Bayelsa, an oil rich state and home to the president and commander-in-chief of the armed forces of the federal republic of Nigeria. The smallest state in the country, very riverine, mostly linear settlement with valleys and swamps on both sides. |

Bad belle peeps full this thread. chino good job showcasing bayelsa, while you haters criticize bayelsa and any other city in the Niger delta, know that all underdevelopment in the delta is a direct result of bad policies of the lopsided entity called Nigeria that has robbed the states in the Niger delta of its commonwealth via controlling its resources, to pay/benefit places like lagos, Abuja, and all the other shanties/towns who happened to have had a dictator/ junta leader incharge of sharing oil wealth from the delta to other parasites. Did i hear some one compare bayelsa to Houston/Texas, go ask Houston/Texas if it controls its oil and gas resources or it relies on Washington DC to share the resources as in lopsided Nigeria. Whether Lopsided Nigeria likes it or not the goose that bear the golden egg that feeds Nigeria will rise, No amount of BH or hate from all the ingrates that tries to bite the finger that feeds them shall stop it. Bayelsa on the rise! Niger delta on the move! haters to the grave!. 9 Likes |

What is the essence of this thread? Only to show us physical development within the state capital? I bet you dnt wanna go to other rural areas to snap pix... It's like saying the whole of Abuja is like Central Area, Asokoro n Maitama ignoring Lugbe, Karu, Bwari, Abaji, Kwali... Or assuming Oji River, Nsukka, Udi, Awgu to be of same standard as Enugu town... Let's always be objective whn opening threads... Let's know the essence of the thread... Let's know what you're trying to preach!!! Thank You 1 Like |

Sloan: Houston, a city in Texas is oil producing as Bayelsa. Now, I will not even compare them in any way but why on earth can't ALL these roads even be marked and well delineated and landscaped? Yes, I know this was the best or one of the best roads you found and took a picture of but I am surprised you do not see this is a disgrace? Yet Bayelsa has a population of less than 2 M but a budget topping almost all the other states when you factor in their oil derivation component? So, in essence from Alamadeighna and Jonathan and the 2 loonies that came after him, they still could not make one proper marking on that stretch of road? No sidewalk on that very long stretch? The difference is that while Texas controls it's oil revenue, Bayelsa does not. 1 Like |

Anyone looking to get a good appreciation of places in Nigeria need to go there physically to witness things by themselves. Nairaland e-warriors won't always post the candid shots of places except they are trying to make their silly tribal or political points. you want to know how Bayelsa looks? Get a vehicle and go there. What about Ibadan or Onitsha? Go there yourself. Simples. |

Given that 20 years ago, Yenagoa was for all intents and purposes a typical Nigerian village, this is a MASSIVE progress. It is progressing like all other Nigerian cities are progressing. Roads built without walkways, lots of hotels, tiny shops with irritating wares hanging outside 'ghettoising' the place. Shocking how town planning isn't a big deal in our country. Maybe the land use act has something to do with it but we need to properly organise our environment and stop all the mega city/new city arrangements. An existing town can be organised properly and nicely. Not by coercion but by encouraging developments where you want them to be. A start would be encouraging tiny shopping complexes in neighbourhoods to have car parks for at least 8-10 cars. |

Wow!! I must admit, if Bayelsans are happy with these infrastructural development then it shows just how much they have suffered through neglect by the govt. I sincerely hope the Nigerian govt will rise up to its obligations and provide world class infrastructural facilities for its people to the envy of the whole world. |
