Flying Eagles Tournament Ratings Part One
SL10 Rates The Flying Eagles Overall African Youth Championship Tournament Performances Part 1

The Flying Eagles of Nigeria achieved their pre-tournament aim to win the Africa Youth Championship, beating host Senegal by one goal to nothing in the final match of the tournament.

SL10.ng rates the players of their team based on their overall performance at the tournament taking into consideration the games the players featured and in this edition the focus is on Goalkeepers, defenders and midfielders.

Godwin Enaholo:

First choice goalkeeper during qualifiers, kept his spot in the team during the tournament despite missing the first two months of their camping through injury, definitely team handlers will be grateful he returned for the tournament.

Arguably one of the most consistent performers in the team bar the red card he received against Congo, The MFM lad displayed firm grip of the ball impeccable sense of judgment and reflexes also worth a mention is his ability on one on one situation, certainly a future senior team goalkeeper if he keep up his form….8.5/10

Olorunleke Ojo:

A source of worry to the coaches who obviously expected more from the Giwa FC shot stopper, owing to his experience and exposure in the Nigeria Professional Football League however, while he made some good tip over the bar he was suspect in the games he kept goal, guilty of spilling shots and unassured when balls are whipped into the 18 yard box.

He might find it hard to make the team to the World cup unless he steps up his level anyway, he was third choice goalkeeper and only got to keep goal due to an injury to second choice Dele Alampasu, which ruled him out of the tournament….5.5/10

Musa Mohammed:

A marauding full back who displayed his confidence from set pieces scoring four well taken penalty kicks to emerge as tournament top scorer, a driving force and source of inspiration for his teammates due to his tireless running, proved himself as captain but still needs to learn a trick or two about positioning and making tackles and also failed to deliver any of his trademark un-defendable crosses, when he overlaps all through the tournament….9/10

Mustapha Abdullahi:

Blessed with a cultured left foot, a modern day left full back, strong in tackles and a useful outlet in attack only thing missing in his game at the tournament was the final ball when he joins attack and also his finishing in front of goal needs work another player who will definitely be useful in the senior team in the future if he maintains his form and progress as expected….8.5/10

Zaharadeen Bello:

Recovered from a shaky start to the tournament and posted commanding displays in the rest of the team games after the first game, strong and dominant in the air, reads and intercepts play, brilliant and good at playing the ball from the back, he also displayed some nice piece of skills to displace attackers with consummate ease….8.5/10

Izu Omego:

Weakest link in the team first two games but grew in performance in the semi-final and final game of the tournament, tiny body frame and lack of height made him a soft target for strikers and oppositions tried to exploit those deficiencies but in the last two games of the tournament the way he dovetailed nicely with Bello showed the coaches faith in him was not misplaced….7/10

Saheed Abdulganiyu:

Failed to live up to the pre-tournament hyped what surrounded his inclusion in the team, the Ace academy skipper failed to grab the chance provided to him by the coaches in the last group game, to stake a claim to Omego spot in the team showed good pace and strength in one on one battle but nerves got the better of him, little wonder the man he replaced claimed back his spot without breaking a sweat still showed enough promise to get a slightly above average rating….5.5/10

Akinjide Idowu:

Defensive midfielder who operated like the house boy of the team mopping up his teammates errors and covered up for the full backs when they venture forward ,won back possession and drives the team from the rear, took up his position in front of the defence and performed the role of a shield especially in games they struggled to dominate with their passing style, a willing runner all through the tournament and have every potential to grow into a box to box midfielder with proper coaching….8.5/10

Ifeanyi Ifeanyi:

A salient achiever in the middle of the pack for his team acted as the conduit pipe in transition from defence to the midfield, hardly visible in games but his importance to the team cannot be over emphasized as he played all of their games, disciplined in executing the role he played just in front of Idowu hardly cross the middle apparently on instruction from the coaches, full of graft and energy big future he has got if his progress follows the right trajectory….8/10

Flying Eagles Tournament Ratings Part 2
SL10 Rates The Flying Eagles Overall Tournament Performances, Part 2

Ifeanyi Matthew:

Struck his only goal of the tournament with the precision of a veteran, the El-Kanemi man array of passes easily pass as one of the best in the tournament, rarely misplace passes, though slow downed by injury in the team subsequent games his performances in the first two group games confirmed his rating as a top prospect in the game the live wire of the team who brings top striker Taiwo Awoniyi to life with his inch perfect, properly weighted over the top passes….8.5/10

Chidera Ezeh:

The FC Porto youngster was one of the few who failed to live up to the pre-tournament hype that surrounded his inclusion in the team, although he got injured and couldn’t play some of the team decisive game, he will however be disappointed he didn’t make the most of the chance he was given as a starter, skilful, pacy and a clever dribbler none of his quality was on in the games he played….5.5/10

Obinna Nwobodo:

Bar the final game where he went missing, the Enugu Rangers teen midfielder proved breaking into the Under-20 team is possible even if one is not a part of the last under-17 team, scored and created opportunities for others, his ball handling and usage was top class, although guilty of trying to play to the gallery at times, overall he had a tournament where he started as a substitute and ended up as a starter thanks to display when he was brought on….7/10

Wasiu Jimoh:

“Baba Kwara” like they call him was far from the man who tormented opposition and score goals for fun during the team camping exercise, earned the trust of the coaches who were forced to try twice using him as a game changer but to no avail, shooting was wayward and his passes were erratic usually deadly from set pieces, he skied the opportunities presented to him during the tournament….5/10

Christian Pyagbara:

His inclusion in the team was viewed by many as a choice made based on his experience being a member of the last Nigeria Under-20 team of Nigeria under John Obuh, however he failed to command a starting role but scored in the only game he played at the tournament despite that he didn’t do enough to convince the team handlers he deserves a spot in the team in the semi-final and final game….5.5/10

Usman Sale:

Broke into the team with a strong showing at the Super 4 invitational tournament but couldn’t replicate same at the Africa Youth Championship in Senegal, although he started out as substitute the last group game he started against Cote d Ivoire explained why the coaches left him on the bench most times, failed to defend adequately while playing on the wings and overall his predatory instinct in front of goal deserted him….4/10

Bernard Bulbwa:

Rescued his average showing at the championship with a stunner that clinch the title for Nigeria, proving he has got class that comes to the fore even when his form isn’t the best however, he sacrificed a lot of his attacking qualities to help the team defensively in the group games and returned from an injury to play in the semi-final and final game where he scored the goal of the tournament that might earned him a FIFA PUSKAS award for goal of the year….6.5/10

Alhassan Ibrahim:

Comfortable with the nickname “Mu’azam” the lanky forward referred to by many as the new KANU, came into the tournament without any real competitive football in over a month due to an injury picked up while on trial with Croatia side HNK Rijeka, his inactiveness reduced his productivity on the pitch as he was off the pace bar when introduced bar the final game where he displayed some nice touches that proved right the nickname “NEW KANU NWANKWO”….5/10

Taiwo Awoniyi: SL10 Man Of The Tournament

Off the pace during the team camping exercise in Kaduna but shone like a million stars in the super 4 invitational tournament before taking the AYC by storm, most have criticized his goal drought after the group games but one point to note is that he won two of the four penalties Musa Mohammed converted to become top scorer.

He also gave the team a focal point in attack holding up the ball nicely bringing others into play with touches that he made simple to the eyes, his running behind opposition defence made him a menace and that opens up space for his teammates to profit from, set to turn 18 he is already provoking memories of former Super Eagles and Schalke 04 forward Victor Agali….9.5/10

Lawal: Awoniyi Plays To His Full Potential

Some years back those that saw Taiwo Awoniyi start his apprenticeship as a footballer in Kwara State had high hopes for him.

His positioning, brilliance and timing was world class. After a positive attacking performance with a knack for scoring goals, many people thought Taiwo could really thrive as a striker, and how they were correct.

The powerful lad was scouted by Imperial Academy as a result of the recommendation of Kogi United goalkeepers' trainer Wasiu Lawal some years back.

His superb game was spotted by Coach Manu Garba and the boy was outstanding during the 2013 U17 World Cup, which Nigeria won.

A couple of positive performances including his burst of pace earned him a call-up to the Super Eagles B team to the 2014 African Nations Championship (CHAN). However he was dropped by Coach Stephen Keshi at the last minute.

Now fully settled as the first choice striker for the Flying Eagles, it seems that he’s getting better and better as each game progresses, already bagging a couple of assists as well as scoring on a couple of occasions himself.

“Taiwo is enjoying it a lot because he is playing to his full potentials. That’s what he is born to do," coach Lawal told SL10 reporter Ademetan Abayomi.

"Most of all, he is definitely improving as a player. He has learnt how to play in different situations, things like simple passing, control and his awareness.

"His game in these areas has improved, definitely. I’m happy he is getting the rave reviews from technocrats of the game.”

“I remember being pretty amazed when I first saw him play. He was bombing up and down the pitch as well as making several important tackles.

”I think he is a team player and we all saw it at the LMC Super Six and the recently concluded African Youth Championship which Nigeria won.

"He has a real chance to secure himself a big future, hopefully he'll keep improving and soon enough, he will be an important player for the senior national team in future.

Nigeria U23 coach Samson Siasia has called up five players from the victorious Flying Eagles including skipper Musa Muhammed and Taiwo Awoniyi ahead of a crucial All Africa Games qualifier against Zambia.

Visiting Zambia held Siasia’s Dream Team to a goalless draw in a first leg qualifier on Sunday in Abuja.

The overall winners of this match-up will advance to the football event (male) for the 2015 All Africa Games in Congo in September.

AfricanFootball.com can exclusively reveal that the other Flying Eagles stars called up by Siasia are championship winner Bernard Bulbwa, left back Mustapha Abdullahi and goalkeeper Dele Alampasu.

FIFA U17 World Cup-winning shot stopper Alampasu is the third-choice goalkeeper of the Flying Eagles and his inclusion ahead of top choices Joshua Enaholo and Olorunleke Ojo must come as a huge surprise.

He did not get to play even a minute at Senegal 2015.

All the players are expected to join up with the U23 squad latest Sunday in Abuja.

For Zaharaddeen Bello - Report

Marseille are among teams in France eyeing up a move for Nigeria Under
20 international Zaharaddeen Bello, according to footmercato.net.

The central defender was scouted by former Marseille sporting director
Jose Anigo during the African Youth Championship in Senegal.

And the 17 - year - old’s performance ticked the right boxes, with Les
Phocéens prepared to offer a good sum of money to land his signature in
the near future.

But they face competition from fellow Ligue 1 clubs Rennes, Montpellier
and Nice plus teams in England and Spain.

Zaharaddeen Bello is a product of Dabo Babes FC Academy,

Iheanacho & Yahaya Handed International Recalls

SL10.ng has been informed that Nigeria Under 20s coach, Manu Garba, is set to hand recalls to Manchester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho and Tottenham Hotspur trainee Musa Yahaya when he announces his provisional World Cup
roster next week.

Manchester City loanee Chidiebere Nwakali, who played alongside the offensive-minded pair during the 2013 FIFA Under 17s, will also be called up for a training camp ahead of the tournament in New Zealand.

While Iheanacho and Yahaya missed the trip to Senegal for the African Youth Championship on account of injury, Chidiebere Nwakali was unavailable because he was finalizing his loan move to Malaga during the team's training camp.

The Under 17 World Cup - winning manager has kept faith with all the players that made the African Youth Championship squad list, including Porto youngster Chidera Ezeh, who is battling to overcome a hamstring complaint.

In the goalkeeping department, the shaky display of Olorunleke Ojo in Senegal has earned Flash FC glovesman, Adamu Abubakar, a berth on the 35-man provisional roster.

Granada starlet Isaac Success missed the AYC after the Andalusian outfit failed to release him, but coach Manu Garba will be relying on him even beyond the training camp, having included the 19-year-old on the list.

Barring any last-minute changes, El-Cruzeiro sensation Michael Auta and Plateau United midfielder Saviour Godwin will both be observed during the training camp.

The Nigeria Football Federation must submit the preliminary list to FIFA not later than April 1, 2015.

SL10 Chats To Nduka Ugbade

As they continue to bask in the euphoria of their Africa Youth Championship triumph in Senegal, Flying Eagles assistant coach and former Nigeria international, Nduka Ugbade spoke to SL10.ng in this exclusive interview.

Ugbade, the first ever African to lift a FIFA World Cup, speaks on their exploits in Senegal, the future of the current Flying Eagles team, and also says most of them are ready to be integrated to the Super Eagles. Enjoy.

Sl10: Coach, congratulations on the win in Senegal, can you tell is in summary how it was?

Ugbade: Thank you very much. It was an interesting tournament where all the teams came to play and win. A very tough competition too I must say, but the other teams probably didn’t have what we had; which is the information and the science of the game. They were good teams but we were better and we showed it by winning the competition.

Sl10: Before the tournament, you spoke confidently about winning it. How did that confidence come about?

Ugbade: We knew we had a very good team, even if we weren’t perfect. And we also knew it would take ill-luck or another with equal or higher abilities to match us and that was how it went. You could see that most of the teams we played had had bigger and probably older players than us, but we had something going for us and I’m glad the players were able to interpret them on the pitch.

Sl10: Talking about the players, a lot of fans are now calling for them to be fast tracked to the Super Eagles, more so now that the senior Eagles and struggling. Do you think they’re ready?

Ugbade: We’ve seen Lionel Messi, Pele, Michael Owen and several other players playing for their senior teams at very young ages, so I think any of them here is ready. At least one or two of them have been to the Super Eagles camp while we were even in the U17. I remember I was also invited to the Super Eagles after I played the U17 then, but I couldn’t make the Africa Cup of Nations due to some issues. But Henry Nwosu played for the Super Eagles from secondary school. Stephen Keshi also started playing for the Super Eagles from a very young age.

Sl10: But are there any particular ones you think are ready to step up right now?

Ugbade: Every single one of them is ready to make the step up. By the information they have garnered scientifically about the game of football, I think any one of them will do well if they’re called upon.

Sl10: Thank you very much coach.

Ugbade: My pleasure

Musa Yahaya Few Days Away From Full Recovery

SL10.ng understands that there is light at the end of the tunnel for Tottenham Hotspur trainee Musa Yahaya, with the attacking midfielder set to resume full training with the Nigeria Under 20s on April 7.

Coach Manu Garba wants all the players named to the 35-man provisional roster to arrive in Abuja on that date, subject to the approval of the eggheads at the Nigeria Football Federation.

The 17-year-old has not kicked a ball since tearing his knee ligament in a pre-African Youth Championship friendly against the Black Satellites on February 18 in Tema.

After a harsh tackle by a Ghanaian, Musa Yahaya had to make way for Ifeanyi Matthew in the 51st minute to prevent further damage.

Now, the good news for coach Manu Garba and Tottenham Hotspur is that the highly-rated starlet is few days away from full recovery, having started work in the gym and jogging around the pitch.

Despite Musa Yahaya picking up the injury while on international duty, Tottenham Hotspur will not play spoilsport.

The White Hart Lane outfit have agreed to release the player once they get an invitation letter from the Nigeria Federation.

Blog: Six Flying Eagles Stars Capable Of Earning Super Eagles Call Ups

The African Youth Championship saw the quality in the Flying Eagles side, as the players were in superb form.

The tournament witnessed expert goal poachers to midfielders with flair as well as highly agile defenders with an extra bit of an attacking sense. These players together illuminated the AYC with their fine talent and made the tournament a delight to watch.

SL10 reporter Ademetan Abayomi takes a look at six of them who have aroused public interest in the African Youth Championship, and have made it clear through their displays that they possess what it takes to be invited to the Super Eagles set-up.

6. Musa Mohammed

A solid right-back that a right thinking coach will like to have in his team. Muhammed packs shots in his boots and he is also a free kick specialist. He bagged 4 goals to emerge as the 2015 African Youth Championship top-scorer. He has been a consistent performer since 2013, winning the 2013 FIFA U17 World Cup and also the 2015 AYC.

He is definitely going to be the man that the Super Eagles technical crew can build their team around. Muhammed's goal scoring abilities and his knack for rising up to the task in big games are surely lethal attributes that can help him adapt anywhere.

5. Obinna Nwobodo

Flying Eagles's winning efforts were not only from an attacking angle, but also from a midfield perspective. One man who stood head and shoulders above all other midfielders in the squad, and who made that impressive statistic possible, was Nwobodo.

The Enugu Rangers midfielder was consistently brilliant with his performances at attacking midfield in Senegal, forming a creative spark with Ifeanyi Matthew.

4. Mustapha Abdullahi

As an agile, athletic no-nonsense defender, Mustapha was not only disciplined in defending, but he was decent in instigating attacks from the back, making his territory a no go area. His brilliance was well praised, without the slightest doubt.

2. Bernard Bulbwa

Bulbwa's emergence as a reliable marksman has been propelled by many elements including coach Manu Garba being a major factor. He is the creative genius in the Flying Eagles team, the skillful dribbler who gets past defenders with ease, displacing them and releasing acres of space for Taiwo Awoniyi to do what he does best. Bulbwa is a versatile attacking player, the type who can play as a second striker, an attacking midfielder, and a left/right winger. But his silky skills are best shown when he plays as a trequartista, further forward behind Awoniyi. His stunning winner against Senegal made the world sit up and notice him.

2. Ifeanyi Matthew

Matthew is a stylish midfielder, capable of spraying defense splitting passes all over. The witty play-maker was at the heart of everything good during Flying Eagles' title winning campaign. He was the conductor, who dictated the pace, direction and timing of his team's attacks.

Time will tell if this genius will receive a call up to the Super Eagles, as surely, the national team could make use of his graceful flair and vision. He has all that it takes to thrive in a fluid tactical set-up in Europe. Also, he is definitely got goals in him, not to talk of his eye for an assist.

1. Taiwo Awoniyi

The energetic forward is the man of the moment, an exciting striker loved by almost every football fan in Nigeria. He has been on cloud nine over the last few months - not only scoring for fun, but also dazzling fans with his breath taking attacking skill.

Awoniyi scored three goals at the recently concluded African Youth Championship, and was a team player during the AYC. Not only is Awoniyi a natural goal poacher, he is also a complete attacker.

34 Of 35 Spots Filled For Flying Eagles?

Barring any last minute additions or subtractions, SL10.ng can reveal that 34 players are already shortlisted by Coach Manu Garba as part of his 35-man preliminary Under-20 World Cup list.

One spots is yet to be filled up but unexpectedly that position will be filled up before the deadline day of April 1st for the submission of preliminary list by FIFA.

Aside the 22 players who went to the Africa Youth Championship and conquered Africa, a further group of 13 players have so far been added to the rooster.

As expected the quartet of Musa Yahaya,Isacc Success, Kelechi Iheanacho, Chidebere Nwakali and Wilfred Ndidi were all handed recalls to the team after missing out on the Africa Youth Championship.

Enyimba International midfielder, Bobby Sokari, who was with the team during the first phrase of camping before getting injured was given a second chance to make an impression in camp ahead of the World Cup.

Belgium super teen Moses Simon, who recently made his debut for the Super Eagles, was also called up with Wikki Tourist new signing Billy Auta handed a recall.

Third choice goalkeeper of the last Nigeria Under-17 team Adamu Abubakar dropped before the Africa youth championship was called up to battle the trio of Joshua Enaholo, Dele Alampasu and Leke Ojo for the goalkeeper's role.

Surprise names in the list includes Bashir Monsur, Adebayo Ademiloye and Ikechukwu Gabriel, however all three players have been part of the team at different intervals during qualifiers.

Bar Moses Simon all players in the 34-man list drafted so far have all been with the team, as Manu Garba believes in working with group of players who are already familiar with his team style of play.

The coach's philosophy has made it hard for players outside his preferred choice no matter how talented to break into the team.

European Clubs Surveying Flying Eagles Players

Members of Nigeria’s U20 team team that played at the recent African Youth Championship have been caught in a transfer web as some elite European clubs have made targets of a swoop for their services, according to report compiled by SL10.

Taiwo Awoniyi, Idowu Akinjide, Bernard Bulbwa, Abdulganiyu Saheed, Zaharadeen Bello, Musa Muahmmed, Mustapha Abdullahi, Obinna Nwobodo, Christian Pyagbara and Ifeanyi Matthew who flew high the Green White Green flag at the just-ended AYC in Senegal,

Muhammed, who won the Golden Boot as the tournament’s top scorer, has seen his stock rise over the past few days and top clubs in Spain and France are eyeing his services.

According to inside sources, talks have commenced for the possible transfer of the defender after the World Youth Championship in New Zealand.

Awoniyi, the player with immense power in the penalty box, has since attracted interest from some top clubs like Manchester United, Anderlecht, Bordeaux, Porto, Everton and Red Bull Salzburg.

Saheed has attracted the attention of two clubs who have grown fond of his defensive duties despite playing one game at the tournament, with Zaharadeen on the radar of Marseille.

Tunisian giants, Club Africain have registered their interest in fair skinned striker Christian Pyagbara. Nonetheless, there are also rival interests from some Portuguese clubs for the forward.

Nimble-footed Bulbwa, who netted the best goal of the tournament, is said to have also attracted interests from Standard Liege and Rosenborg.

Alampasu Set To Miss Dream Team Camp

Flying Eagles goalkeeper, Dele Alampasu, may not available for the U23’s after he was invited alongside four other of his U20 teammates for the All Africa Games qualifier against Zambia.

Bernard Bulbwa, Musa Mohammed, Taiwo Awoniyi, Mustapha Abdullahi and Alampasu were last week handed call-ups to the Dream Team after their impressive display at the Africa Youth Championship in Senegal where they emerged victorious.

But sl10.ng understands that goalkeeper Alampasu may be unavailable due to persistent hand injury.

“Dele (Alampasu) is worried about it because he thinks it’s a big opportunity for him, to play with the U23’s but he has a minor hand injury.

“It was one of the reasons he didn’t play at the AYC in Senegal even after the first choice goalkeeper was suspended.

“The U20 camp will open soon ahead of the World Cup and the U23 is already here. I just hope he recovers in time,” a top source close to the player told sl10.ng.

It is understood that the Estoril of Portugal new signing had a minor hand injury prior to the Africa Youth Championship in Senegal, but couldn’t shake it off to deputize for first choice Joshua Enaholo when he was red-carded in the 4-1 win over Congo, hence the introduction of Olorunleke Ojo.

The Dream Team are currently camped in Abuja, in preparation for the last round, second leg All Africa Games qualifier against Zambia.

The first leg ended 0-0 in Abuja last weekend.

Flying Eagles skipper Musa Muhammed and fellow teammate Zaharadeen Bello are now proud house owners at the Amana Estate in Kano after they received keys to the houses promised them by the Kano governor for winning the 2013 FIFA U17 World Cup.

“We have finally got into our houses at Amana Estate. We are neigbours, each now with a two-bedroom bungalow semi-detached,” an excited Musa informed AfricanFootball.com

“We are very happy that we now have our gifts after a long wait.

“We are most grateful to the Governor of Kano, Rabiu Kwankwaso, for giving us such an enduring gift.”

Musa, for one, said he hopes to stay in his own house.

he is one of five Flying Eagles stars expected to join up with the Nigeria U23 squad in Abuja on Sunday.

Fast rising central defender Abdulganiyu Saheed was a member of the victorious Flying Eagles side that won the recently concluded African Youth Championship held in Senegal.

The Ace Academy of Kaduna captain speaks on his career, Flying Eagles' World Cup chances, his future ambitions and other issues.

SL10 reporter Ademetan Abayomi caught up with the Kwara-born libero in a tete-a-tete discussion.

SL10: The name Abdulganiyu Saheed is synonymous to the Flying Eagles. Can you tell your fans a bit about you?

Saheed: I'm a Yoruba boy, an indigene of Kwara, born and brought up in Kaduna. Playing football has always been my greatest hobby right from my childhood. During my primary school life my friends called me MAYE KWALLO (an Hausa word meaning football wizard). I was different among my peers. Football has always been my passion and I have always prayed to God to make it my profession. Being in the Flying Eagles today is a dream come true. And I hope this will be the beginning of great things in my life.

SL10: You are the skipper of Ace Academy of Kaduna. How has the experience been like?

Saheed: I'm the captain of Ace Academy, a team that has given me a lot. Mr Kola Adegbulugbe Charles, the owner of the Academy is a father, mentor, motivator and my benefactor. He has done a lot to help my career. I pray the grace of God will always be with him. Mr Murtala Mohammed Raji is another wonderful man at the Academy, who has been positive in my life too.

SL10: How come you play as a central defender?

Saheed: Arsenal and French legend, Patrick Vieira has always been my role model, because I used to play in the defensive midfield role before I was converted by my coaches to play in the central defence position. I am happy with the conversion. One of the attributes a good footballer must possess is to have the ability to play in any role. I'm happy with my new position and hope to carve a niche for myself in the round leather game.

SL10: You played some parts for the Flying Eagles at the recently concluded African Youth Championship held in Senegal. Will you say it is the best team we have had in recent times?

Saheed: It's crystal clear to the world that our team is good and tactically disciplined. Our coaches have always advised us to be hardworking and to be dedicated in everything we do. I think the world needs to know that these Flying Eagles team is a team that has always taken each match they played as a final whether it's a friendly game or in a competition.

We aim to win all games. That's the spirit that the coaches have built in all the players. (Say No To Losing). The coaches says to us ''Give Your All''. When you are tired, we have capable hands to help out.

Flying Eagles team is not a team that will go to a tournament to only participate but we will go out there as competitors and I believe what happened at the 2013 FIFA U17 World Cup can still repeat itself in New Zealand. With God on our side, we would go out there and conquer the world. I'm happy to be part of this victorious team that conquered Africa and who will still go out there to conquer the world by the grace of God.

SL10: What is the secret of the success of the team?

Saheed: Every team has it own secret, but ours is team work, togetherness, love and having the same positive ambition towards every game. I must tell you that the coaches have also done a lot towards the success of the team in the sense that, they always advice us not to be individualistic. We were told to always think as a group, a compact team helping each other, for we are all in it together. Prayers have also been one of the greatest reason behind our success and we thank Nigerians for their support and hope for more as we prepare for the great battle that lies ahead in New Zealand.

SL10: With the likes of Aliyu Abubakar and Wilfred Ndidi expected to join the team for the World Cup preparation. Do you fancy your chances of being picked for the competition?

Saheed: Football is not all about big names as people see it. I believe it's all about determination and self belief. I'm always ready to give my best at any given time I'm called upon to play and with God on my side, I believe will be successful in life. I wish every other players success too.

SL10: Looking at your career, what do you hope to strive to be in the next two years?

Saheed: We all know that every player has a future ambition. I'm not an exception because I also want be great and become one of the best in my position. My target is to play for a good team abroad. I know how competitive it's going to be and I'm ready to face the challenges with God on my side. I know my dreams will come true Insha Allah.

SL10: Looking at the World Cup, where we were drawn with Brazil, Hungary, Korea DPR in Group E. What are the chances of the team in New Zealand?

Saheed: I think this team of ours have a great chance in New Zealand. Our record will really help us. The success achieved at the just concluded African Youth Championship has sent a strong message to the world that 2013 FIFA U17 World Cup win wasn't a fluke. This team is determined to play in the final of New Zealand 2015.

SL10: What impact has coach Manu Garba played in your career?

Saheed: I must let the world know that no amount of words could be used to describe coach Manu Garba. He has encouraged me in so many ways, even though I was new in the team, coach Manu Garba (MON) never treated me like that. He made feel like I'm part of the family right from day one that I was first invited to join the team. I'm using this great medium to tell football fans that Coach Manu Garba, without any reasonable doubt is one of the best coaches in the world. He is fair and sincere. He always tells you his mind face to face - criticism and praise. My gratitude to him for the chance to represent my nation.

SL10: Any offers for your services?

Saheed: Offers have come from foreign clubs which I have been hinted about but the fact is I do not want that to distract me. My focus now is preparing myself for the big task ahead. I believe better days lies ahead and I'm sure my manager, Mr Kola Adegbulugbe is doing a great job as he knows the best for me.

Ezeh To Return To Action In The Next One Week

FC Porto Under 19 striker, Chidera Ezeh, is making good progress in his bid to return to action, a source in the know has informed SL10.ng.

The Nigeria Under 20 international picked up a hamstring injury before the African Youth Championship, and suffered a relapse during training a day before the Flying Eagles tackled Ivory Coast in their last Group A fixture.

As a result, coach Manu Garba could not rely on the attacker's services in the last three games of the championship.

Since his return to Nigeria, the River Lane Academy product has been undergoing rehabilitation in Enugu.

And by the look of things, he'll get the medical all-clear to resume full training with his international colleagues in the next one week.

In recent memory, Chidera Ezeh has been unfortunate with injuries while with the national team, having suffered a hamstring injury against Tanzania in an African Youth Championship qualifier last May.

The 17-year-old will use the next one week to get himself in tip-top condition before the start of the Flying Eagles training camp, which is due to hold in Abuja, subject to the approval of the Nigeria Federation.

Ugbade: Flying Eagles Ready To Step Up To Super Eagles

Following the 1-1 draw between the Super Eagles and the Bafana Bafana of South Africa on Sunday, and with calls still growing for the players of Nigeria’s U20 team to be integrated into the Super Eagles, Flying Eagles assistant coach Nduka Ugbade has reiterated that the players are ready to be blooded into the Super Eagles fold.

The Super Eagles lost at home to Uganda and could only manage a draw with South Africa in Nelspruit in the two friendlies played last week which has raised concerns about the future about the present Super Eagles squad.

And Ugbade, a former Nigeria international, maintains that players from the U20 team are ready to step up into the Super Eagles.

“Every one of them should be able to integrate into the Super Eagles,” he told sl10.ng.

“Like I had said before, most of the most renowned players in the world started playing for their senior teams at very young ages and that includes me,” Ugbade reiterated.

But despite expressing that sentiment, he has advised the U20 players not to concentrate on the Super Eagles yet.

“But the thing is I won’t advise any of them to start thinking of that at the moment. My advice is that they should concentrate on developing themselves,” he added.

Ugbade: We Need To Improve

With the start of the 2015 FIFA U20 World Cup exactly two months away, Flying Eagles assistant coach Nduka Ugbade has posited that they still have to improve to meet up with the standard expected at the world stage.

The Nigerian U20’s won the Africa Youth Championship in Senegal and have already been grouped alongside Brazil, Hungary and North Korea and Ugbade reckons they must improve before heading out to New Zealand.

“We have just about two months within which we are expected to improve our game by correcting all our mistakes,” he said.

“We have to correct the mistakes noticed at the Africa Youth Championship or at the very least 80 percent of them instead of just remaining at the same level,” he told sl10.ng.

The team is expected to commence preparation for the World Cup with a camp in Abuja on April 7, and Ugbade insists they must improve beyond what they have done in Africa.

“We must have to improve because in Africa, skills, individual intelligence and team coordination and cohesion but when you go to an advanced stage like the World Cup, you have to be better because of the advanced mental speed.

“So automatically, we must be able to function at that level or better. Our strength level, movement, reaction, mental speed, movement and understanding of tactical discipline must improve,” he added.

Anderlecht-Target Bello Sets The Record Straight About His Agent

Nigeria Under 20 international, Zaharaddeen Bello, has rubbished suggestions that he is represented by French Federation licensed agent Joseph Pierre Bronde, amid reports linking him with a move to Marseille in the near future.

Muzammil Dalhatu Yola, the coordinator of Dabo Babes Academy, who owned his registration rights, is on the same wavelength as the central defender, saying the 17 year old did not sign an agency contract with Bronde.

''I don't know any agent called Joseph Pierre Bronde. My agent is Babawo Mohammed, my mother and club are aware of this,'' Zaharaddeen Bello said to SL10.ng.

''I am under the age of 18, so it's not possible for me to sign an agency contract with anybody without the consent of my mother and guardian. I don't know these people claiming to be my agent in France.''

Muzammil Dalhatu Yola added: ''This is a case of fraud. We have not received any mail or communication from France regarding Zaharaddeen Bello, we don't know anything about them.

''Nobody has the right to represent Bello apart from Babawo Mohammed. Nobody gave them a mandate, maybe our signatures were forged.''

Yola concluded by saying that Frenchman Joseph Pierre Bronde should provide documentary evidence that would prove beyond reasonable doubt that the Flying Eagles stopper is his client.

''Let them provide the mandate. Assuming we gave them a mandate, what is the duration of the mandate?

''No mandate can be signed without the consent of his mother and guardian, Dauda Auwalu, the owner of Dabo Babes Academy, who has been taking care of Bello for the past seven years after he lost his dad. ''

Zaharaddeen Bello has been linked with a transfer to Anderlecht and AIK Stockholm after displaying his wares at the just concluded African Youth Championship.

Lawal: Flying Eagles Must First Play For Professional Clubs

Former Super Eagles midfielder says U20 players must first get professional clubs to be considered for Super Eagles.

As calls continue to rise for players of the national U20 team, the Flying Eagles to be integrated into the Super Eagles, former Nigeria midfielder Garba Lawal has disagreed with the idea, and says the players may not be ready to make the step up.

The calls for the integration of members of the Flying Eagles have heightened in recent times following their triumph at the Africa Youth Championship in Senegal, and with the dwindling fortune of the Super Eagles.

But Lawal, a former Super Eagles winger says the players may not be ready to make the step-up at this time.

“Most of these players don’t even have professional clubs and they’re not playing at the top level yet,” he told sl10.ng.

“The players are good but we have to pray for them to get good clubs because if they don’t have professional clubs, they can’t make that progress to the Super Eagles.

“If we don’t see you playing anywhere, it’s difficult to bring you to the Super Eagles. Whether we like it or not, these players need to be playing for professional clubs and playing week in, week out.

“I believe that will save our national team but if they’re not playing professional football, it’s difficult to bring them in,” he concluded.

Simon Happy To Play Anywhere For Super Eagles

KAA Gent starlet Moses Simon is happy to play anywhere for Super Eagles of Nigeria.

The former Trencin starlet made his debut as a substitute in the 1-0 friendly loss against Uganda on Wednesday in Uyo and started in the 1-1 draw against South Africa on Sundayat the Mbombela Stadium.

He told SL10: “I'm not fussy about where I play, I'll just do the best I can in any position.

“I was over the moon to make my debut in the first friendly and to have started in the match against South Africa was a good one for me. Hopefully there are better things to come.

“It's been a great start for me in Belgium and to get selected for the games was massive.

“I'm not too sure what to expect but it's going to be exciting.

“When you're a young lad you want to play in massive tournaments for your country. I can't wait.”

The player known as ''The Nigerian Ronaldo'' is set to be included in the Flying Eagles squad to the 2015 U20 World Cup in New Zealand.

Barcelona Pair Balogun And Ekpolo Snubbed By Nigeria Under-20s Coaches

Nigeria Under-20s handlers have no intention of handing call-ups to Barcelona pair Boluwatife Balogun and Elohor Godswill Ekpolo ahead of this summer's Fifa Under 20 World Cup in New Zealand.

Balogun and Ekpolo have made themselves available for selection, despite being eligible to represent France and Spain respectively.

But assistant coach of the Flying Eagles, Nduka Ugbade, has strongly hinted that the La Masia Academy students will not be considered ahead of other players that the coaches have been working with for the past year.

"The bottom line is that every other person is allowed to come for trials apart from the players we have on ground," Nduka Ugbade said to SL10.ng.

"But we have to submit a 35-man list to Fifa, and we have only two days to do that. If there is a prospect of making changes to the list, they can come for trials.

"Nobody can walk into the team because you are playing for Barcelona or Manchester City.

"With the recent development, it's going to be difficult. We have 50 - 60 days to the World Cup."

Boluwatife Balogun turns out for Juvenil A squad of Barcelona while Godswill Ekpolo represents The Blaugrana's B team.

Manu: U23 Invitation No Distraction To My Players

Flying Eagles coach says his players should improve by playing for the U23’s.

With five of their key players called up to the national U23 team ahead of their second round All Africa Games qualifier against Zambia, Flying Eagles coach Manu Garba has posited that it is no distraction to his World Cup plans.

The Nigeria U20’s are expected to commence preparation for the FIFA U20 World Cup in New Zealand with a camp in Abuja on April 7. The Dream Team are playing their must win qualifier against the Young Chipolopolo of Zambia just four days later, but Manu says it is a good thing the players have been called up to the U23 squad.

“It is no distraction whatsoever,” he told sl10.ng.

“It’s a level, psychologically that they must try to attain because there isn’t much difference between the U20 and the U23, it’s just the three year difference in the age category.

“But if you can play at the U20 level, I expect that you’ll be able to play at the U23, so it won’t be a distraction at all,” he said.

Speaking further, Manu posited that playing for the U23’s will help with their overall development.

“Playing for the U23’s should increase their strengths and maturity before they rejoin us and I believe that will make them comfortable to function very well at the U20 level,” he stressed.

The five players invited are captain, Musa Mohammed, Bernard Bulbwa, Taiwo Awoniyi, Dele Alampasu and Mustapha Mohammed.

Bulbwa In Talks With Esperance

Bernard Bulbwa might join Emem Eduok at Esperance if talks between the 2015 Africa Youth Championship match winner progress well with the Tunisian side.

Bulbwa, whose spectacular volleyed goal in the final of the AYC announced him to the world, arrived in Tunisia on Tuesday morning alongside his agent to begin talks with a view of a transfer to be concluded before the World Youth Championship.

Ever present for Nigeria at the Championship playing in all but two of the team game, the-18-year-old was also named in the team of the tournament by the CAF.

He missed out on a chance to represent Nigeria at the Under-17 World Cup two years ago, after failing the MRI test but was reconsidered by handlers of the Nigeria Under-20 team, who are well aware of his ability.

Foreign Clubs After Flying Eagles Defender

Spotlight FC and Flying Eagles defender Mustapha Abdullahi may soon leave the country for a move abroad, a reliable source has informed SL10.

The left-back, who was recently invited to the U23 side, has been scouted by two European clubs.

“I can confirm that two European clubs have shown interest in Mustapha, but it's all up to his representatives to decide on his future,” the source told SL10.

The source didn't want to be drawn into revealing the names of the teams that have shown interest in the young defender at this stage, as it only came to his attention last weekend.

“It's still a new issue and it only became concrete this past weekend. So, we will wait and see what is going to happen from here,” he said.

Mustapha has been previously linked with a move to a club in Norway, but the proposed move hit a snag at the last minute.

Spotlight are unlikely to stand in Mustapha's way, provided the offer is good.

Esperance Face Man City And Stoke Competition For Bernard Bulbwa

Bernard Bulbwa's United Kingdom-based agent has claimed that he was contacted by Manchester City and Stoke before he traveled to Tunisia to thrash out terms with Esperance, SL10.ng understands.

Along with the Nigeria Under 20 international and the manager of Shuttle Sports Academy, Frank arrived in Tunis on Tuesday to hold high-level talks with the higher-ups at The Blood and Gold over a contract.

The interest from the English Premier League pair and other unnamed European powerhouses explains why the agent wants Esperance to break open their piggy bank before he gives the move the green light.

In exchange for Bernard Bulbwa's signature, Esperance are willing to cough up $2.5 million, and the makeup of that sum includes player's wages, fees paid to intermediaries and the compensation to his Lagos-based academy.

The Tunisia powerhouse are eager to conclude talks in the coming days because they know a positive showing by the attacking midfielder at the Fifa Under 20s in New Zealand will increase his market value.

The 18-year-old and his camp don't want to put all their eggs in one basket, and have inserted a clause into the proposed contract.

This will permit them to shred the agreement with Esperance if a suitor comes knocking on the door after the Fifa Under 20 World Cup.

If all goes well, Bernard Bulbwa will sign a three-year deal with Esperance, which will start running on July 1, 2015.

Barcelona Starlet Godswill Ekpolo To Follow In Footsteps Of Amunike

Dream Team VI invitee Godswill Ekpolo may be promoted to the first team ofBarcelona in the 2015 - 2016 season.

Foxdeportes.com has suggested that the defender is one of the players being considered by coach Luis Enrique to replace Dani Alves on the roster if the Brazilian moves to either PSG or a Premiership team in the summer.

Other players that their names have been pencilled down include Pedro, Martín Montoya and Douglas.

La Masia academy products Patricio Gabarrón and Joan Campins, who both represent Barcelona B, could also make the jump, as they are on the radar of Luis Enrique, according to the publication.

Godswill Ekpolo has spent several months on the sidelines this season after rupturing the medial meniscus in his right knee, and that will count against him as his development with the B squad cannot be monitored.

If the 19-year-old plays in La Liga next season for The Blaugrana, he would become the third Nigerian to wear the red and blue colours of the Nou Camp side, following in the footsteps of Emmanuel Amuneke and Gbenga Okunowo.

Arguably, Godswill Ekpolo was the star player of the Barcelona Under 19 team that won the UEFA Youth League in 2014.

Chidera Ezeh Says He Is Ready To Break Into Fc Porto’s First Team

Flying Eagles forward Chidera Ezeh has spoken of his readiness to feature for the first team of former European champions, FC Porto. 17-year old however will wait till October at least to make full debut.

The 17-year old can’t feature for the FC Porto first team as he’s yet to clock 18, and has been featuring for the Porto U19 team.

But with his 18th birthday in October still months away, he tells sl10.ng that he’s mentally ready to break into FC Porto’s first team.

“I will start playing for the first team when I’m 18, which is what I’m looking forward to,” he tells sl10.ng.

“But I have to keep doing what I do. I’ve trained with the first team severally, but my contract stipulates that I must be 18 before I play for the first team.”

The 2013 FIFA U17 World Cup winner played for Nigeria at the African U20 championship in Senegal which they won, even though he had an underwhelming outing.

But he insists he’s set and ready to graduate to the Dragons’ first team as soon as he clocks 18.

“I’m ready to play in the first team because the first team players are only older than me but they do not necessarily have better intelligence.

“I’m ready to overcome any obstacles that could arise because I love the club and they love me too. They encourage me and I know I can do it,” he added.

Flying Eagles to train in Europe for World Cup

Flying Eagles are likely to train in Europe prior to featuring at the FIFA U20 World Cup in New Zealand, it has been learnt.

All hands are now on deck for the recently crowned African champions to go all the way and become the first Nigeria team to clinch the FIFA U20 World Cup in New Zealand in June.

“The NFF are working round the clock to ensure adequate preparation for the Flying Eagles to give their best shot at the World Cup,” an official disclosed.

The Flying Eagles will face adverse weather conditions as well as grapple with a huge time difference in New Zealand.

June is first month of winter in New Zealand with the average temperature in North Island between 4-16 C, while in the south is between 1-12C.

New Zealand is also 12 full hours ahead of Nigeria, so when it is 3pm in Nigeria, it will be 3am in New Zealand.

The Flying Eagles trained in France, Germany and Austria to prepare for the 2013 World Cup in Turkey.

The Nigeria U20s are due to resume training camp soon.

They are drawn in a first round group that has Brazil, Hungary and North Korea.
