give our best against Fasbir FC on Wednesday and apart from the fact that this match would be an opportunity for us to see the readiness of the players, we want to also appreciate the people of Sokoto for their support to us since we arrive here," said Amuneke.

On the road to Niger 2015, the Golden Eaglets did not lose any of their 25 domestic friendly matches and recently defeated Nigeria National League side, Sokoto United 2-0 at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna on January 17.

Therefore, prestige would be at stake when the two teams confront each other for obvious reasons. Fasbir FC which is owned by Mallam Mohammed Nasir Saidu, the Assistant Director, Legislative Budget at the National Assembly and chairman of Sokoto Football Association , is a strong side having lost just three times after 30 matches and were recently forced to a 2-2 draw by Sokoto United.

Yet Speaking ahead of the eagerly awaited match by Sokoto fans, Fasbir FC Team Manager, Abdullahi Isah Ilyasu said the match would be an opportunity for his young team to learn few things from the Golden Eaglets: " We are really looking forward to the match against the Golden Eaglets since it would expose our players to what is expected at this level, I mean playing for the national team.

"Fasbir FC is a young team formed about two years ago but we have been impressive too even against teams from Niger and we are going to do our best again on Wednesday," he noted.
