U WRONG THERE!!!
who's machines converted ur herbal drugs to tablets? who designed ur syringe?
get this...medicine is fixed, no creativity........in engineering, we combine the beauty of arts and the Heavenly tool called Mathematics to change things as challenges portray themselves

doctors do nothing, infact GOD HEALS, THE DOC TAKES THE FEE angry

remember...God was first an electrical/engineering....let there be light

..........engineering rules
Guy, relax... A corper Doctor is saving life... He has already been trained on that during house manship.
A corper engineer can't produce anything. A graduate of Electrical engineering can't even wire a house. A corper Mechanical engineer can't change a car's plug.
So why do you want to end like Doctors?
Doc spent 6yrs in sch, plus 1yr house manship before coming to service... that's 7yrs. Engineers spent 5yrs.
We Doctors deserve more than these peanuts treatment.

Lolz..... After reading the comments here I realize that the already or aspiring Med guys are feeling like "Chairmen" pls don't get it twisted in naija we only enjoy God's grace and favor cos I've seen M.B.B.S doc strolling all round the state in search for job/placement after almost 8yrs of study. Just believe in yourself and be very much hard-working irrespective of the professional courses, if you believe it u can achieve it.

you made it to fp for a reason! nice advice wink

All over the world its no more "News" that these two field of career are both professional fields especially when it comes to practicing it in full scale. But its so saddened here in my country (Nigeria) the way Medical Student(Pharmacists,Nurses, Medical Lab Scientist and Doctors) are being given mouth watery treatment on NYSC service ground and the future Engineers are being treated like idiots.

Infact in Benue State where I'm serving Med Guys are paid like 60k @ppa, 30k @state level followed with 3bedroom flats of Doctors quarters(free of charge) nd 19k of allawee compared with an Engineering Student sent to primary or secondary school with 2k@ ppa and just your 19k of allawee with no accommodation even if you had a First Class(B.Eng) in school. With this sad experience I thing the Engineering Bodies in this country (NSE nd COREN) are allowing our government to cheat us big time.

Med Guys make sure life of human is sustained but Engineers make life so comfortable for humans, we are everywhere going great things all around the world...

1. Automobile industry
2. Air-Condition and Refrigeration(Plasma air-con,doing great)
3. Electronics Devices (Mobile Devices,Laptops etc)
4. ICT and Telecommunications
5. Provision of Electricity(even if its still Bad, but Med Guys can't still do d job if not trained Engineers)
6. Biotechnology (Engineering coming into Medicine)
7. Architects, Civil Engineers and Builders
8. AeroNautical Engineers (Aircraft Engineers)
9. Marine Engineers

Just to mention a few now tell me, would you say its fair after all these areas of specialisation we (the upcoming Engineers) should be badly treated?
I am mech engr guy.
yes, u are right to an extent because d money/ difference luks quite large but u need to hear dis.
First, engineers need to involve in more sound practicals/research in university.
Secondly, Engineers need to spend, at least, a year in 'Engineering school' (an equvalent of medical sch) in intensive technical/innovative work.
The govt need to provide/invest in reseach institute, which will help in engineer in a great way.
This is d fight NSE/COREN suppose to take on with d federal govt so d engineers are posted in an engineering firms during NYSC, bt i dont think dey exist or no there duties at all.
Truely, engineers need more recognition n appreciation, nt only in nigeria bt d whole world-wide.
My respect to all engineers in d house.......u ppl make lyf more enjoyable in a fascinating way.

Who produces the Equipment you use? And where were you told Engineers can't do all those things you mentioned. I am a Mechanical Engineer and my design here in the state is what what oil companies and Nuclear power plants are using to sustain the country. Even in Nigeria, you think all the calls you make or the car you drive are handled by medical doctors? Mind you I was first a product of a Nigerian University before coming here to work as an Engineer.

So NYSC salary is your problem? You expect doctors after earning 200k as an intern to settle for 20k?
Everybody nowadays is just concerned over money even at ppa. While you're at it, create a thread on the medical rehab, medical lab, radiography, etc cos they also earn more.

Just face your own service and strive to earn more than the doctors
when you're done than to be whining over something they deserve and YES THEY DO!!!!
this is full of 5hit.

@op, when medical student are busy reading during/after session , where are engineering student ?
Whe Doctors are busy at work during strike, public holiday and night duty, where are the engineers ?
Where are the engineers when the Docs are using part of their hard earned money to cater for some patients ?
Where are the NSE/COREN , when NMA/NVMA/NMDCN are disucssing the future with govt ?
Where are the engineers when the Docs are been woken up in the middle of the night to attend to their enemies/friends ?
Where are the enginners when the Docs have an accidental injury ?
Where are the engineers when the Docs are giving real bite from relation of the patient that dies ?
Guy, no time for story , just face your work and leave the medical field alone.

I quite understand your point, even though I'm a health worker. It's truly unfair, not just for engineers, but all other professionals. The issue is that there are not enough govt owned engineering firms to absorb the numerous thousands of engineering graduates yearly. Mind you that corps members including doctors are expected to be employed majorly in govt owned institutions.
Even if they allow private engineering firms to start taking up engineering graduates, it may have a negative toll on future employment of engineers, as many firms will want to employ more corps members for cheaper labour. That will worsen the unemployment situation.
It boils down to the fact that Nigeria is not technologically driven. As more industries spring up, the demand for engineers will also increase, which will favour even corps members too.

Wow!! For me, This is the best comment soo far so articulated and very well thought before putting up a write-up. Infact only you got my point so far, God bless you Sir!!
Re: The "BIG" Gap Between Engineering And Medical Students! by sexyjob(m): 2:47pm On Oct 07, 2014
At NYSC level, the Corper doctor deserve better pay and conditions. This is not to justify the happenstance that Corper engineers should be treated poorly. All corpers deserve fair treatment. Most doctors get fair pay while they practice. Some engineers get mouth watering pay. For instance, as a Graduate Engineer in Chevron, NLNG, Mobil and other coys in their rank go home with over a million naira monthly. If you had a 2:1 or First Class in your first degree and you get an MSc in some choice schools like IPS, IFP School, Imperial College, Stanford etc. Your chances of getting into those coys increases. With and MSc in Petroleum Engineer and Project Development at IPS/IFP School, MSc Petroleum Geoscience at Imperial, MSc Petroleum Engineering at Stanford and related schools I could bet your chances of hitting it big would almost be unity. Engineers in Oil and Gas coys don't have time for these talk about doctors did this and nurses did that.

My Advice:
Doctors continue your good work.
Engineers continue your good work.
Other professionals keep on doing your good work.

Regards all

Blame it on COREN and NSE, they ve relegated demselves to just collecting dues and looking for contracts from govt forgetting their primary aim. They are amongst the most corrupt bodies in Nigeria, they are useless.......even after passing COREN exams what is in it for u? Useless people.

I'm sorry, my guy, because out of everything you wrote, I only understood the first sentence. Every other thing you wrote either made no sense to me or had no bearing to what I posted earlier (which you quoted).

I have not said any profession deserves to be looked down on. But when you decide to compare two professions, do a holistic comparison. Don't compare the "blessings" and ignore the "sufferings"

Lastly, you don't graduate from med school in Nigeria with a Doctor of Medicine (first) degree. Educate yourself better.

Ciao.

Thanks for your understanding.
