As it stands, it is delusional to think we are independent. It is a criminal madness against humanity to be in a celebration mood when the masses are gravely dissatisfied with our current status in the committee of Nations. I recommend the government should be bold enough to declare October 1 a National Dependence Day (NDD), a day that all well-meaning Nigerians will set aside to reflect on how backward we have come as a Nation, how retrogressive we are as a Nation, and how large the magnitude of scorn we experience in the league of prosperous Nations. Then this reflective mood should be used to launch a path that will emancipate every Nigerian, regardless of tribe, religion or education status. This will hopefully make every Nigerian truly independent! Until every citizen of a Nation is truly, or almost truly, independent (in thinking, in actions, in material or spiritual intellects), there should be no Independence Day. But if we must pretentiously celebrate, let us celebrate HOPE! HOPE that a day shall come that we truly will become independent. And even if we are not, HOPE that those that will live after us shall become independent. donogaga: As October 1st approaches, how will you celebrate this great country?
