Curlieweed:

The laws against the free cultivation and consumption of cannabis have no basis in logic or even common sense. We will continue ignoring these archaic and illogical laws until our government and elected representatives do the right thing and throw them into the dust heap of history.

Redundant laws like these not only restrict individual rights but because they're routinely ignored by otherwise law abiding citizens contribute to making people "hardened" and blasé towards keeping other societally beneficial laws.

Just legalize it!
Strangest thing is the seeming consensus on the issue. The West said drugs are bad and declared a "war" and the rest of the world followed suit! The "war on drugs" is the most senseless and wasteful endeavour embarked upon by mankind in the modern era. I hope this gathers momentum and change comes eventually.

beejaay: Global Commission on Drug Policy on Tuesday in New York, at its annual meeting, called for a fundamental change of global drug policies and decriminalisation of drug use.

Members of the commission are drawn from political leaders, including, former Brazilian president Fernando Henrique Cardoso, former Mexican president Ernesto Zedillo, former Colombian president Cesar Gaviria, former Swiss president Ruth Dreifuss.

The group also includes former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan and Richard Branson, Founder, Virgin Group.
The commission called for a complete overhaul of the global drug prohibition regime and focus on the promotion of the health and welfare of people instead of continuing to criminalise drug use.

It agreed that there must be an immediate end to punitive enforcement of drug policies, including jail time for non-violent, low-level users and producers of drugs.

The reason they're making millions is the senseless ban. Unban drugs and see the profits fall.

Former world leaders, OP. I'll create a topic to address this issue pretty soon. Stay tuned in to this frequency. But wait! If this happens, getting high will become boring pretty fast; the cool factor will be lost. So what will simpletons do to look cool? They'll probably start killing people to augment the cool factor. Yikes!
