Top tips on driving in floods
1. Only drive through water if you know that it’s not too deep. If the water is no more than half way up your wheels, it’s probably safe to proceed.
2. Drive slowly so as not to create a bow wave in front of the vehicle and make sure you have a clear route ahead to avoid stopping in standing water.
3. Always test your brakes after driving through water.
4. Never attempt to drive through fast-flowing water as your car could easily be swept away.
5. If you become stuck in a flood, unless the water is shallow, stay in the car and phone for help rather than try to get out.
6. If your engine cuts out after driving through deep water, do not try to restart it or you could seriously damage your engine. Flood water, particularly sea water, can play havoc with a car’s electrical systems.

Why does my car shake?

There are four instances when you could expect to feel vehicle shake and each one is a symptom of a very specific problem. Some issues are minor and some are more serious. Though this is not an exhaustive list, it does outline the most common complaints we hear day to day.

- Shaking while driving 80 kms on the highway (fast shaking felt through steering wheel): It is probably a tire balance issue.

- Shaking at idle (full vehicle shake): Engine is running improperly, probably not on all cylinders (a misfire).
