This method is good but if federal govt adopts it, cost of treatment will increase and people will suffer for it but definitely get what they deserve in medical treatment

What this tells us is that maybe there is an oversupply of doctors of course it may indicate that the government is employing less qualified doctors to work in specialist roles, one must ask questions about the quality of doctors that are willing to work this way. Another question is whether this reflects an oversupply in Lagos State or Nationally. We know many people want to be in Lagos etc. In the UK which was cited in the articles locums earn a lot more than employed staff e.g a Consultant would earn over £80 an hour(often much more!) http://careers.bmj.com/careers/advice/view-article.html?id=20011663
so there are all kinds of variations but it is very unlikely in Nigeria that a specialist Gynaecologist would be sitting an home unemployed waiting for locum work so I very much suspect they would be using less qualified/experienced doctors. It is for the masses after all nd when patients die as a result of human error there is no process in Nigeria most times to highlight this

PapTzy: Kudos to the Lagos state Government.
I doubt if Lagos will get someone like Governor B. R. Fashola in next year's election. His approach to governance and initiatives have been wonderful. It's just a pity that his dream of making Lagos a mega city could not be completed in 8 years.
God bless Fashola.
God bless Lagos state... Eko o ni baje oooo

This is penny wise pound foolish.
If they pay 1k for an hr work, that means they will be paying 10k to me, if i work frm 8am to 6pm, which is the normal thing for a resident doctor. that means above 280k a month.
Is dat nt more than conmess?
dey wil stil buy d equipments needed.
Still r standard doctors practices.
Do why waste money instead of doing d needful.

medical degree is not enough to make decision on diagnosis and treatment of patients. specialist doctors cannot be employed on locum basis. most locum are inexperienced doctors.
