excell12go: HOW DOES THE GOVERNMENT INTEND TO PULL THIS THROUGH? THE RATIO OF DOCTORS TO PATIENTS IN NIGERIA IS FAR BELOW WHO STANDARD AND ALL THE GOVT CAN DO IS SACK 16,000 DOCTORS. And besides, with the supposed suspension of residency training, are newly graduated doctors expected to resume work immediately without even a mere house man ship I laugh... The govt had better start building mortuaries. :-/

other than for surgeries where some still forget instruments in your stomach, these guys know no better than most of us.i haven't seen any doctor in the past at least 20 years. The secret for me is simple. While I try to be careful about my health, I google any symptoms I have, I get the exact kind of drugs I need at the right prescriptions, buy across the counter at standard pharmaceutical shops and whabam, I am as strong as a fiddle. The doctors don't even know enough to determine with any precision what my issues may be. They prescribe all sorts, ask you come back after some days so they can check whether their trial and error worked.if it did not work, they will make another trial thereby turning one into a guinea pig of sorts. Even tests are not final, as the doctors themselves will ask you to seek a second opinion and even a third. They should go and die with their overbloated ego and sense of importance. E don be for them. They should hit d streets and search for the ever evasive jobs

This Minister started the chaos in the Health sector. Everything was "ok" till he came in and destabilized the system. JOESHU asked for his removal then but it was seen as beef.

Now its clear he is a mess up and a disgrace to NMA. The world will be wondering if the health minister of a country could be talking/acting trash, how will her medical workers be.

As for residency, the govt is just flexing muscle, it will be resolved "soon". But Docs should learn that when negotiating, you win some and lose some.
No profession in Nigeria is paid what it deserves, mayb politics(that's if it passes as a profession)
So Docs should relax and accept the offer for now to fight anoda day or they will keep shooting themselves on the foot.

But as for protesting, I wonder who advised them to do so. This one na big mess up

it is unfortunate that people do not realize that neither Jonathan nor his cohorts will suffer from this, they will easily go abroad to get treated, after all they are known to go abroad just to monitor their blood pressure. We obviously do not understand what this means. Even "simple" things like Caesarian section, removal of cataracts (surgeries generally) etc will be a thing of the past. Why?? because the expertise will not be there. Medical and Dental schools will also be history. Then we will start importing doctors the same way we import rice (this is currently being done in some northern states). Meanwhile Jona and his people would not have suffered a thing, afterall they can travel out.

@ Hardybody >> I like the fact that you have not visited a Doc in the past 20 years. I hope you will still say the same thing when you are sixty. I also hoope that none of your relatives or loved ones has visited a doc too. To say that Doc do not know much more than non-doctors is like saying that the architect has no role in erecting a building........truly a face me i face u may not require his expertise. I must assume that you said that because u are simply disappointed by the docs

hmmmmm though what they demanded for is 2 much but if we look at it other way round, Nigeria Govt put dis on theirslvz by paying so much to themslvz for just sitting and without contributing any meaningful thing to the country in the name of legislating, a country where a president budgeted , (feeding) over 1billion naira, a country where governor want life pension for himslf over 100million for just medical treatment, a country where our oil which is the major source of revenue is secured by criminals and being paid billions of naria, a country where a minister used 10billion naira 4 Chartered flight 4 a year, a country where few individul collecting subsidy without importing, a country where minister used public money 2 buy herslef cars worth of millions naira, a country where we have ordinary stealling, a country where 20, 10 billions missing and they still cant be specific on the amount missing but agreed that sum amount is missing, they have done nothing 2 help this great country but enriching their pocket, a country where money given to people to sleep over 15milion to sleep and play game or gist btwen theirslz for more than 4 months now without any result, if doctors who are to safe lives cant be paid millions then criminals shouldnt get it....i noticed in Nigeria everybody using their power 2 enrich theirslvz, Niger Delta Militant, boko haram, Lecturers, The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), labour congress, now doctors, its more like using ur tools 2 get what u want....since dis Govt dont know how 2 steal coded, they loot openly without fear which is clear to everybody......sharing money like water......thats just my own thought about the whole poo in my loving country......everybody fight for their pocket once they settle them u wont hear anything again....God bless Nigeria and give us a leader with fear of God

Good call Mr president, u got dis one right. Most nigerian doctors regard medicine as business. How many of d clinics where they carry out their private practice ar well equipped?. How come dat western doctors who were trained under d best of conditions wit d most sophisticated equipments leave d comfort of Europe to come & work in rural Africa under dis same conditions dat dis poorly trained nigerian doctors feel is beneath them. Medicine is a calling. Boot dem out so they can go get better paying jobs. Just like u, we ar fed up wit dis perpetual strike nonsense.

Who do you think signed the memo, it was the permanent secretary on behalf of the dishonourable minister.

Besides GEJ knows nothing about the details of residency training, it the minister's advice that will guide him.

I beg to differ. Give him a little credit, he does have a PhD in sciences you know.

Sincere9gerian: This is what you get in a society that encourages EVIL. When ASUU was on strike for 6 months and were collecting salaries and moving from one TV station to another defending that evil strike, most Nigerians cheered them on. I was one of the very few voices that opposed the ASUU strike.

Well, since ASUU succeeded with the connivance of the larger society, you should expect other labour unions to also follow suit.

NMA has always cited the ASUU example to justify it's current strike.

Every society should learn to live with evil or monster it creates.

Labour unionism has been elevated to a very lucrative business and an alternative govt in Nigeria.

Strike is not the only approach for pressing for demands by these labour unions, especially in a democracy, but they have all adopted strikes because of laziness.

I dont support this point of view,i think the doctors deserve everything they are asking for.

PointB: Before we get swayed by the doctors tantrum, let's not lose sight of their 24 key demand.

Summary of the doctors demands:

1. Create more offices (and more money) for us
2. Don't send anyone to monitor the money
3. Skip level 12, we can't wait to collect more money
4. Refer to Nos 2
5. Pay us 22 years areas of some money, and then increase our wage
6. Expand the health bill so we can make more money
7. Appoint one of us surgeon general so that he can protect us and fight for our money
8. Adjust our level so that we can make more money
9. Increase our call duty allowance by 90%
10. Adjust upward our specialist allowance
11. Increase our hazard allowance from 5k/mnth to 100k/mnth
12. Release circular showing our allowances, all of us must be included
13. When we need to import In-Vitro Diagnostics, IVDs equipment, we don't want knowledgeable institution to check/license it.
14. Tell us our retirement age (obviously they don't want to retire, more money to be made in active duty)
15. We want more funding for our residency training
16. For peace to reign pay our colleagues in Owerri what you agreed
17. We must continue to enjoy the goodies in IPPIS platform
18. Attempt to prevent our collective bargaining (for more money) will be resisted
19. Lab scientist should stop intimidating us (we are the big boys, we make more money)
20. Stop short paying us for any reason (we want all our money in full)
21. Do for us what they do for doctors abroad
22. Set aside more money to furnish our offices (hospitals)
23. Medical director must be a medical doctor (It can not be a pharmacist, dentist, and never a lab scientist). We must chop alone
24. Stop violating our 2009 agreement. Pay us our money!!

There you have it. The two dozen demands of our doctor in plain language. The demands causing our brethren to die at home, and in hospital while doctors stay away. These are the demands making our people to resort to bathing and drinking salt water to death, as they run scare of Ebola Virus Disease, while our doctors prefer to stay at home and wait for their money.

Our doctors have sworn to protect their moneys, while our collective health is the ransom! If gold can rust, pray, what will happen to Iron?

This list is quite revealing and interesting.
I think they should take their protest to the National Assembly if they need more pay. That's where OUR SINators and representaTHIEVES collect nearly N30 million monthly shocked shocked for doing NOTHING of benefit to us the suffering tax payers and on whose behalf the government receives taxes and royalties from oil companies.

The good thing about all of this is that.....when the game is over, THE DOCTOR will still smile last.
The sack is a joke of course.
There's no hospital that is running, no Federal Hospital at least.
Let the simpleton keep beating the war drums and setting precedence.....it all goes around.
It's unlikely you'll find an unemployed Doctor anywhere in the country...he might be dissatisfied with his job but definitely not jobless.
Jonathan can be very stubborn and we all know that... the subsidy case, UNILAG to MAULAG is a case study.
The ASUU strike is still fresh. With all the posturing and all...he'll still bend backwards.
I'm sure the chorus then will be that the Doctors begged but the important thing is to look closely at the 24 point request and you'll be surprised that most of those requests will be granted. This sack is a diversion just to fool the uninformed.
THE END IS MORE IMPORTANT

Lol I laugh at people who do not understand what is going on. People do not hate doctors, what you are seeing is that you are dealing with a president who had recruited and paid legions to crush whatever discuss against him online. So you will be naive to assume that the opinion here represent the general public, far from it. Majority do not think through the merit or demerits of this action, what they are concerned with is how does this action affect s the chances of their paymaster vis a vis 2015 election.

From that day, I swear never to cross general hospital.

It's pathetic that you seem not to know the negative inpact the prolonged strike has on the nation's health care system. Just imagine a scenario where you stepped out of your house in the morning on your way to work and got involved in a ghastly motor accident, you were rushed to the accident and emergency unit of one the federal teaching hospitals unconscious having lost so much blood, and no doctor was on ground to revive you. Unfortunately, you may not be alive to even understand the fact that a lab technician could not help you at that point of distress. FYI, I'm a die hard supporter of Jonathan's administration.

I dont see any sense in the doctors in lagos taking to the.it just shows some level of unprofessionalism, you can imagine the ASUU members taking to the street and protesting against a government made up of dishonourable men and incompetent mofo.s. - common you guys are senior officers.I will imploy all doctors to :

1.Remain calm, dont talk too much or appear to be pertubed by the government misguided decission-just like we resolved here in the emergency general meeting we had at our own state chapter.

2.Ensure that nobody accept any sack letter or sign up for any locum(foolish government- you are fighting with an association yet you ask her members to come and take up temporary job with you, i thought the government will be inviting alliens from space to replace the doctor or better still the president could have mobilize the herbalist from Otueke to fill-up the doctors spaces.

3.We should remain resolute, develop an internal mechanism to ensure we minimize the negative impact the the suspension,if possible do other things to generate extra income. take up locum with your colleague and seniors-everyone is throwing their support behind the residents.we need to send a message to the government that we are not discomposed by their sack threat. then we shall see who blinks first.
