Dude, this is what I see on a daily basis, in a tertiary hospital for that matter. Can get copies of such reports for you. Are you saying such hospitals don't employ qualified scientist?
The one I can never forget was candida sensitive to metronidazole. This was from an outside lab. I swear on my certificate

There are quack physicians and there are quack Scientists. If you can get the name of the "scientist" and out find if he is licensed we can start from there. The MLSCN has a disciplinary commitee and i know a person who has his license currently suspended. Until you do that i can't believe that a Scientist that goes through the same training i went through will sign and give out such ludicrous result. Therefore i will consider it untrue until proven.

But!...let me remind you that many of the outside labs are owned by physicians who claim they are "all-knowing". I know of a lab (owned by a physician) that gives out PcV results without running the test at all, he does not have a Scientist in that lab. Infact the lab does not have a hematocrit, and that man keeps fighting the Medical Laboratory Science Council officials whenever they come for inspection, refusing them entry into that "kitchen" he calls a lab because he is A DOCTOR. This is very common.

Now you have just blamed the Scientist for a wrong result, see why the Medical Lab council must stand it's ground in the regulation of medical laboratory regardless of who the owner is?

deols: The doctors make demands. The government should reason and provide them for the benefit of all.

Doctors work 24/7 taking care of their patients but these patients seem to care less about what happens to those doctors.

In Liberia, the chief doctor in charge of treating people with the Ebola is said to be under treatment for the same ebola virus.

How can a Nigerian doctor, who was never appreciated all the while, go ahead and be involved when all of their demands for better healthcare infrastructure, for remuneration and for the protection of the dignity of their practice have been denied them. The same Nigerian populace, who suffer more from all these should be drumming the need to see to the needs of the doctors into the government's ears but they are too driven by sentiments and their judgemental attitude to see what is really going on.

People are dying in case none is close to you due to these strikes and the doctors have nothing to lose since the private hospitals are owned by them. Nigerians should be asking the government to do what is right!

Nurses, pharmacists etc are not consultants. They are doing almost nothing at the hospitals right now.

The dignity of the great profession must be protected.and Doctors have every right/conscience to do that.

The government has to see reason and the populace need to be reasonable as well.

God bless Nigeria.
Plz I hav a question for u. To a very hungry person, which one of dis more important dan d other? A. Garri B. soup C. water

Morotov1: The doctors that work those hours you quoted are mostly house officers and junior registrars.
The specialist doctors or consultants have days they work and not those ridiculous hours you mentioned, many clients/ patients will attest to these. You can't compare your hours as a trainee with that of a full staff that does an entirely different thing.
The number of nurses for a hospital is incredulously high to commensurate with the amount of work they do, and even has to be divided into shift duties to ensure the wards are covered and to prevent burn out.
If you feel you are overworked, kindly meet your HOD to assign you shift duty and stop whining on how others organized their work.

And...............If you want money join Ngige and Elumelu and Okowa in politics....they are your kith in medicine.

that doctor should be santioned for doing such an act, i don't condone such an act. but back to my case

the hospital i work with goes through all qualifications of all staff before employment as well as perform an exam. you refuse to believe that a lab scientist, employed by government hospital can produce such a result? are you calling a lab scientist employed by a government hospital a quack?
if you recall in my post, i differentiated between a lab result i got from an outside source to that i got from the hospital? i am willing to accept that people make mistakes, can you?

EBOLA VIRUS
The Liberian Man, Patrick Sawyer, with first case of "Ebola Disease in Nigeria is Dead ..!!!

HISTORY
Ebola kills 90% of its victims
The Ebola virus is named for the Ebola River, where the first outbreaks occurred in 1976.
EBOLA is a killer disease that is transmitted through body secretions such as sweat, blood, saliva, mucous, breast secretion, tears, urine, and sexual transmission with an infected person.
Puts victim in lots of pain.
There is no cure and the cause is unknown.
It can reproduce in 8 hours and when it does, millions of new viruses come out.
It is the world's most deadly virus and one of the most painful deaths possible.
The person can die any where from 3-30 days or even longer.
It is only stopped when it has no more hosts to feed on.
The period between infection with the Ebola virus and the start of symptoms is called the Ebola incubation period, which can be as short as 2 days or as long as 21 days.
SYMPTOMS:
Fever, sore throat, headaches, weakness, joint and muscle pain, chest pain & bleeding from skin.
In pregnant women, abortion (miscarriage) and heavy vaginal bleeding are common Ebola symptoms.
Death usually occurs during the second week of Ebola symptoms, and its usually due to massive blood loss.
PREVENTION
Wash your hands often with soap and water, sanitizer is a good alternative.
Avoid contact with people with suspicious signs and places of outbreak.
Watch out for the warning signs which mimics malaria symptoms.
As always, wash your fruits and vegetables before cooking.
Be the USEFUL VIRUS by reporting any SUSPICIOUS case to the nearest health care centre.

there is nothing much Drs can do about ebola virus since it has no cure. There is no treatment for it yet, so no need of accusing the Dr of wickedness. The most important thing is observation and support of the patients by the nurses and to prevent the spread of the disease. the virologists who are scientists will do the test to confirm the diagnosis. The most important people here are the public health specialists. So the Drs can still continue with their demand. 100,000 hazard allowance should be approved for the health workers that truly deserve it.

Leopantro: Here's a scenario : a woman had an ulcer on her foot from which a nurse took a swab and sent to the lab. Result came out showing a culture very sensitive to genticin and moderately sensitive to another drug. The nurse started injecting the genticin. What she didn't realize was that the woman was diabetic for a long time with resultant kidney problems and that drug could destroy the kidney. When I tried to make an input, I was told to mind my business. RIP woman.
This happened during my service.

Ok I see! Every bad omen happened in the course of ur service. SMH but don't think the public are not aware of organized quackery leading to fatalities that our dear Doctors cover up... For once, I agree with you. And the money shouldn't be just for doctors but every healthcare worker. When we have a case of confirmed lassa fever we were only given the drug to take for free. That drug is horrible with bad side effects. When we asked for a few days off, we were told the hospital was short staffed and couldn't take any day off. That was when I realized that if I contract the virus somebody would replace me and nobody cared.that was when I swore never to go above my duties ever again for the hospital

Doctors work those long hours because govt hospitals employ very few of them. For instance, if doctors are to even attempt running two shifts, the hospital needs employ double their present doctor-workforce for this to even be possible. Do you think the government will consider such proposition? One of the demands of NMA was for government to increase funding for residency. This would enable hospitals have more residency slots (ultimately resulting in more resident doctors per hospital with subsequent reduction in workload); and putting in place necessary facilities (hospital facilities) for the training of said resident doctors. This would mean some form of upgrading of hospital facilities eventually leading to better health-care delivery.

Why are you all fighting yourself? My opinion is that all the health workers must work together to achieve result, for the person that said govt hospital cannot employ quack, abeg na lie, I have met countless quack doctors both in govt and private hospitals and I have met countless intelligent ones that deserved that tittle Dr. Infact there are some Dr you will meet, you will prefer to go self medicate yourself with the assistance of lab result. Each and everyone of you guys is important, I don't believe in self medication, but won't let a doctor prescribe anything without a valid lab result, and won't also let a lab scientist prescribe for me, in fact I usually do diagnosis myself with the aid of extensive internet research but will still go to the hospital to be guided, it helps me to know quack dr too. But my problem with Drs is this their arrogant and above God attitude of theirs. Some of them think they are above everyone else,

Let ask you guys which public servant in Nigerian apart from politicians earn more than you guys?
1. Do teachers in public school and those big private schools earn the same thing?
2. If you wanted to earn the same salary like the oil workers, what stops you from going there to work or applying in their various hospital cos am sure they have some
3. What if other govt employees like police and others decides that they should be the most important , useless as we call them down tools or come up with demands every now and them as you guys do ,( after all they saves life and die more than you guys )until each and everyone of their demands are met. What do you guys think will happen to us all, including you mr dr?

If you don't like the govt remuneration, what stops you from resigning and hoisting your own private hospitals or seeking work from other private hospital possibly run by your fellow drs who am sure will treat and pay you better knowing your worth.

You compare your earning with other big earners in private sector, what if govt decides to treat you like them and downsize or sack you all and replace with other doctors like fashola did, am sure others are itching to get in there, won't you all start looking for public sympathy from the same public that are less than human cos they are not drs.

Did anybody force you guys to study medicine ? Why must we all pay the price for your dissatisfaction ? Tell me, who is satisfied with their wages here in Nigeria?

For those Putin and Iran followers , go there and try your unionizing, it's easy to justify evil from a distance , wait until you get affected

My dear sister it's the same #5,000 all of them receive o...hmmm but NMA want theirs to be #100,000 for Physicians.

Ideally, even #1million naira is not worth a hazard allowance for putting once life in jeopardy for a health worker in Nigeria!

Drs are fighting for their hazard allowance, but be rest assured that once they get it, they will try to prevent others from getting theirs. That is the major problem. I am personally not against the hazard allowance, but I am against a group dictating what another group should get. The Drs will tell us that they deserve hazard allowance more than others since their life is more precious. After all, they went to medical school.

Are you saying that other health workers can't know as much as Drs in their respective fields or in the Drs field? You do not compare apple to grapes.

A person with good self esteem will continue to feel good about himself, and A person with inferiority complex/low self esteem will still have it, your choice of profession will never change that. So saying that you studied medicine, nursing, pharmacy or linguistics will change your self esteem is hilarious
