The sheer multiplicity of tribes in the middle-belt is the number one reason why their attempt is a failure at birth. The weakness of the MB is amplified by the constant ethnic wars and battles of supremacy among them e.g the never-ending Tiv/Jukun crisis which always sees each side seeking/accepting the support of more dominant tribes. Their potency as a political bloc is also diluted by this fact as the rivalry that usually ensues on a local level, as a result of the different ethnic group's struggle for their own to win promotes disunity and will drastically reduce their cohesiveness as a political bloc. 1 Like |

The reasons are these, whenever there is a call for all Northern Governors meeting under Arewa, Governors from the middle belt still attends and makes useful contributions. Again the ongoing national conference has shown that the North are still one when it comes to issues on restructuring and true federalism in Nigeria. Delegates from the middle belt still align themselves with the core North to make sure true federalism and resource control doesn't hold. Let's not get deceived here.
