It may not be a means to a perfect end, but a US passport holder can travel visa-free to over 100 countries grin
Peeps that can afford it here can always travel to any country of their wish. And how does travelling to over a hundred countries visa-free dispute the fact that a large bulk of the population are living from hand to mouth irrespective of the overhyped Capitalism they worship?Living in well tiled roads and skyscrapers doesn't change the fact that you're still hungry. tongue

And how many Americans actually travel?

I've met Americans that haven't left their place of birth until their 26th birthday.

I'm not making any comparison to the standard of living but the truth remains that I've seen Americans shedding tears when Nigeria refused to renew their visas to enable them keep their 5 weeks in 5 weeks out well paid job here in the oil and gas sector. tongue

Question: These people that were discharged, is it that they had the virus and got better and were discharged?....OR...they were suspected to have the virus, isolated, found that they never had the virus and then discharged??

IF the answer is the former, what drug(s) did they use for treatment?

This is the best time for us to think, most especially the next set of people who will be governing the nation in the nearest future.

We must not be auto-dependent on any nation, we should be able to think of the best use of our resources and ability, we can earn more respect to restore our glory and attribute more importance to our nation (ourselves).

Believe in yourself and do things rightly, if you do it right and I do it the right way, Nigeria will automatically do it right and be respected.

I thank God, the Ebola cases started in a state where we have a visionary leader who can set pace for other to follow (please don't consider this as Pol Campaign), for Nigeria to have been able to stop the spread of the Ebola virus some people have done their work right, on which note our nation is been respected (sincerely of otherwise) and we deserve it.

I think we deserve more respect and we can achieve it.

Regards.

lamiobo: I don't know why but I have a feeling that USA had a play or plan in spreading the virus in Nigeria.lets access the situation clearly sawyer the American /liberian citizen traveled from USA to visit his sister who is diagnosed for EVD after realising he has been infected...he didn't return to his family (USA) but traveled to Nigeria for better medical attention (according to his wife)thus infecting the Nigerians who came in contact with him eg the ecowas official and nurse who took care of him, now being logical.is Mr sawyer aware of his conditions before travelling? does USA have better medical facilities than Nigeria? why did he choose to travel to Nigeria? undecided

while i agree that Mr. Sawyer's actions were misguided, we should realise that sick people dont make the best decisions. Imagine a woman with brest cancer not going to see a doctor till all the bweast is consumed and the tumor has spread to other parts of the body. America is a superpower - what will they gain from infecting NIGERIA with ebola? If it was china, maybe i could understand. But NIGERIA??, with the fairly open border between USA and Nigeria?
And besides, if USA wanted to infect Nigeria, it wont do such a shoddy job of sending Mr. Sawyer only for him to collapse at the airport. I strongly believe Mr. Sawyer did not act on the directive of the state but on his own whims.

How did the USA collaborated with Nigeria on Ebola Virus Disease fight?

They were simply waiting there to mock Nigeria and possibly blacklist our country with some nonsense no-travel advisory warning to their citizens had their initial plan succeeded.

Then they would have come up with one vaccine laced with what only God knows, to further their agenda among the population.

The plan was a biotech wipe-out strategy similar to HIV/AIDS in South Africa and Botswana. Two black countries that have been significantly tested with massive disorientation programs resulting in loss of self pride and sheep-like mental abilities.

The plan failed woefully because of the vigilance of Nigerians.

But they won't stop. They will attempt another method sooner or later.

We want to warn the USA. This is Nigeria. This is not Cuba or South Africa. It's better to give up and face your own genocidal culture of killing black people in your country.

We believe in God here!

inteli: The US government has commended the Nigerian government and its health authorities for their handling of the Ebola virus since it broke in Lagos last month.

The US’ commendation came on the back of more good news yesterday that four more patients who had contracted the disease had been discharged and declared free of the infectious disease.

With their discharge, this brings the total number of people who have been given the all clear to five.
A total of 12 people were struck with the virus in Nigeria, including the index case Patrick Sawyer, of which four have died, five have been discharged while three remain in the isolation ward at the Infectious Disease Hospital, Yaba, Lagos.

However, all hopes that the US would send the ZMapp experimental drug to Nigeria were dimmed yesterday when the US government ruled out the possibility, saying there were insufficient quantities of the drug available.
Making this known when he visited the Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, in Abuja, the US Ambassador to Nigeria, James Entwistle, informed reporters that what was needed was to focus primarily on isolation and the screening of patients or those suspected to have contracted the virus.

According to Entwistle: “We’ll see down the road what is possible. But there are no huge quantities now. And we think the focus now needs to be on exactly what you are doing: the isolation wards, screening, and especially important that now your government is doing a very good job on this, that is contact tracing.”
The envoy said he just came back from the US late last week, adding, “I was in Washington, of course, for the US-African Leaders Summit and I came over to see the minister right away as soon as I got back into town to discuss our anti-Ebola cooperation.

“I was in the room in Washington when Vice President (Joe) Biden and President (Goodluck) Jonathan talked about the Ebola crisis, talked about our partnership, and pledged the total cooperation between your government and my government on this issue.

“So I just came over to see the minister this morning to talk to him about that and you’ve all seen the headlines over the weekend. This is an issue where we have to keep working hard. It may last for a while but there are some encouraging signs.

“The Emergency Operation Centre (EOC), I understand, is working well. The isolation ward, I understand, is working well. So this is an example we have, as part of the broad partnership between our two countries, just keep collaborating and cooperating and keep working hard.”

While commending Nigeria for effectively curtailing the spread of the Ebola virus, Entwistle stated: “I noticed that when I flew back on Thursday night into this country, before I left the plane, I filled out a questionnaire.
“I was very impressed because I even had to put my seat number which is a very good idea. So if you ever have to trace the guy sitting next to me you know where I am. So I have been impressed by these things and I encourage the government of Nigeria to keep at it as I know they will.

“I always say we have a broad partnership between our two countries which means we do things together as equals to make the world a better place. I can’t think of a more important example today than our Ebola cooperation.”

Chukwu, on his part, said the visit came at the right time considering the need for collaboration between the two countries, specifically on the Ebola virus.
Chukwu said as the representative of the US government, the envoy will assist in various ways in the prevention of the virus from spreading further.

The minister referred to the US ambassador as the spokesperson for the US government in Nigeria, adding, “So he came to me as the chief public health officer of the country, because that is what the Minister of Health is, to exchange views with me on the collaboration with America.

Four Patients Discharged

The minister also disclosed that four additional patients were yesterday discharged and declared free of the infectious disease.
In a statement in Abuja, Chukwu said the development was a good omen for Nigeria, taking into cognisance the devastation the virus had caused in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia.

GenBuhari: Some say USA has the patent on Ebola.

I am asking the following questions simply because I want to understand (they not rhetorical questions to make any point):

What does US having the patent for Ebola mean?

Does it mean that USA discovered it?

Are all diseases discovered patented?

You could go through these patent applications and see the efforts in combating ebola so far...
NB: I didn't see any application for "ebola virus" itself.

The Ambassador was just making a comment about the Nigerian govt has handled the situation so far. That's his opinion.

Man, I hate how the newspapers try to use sensationalist headlines to draw readers. Instead of saying that the US Ambassador commended the Ministry of Health for its handling of the crisis, they decided to use "U.S commends Nigeria" as if most Americans even care or even know about what goes on in naija.

The only positive thing about this Ebola issue is that it has shown us how daft the majority of contributors to Nairaland are.

The patients didn't get better because we gave them any special medicine. Even in Sierra Leone that has inferior medical facility to Nigeria's, the mortality rate was around 60%. So basically, 4 out of every 10 patients survived without any special treatment.
The nano-silver is no more effective than bathing with saltwater, and it represents an extremely embarrassing situation for Nigeria to announce a topical treatment of average value as a drug to be consumed by patients.

The US could not give Nigeria zmapp because

1. zmapp is the IP of a private American company, not the US govt. Appealing to Obama makes no sense.

2. From the start , it's been made clear that only very limited doses were available.

If I had my way, all those shouting conspiracy theories and '419 Ebola' would be rounded up and shot for imbecility.

It's a fallacy.

Vigilant people always know their moves every time. Many of their programs are so opened but because the world has given them the benefit of the doubt for too long, they tend to think the way you are thinking.
