Both merger and current state of oil price fall has hand. But i am certain that it wont affect recruitments.

Most big corp take time to do things. Going through due process. Patience is all you need. Once you have done your web interview... Be grateful. Get engaged in other ventures...

There is likely to be some delays. Just be patient and prayerful. Most times we complain instead of praying, whereby complains wont offer solutions but prayers would.

This is the time you should be prayerful... Not prayer of fear but of faith.

One dude has been displaying pictures on facebook, fellow ex student. He is brilliant and the best graduating student in his set. BUT he didn't fail to acknowledge the fact that God did it for him to get into SLB.com.

He said it's God's grace and not his knowledge because he thought all was over and that he wont be called.

But after several months. He and some other dudes were called.

Complain to your God and not man... Operate not with fear but with faith.

Hello Nairalanders,

I had my Baker Hughes experience at the end of August and was fortunate enough to be selected to join the company. My group didn't have a video interview, we instead were interviewed telephonically - more or less the same thing though. One thing I'd like all of you to know is if you really want a job with an oil services company, patience must be your best friend. I applied in April, was only contacted in June by a recruiter, had my telephone interview in July, attended the BHE in August and since then have been waiting for my contract. It really is a drawn out process. As for the merger, Baker Hughes & Halliburton are distinct and independent until the antitrust issues are dealt with in the second half of next year. Hence the merger has no bearing on recruitment. The same should apply to plummeting oil prices because it is only temporary - they will be as high as ever next year, this time. I emailed my recruiter and she said the two mentioned factors were in no way going to hamper my joining of the company. So in a nutshell, if you did your video interview and passed, exercise a little bit of patience. You will probably be contacted next year, constantly check your profile to see if the dates are changing under the "My Jobs" tab. So just relax, they are probably preoccupied with other things. As for the guys with "Application Under Review", it is probably best to move on. A friend of mine applied for a position early this year and was never contacted. She subsequently applied for a position next year and didn't get a reply. My belief is they select who they want and completely forget about the rest. That's how cutthroat the industry is. Look for other opportunities whilst keeping BH as an afterthought. It'll save you sleepless nights. If you need anything else, I am here for you. I wanted to reply much sooner but the site wouldn't let me until a week had elapsed :p

As requested by a Nairaland, below is a composition of what to expect from any forthcoming BHEs:

Day 1: Began in the morning at 06:00. It is imperative you are on time because your every move is being watched and recorded. Time keeping is a very important part of business and isn't negotiable. I was the last to arrive, but before 06:00 so I was safe. We were subsequently led into a conference room where the recruiters (around 6) all introduced themselves. We were then instructed to stand up and introduce ourselves with a twist - take the first letter of your name and construct an adjective to describe yourself. Here, your ability to think on the spot is being tested. I went first which was a wise decision because subsequent attendees had to recite the previous peoples' names and adjectives. #Phew. After this exercise, we were split into 2 groups - group 1 stayed in the conference room and we're treated to a lecture on Baker Hughes and oil service companies in general. My group, the second, were lead to another room were several exercises were waiting for us. Search glassdoor for ph test, resistor test & mechanical assembly test. I think I might be forgetting one but am not too sure.

The mechanical assembly tests were REALLY challenging. Nothing can prepare you for them unless you are accustomed to deciphering blue prints. Hint: use numbers on the parts to assemble them quickly. Remember you are being timed. The easiest for me was the resistor test. Also keep in mind, safety is of paramount importance. Before beginning any exercise, put on your gloves and eye protection. Reading the manuals is also super important even if you don't understand what to do.

You will note that you are always being watched and your actions recorded. Don't act like you have no idea what is going on, TRY! After the tests, every single one in my group had a one-on-one interview with two recruiters. The usual, "Tell me about yourself,", "Why Baker Hughes", "Are you prepared to travel a lot" type of questions you can find on glassdoor and other similar sites.

Once this was over we changed places with group 1. During the lecture, make sure to ask as many questions as possible and look engaged. They might not look like they are constantly watching you but trust me, they probably already have their favorites by now. After the lecture and a hundred questions later, we had a tea break. Mingle with people and make sure you don't isolate yourself, introverted people are not desirable and they will try to weed them out seamlessly! Don't stick to your country men, MINGLE! Approach recruiters and ask them about their product lines. But also remember that you need to listen as well. Don't interrupt cause you will come across as overbearing which is also a highly undesirable trait.

In the afternoon, we were split into 3 new groups and instructed to choose a rig to design from the projection and justify why we chose that design. We were given BH currency and a shop with materials was "opened" and closed within 5 mins. This is documented extensively in last year's BH thread so read it there. Glassdoor also has info.

Later in the day, we were split into three new groups and had to come up with a presentation to attract students keen on joining Baker Hughes. Speak lucidly and give everyone a chance to talk. Remember antisocial behaviour will not be tolerated.

The last event was a debate. Several options were displayed on the board and each candidate had to choose a point in a scenario and defend themselves. Speak up and don't blend into the background or you will be picked on. Once they begin drawing your attention cause of your silence, be cognisant of the fact you are doing something very wrong. You don't even have to be right, they are testing your train of thought. Whenever you can, reference Baker Hughes Core Values - they love that stuff.

We were called the following Friday (3 days later) and told if we got the job or not. Pay is initially not as much as you'd think. I won't say what, cause it's confidential. Really high pay goes to those with international contracts. So just cross your fingers and go with the flow!

One more thing. The event was only a single day for my group. Additionally I am super disappointed in the people in this thread who made it but wouldn't take the time to explain the process to everyone else who is still awaiting their time. If it wasn't for last year's thread and other sources, I probably wouldn't have gone as far as I did. No one can survive without another and it is important to foster an environment of camaraderie and fellowship. I hope I have satiated everyone and calmed your nerves slightly. Very best of luck for the future. Believe in yourself and never give up!

I am from Gabon,
When I applied, I waited for two months to get a video interview, then I waited for anothe month to get a feedback for the interview.
Your friend has to be patient...but what is interesting is that they always get back to you.
I hope that will help.
Cheers!!!!

Hi guys, I am from Mozambique and we had our BHE with candidates from South Sudan & Ethiopia.
Good thing you made it past the video interview but the bad news is "Interview In Progress" isn't a promising sign. It should say "Evaluation In Progress". It took my group almost 2 months to get feedback from out telephone interview. Oh I forgot to mention we also had an online English test after the telephone interview.
If they gave you a timeline of when the BHE would happened, I understand your worries. But maybe give it until February, at least you're in the system. The people, in my opinion, who should be worried are the ones who were never contacted to begin with. As I explained before, for the most part they pick who they want and ignore the rest. Just try and move on and if something does come up, good. But don't depress yourself obsessing about something that might never be.
To see if there is any activity going on with your application, check the "My Jobs" tab of your profile and look at the date.
Also try other oil service companies in your respective countries. Baker Hughes is one out of many!

very true..not a promising sign. whn u say "My Jobs" i assume u re refering to "My Jobpage" and thn u look at submissions. Cos dat is wat i hav on da webpage whn i log into my account. dnt knw if anyone has anythng different. if so thn under completed submissions da date ther is exactly da day i did my video interview wch was in mid october..."last updated = date of interview for me". again i dnt knw if anyone with "interview in progress" has da same thng like me.

Yes, my mistake, it is Submissions under "My Jobpage". October was was a super long time ago... But still, at least you are in the system. Mine was last updated yesterday. The problem in your case is "Interview In Progress" - it should say "Evaluation In Progress". So not looking too good. Do you have a Baker Hughes office in your country? Meanwhile, put Baker Hughes out of your mind, it's really a 50/50 chance. Enjoy the festive season and begin panicking in late January.
Have you considered Schlumberger & Halliburton?

When did you last edit your profile? Not too sure but I think the date might also reflect the last time you modified data on your profile. This applies when your status is "Application Under Review". The only thing you can do now is wait or go directly to Baker Hughes offices in Italy. Frankly, if you haven't got the video interview invite and you applied before October, take a breather and get Baker Hughes out of your mind until at least next year.

GeoAlpha, the truth is that you would have little or zero chance of being employed outside the country you have the legal right to work. In few cases, research candidates can get sponsorship in countries abroad probably in the R and D. I personally had my masters in Brunei and wasn't considered after a successful phone interview. Don't give up, try other coy.

I am not Italian but Liberian. I have the right to work in Italy where i study. it is in their law.
however, i understand your point and thanks. I am just surprised because the latest update of my applications is that of Brunei darrusalam.

I guess it is completed because you checked your account using your cellphone.
If you check it using a PC it will display Evaluation in Progression.

By the way, where are you from?

Now I understand why the final interview was postponed. .it was supposed to take place in Port - Gentil on the 4th and 5th of Decemberrespectivrly. We received emails where we were asked to fill a form and a passport photo, we did that and when those days arrived, nothing happened. The reason was then because other people from gabon, like you were still waiting. .that makes sense to me now.
I studied in south - africa.
