I have heard these arguments over and over again but its just a simple answer. Doctors were trained to work in the hospital and during NYSC they work in the hospital thus they are being paid as a professional with expert service. On the other hand, you went to university to become an engineer but instead of working in an engineering firm, you are teaching mathematics and physics in a classroom. Also, don't be myopic because of NYSC. Love your work and find fulfilment in it. May God crown our efforts.

Who built the equipment doctors use? Who built the equipment that the people that built the equipment the doctor uses used. Who discovered the science behind building the equipment? Who taught the person that discovered the science the science? Who originated knowledge? Who did this, who did that?

Rubbish arguments.

Chairman lets not deceive ourself.how many of those gadgets u mention can be produce in Nigeria by a Nigerian engineer.I guess none.so we got a long way to go. grin

All over the world its no more "News" that these two field of career are both professional fields especially when it comes to practicing it in full scale. But its so saddened here in my country (Nigeria) the way Medical Student(Pharmacists,Nurses, Medical Lab Scientist and Doctors) are being given mouth watery treatment on NYSC service ground and the future Engineers are being treated like idiots.

Infact in Benue State where I'm serving Med Guys are paid like 60k @ppa, 30k @state level followed with 3bedroom flats of Doctors quarters(free of charge) nd 19k of allawee compared with an Engineering Student sent to primary or secondary school with 2k@ ppa and just your 19k of allawee with no accommodation even if you had a First Class(B.Eng) in school. With this sad experience I thing the Engineering Bodies in this country (NSE nd COREN) are allowing our government to cheat us big time.

Med Guys make sure life of human is sustained but Engineers make life so comfortable for humans, we are everywhere going great things all around the world...

1. Automobile industry
2. Air-Condition and Refrigeration(Plasma air-con,doing great)
3. Electronics Devices (Mobile Devices,Laptops etc)
4. ICT and Telecommunications
5. Provision of Electricity(even if its still Bad, but Med Guys can't still do d job if not trained Engineers)
6. Biotechnology (Engineering coming into Medicine)
7. Architects, Civil Engineers and Builders
8. AeroNautical Engineers (Aircraft Engineers)
9. Marine Engineers

Just to mention a few now tell me, would you say its fair after all these areas of specialisation we (the upcoming Engineers) should be badly treated?

THEY HAVE THE PREFIX ENGR BEFORE THEIR NAMES AS DR FOR DOCTORS.
WHAT SHOULD THE ACCOUNTANTS SAY?
is there no engineer with a phD(Doctoroate degree)?

Bro! I am an engineering graduate, so I understand your concern. However if you understand the demand and supply relationship, I don't think Nigerian Doctors should be compared to the Nigerian engineers in terms of their demand as Nigeria engineer virtually produces nothing but practice their professions mostly as technicians or project managers.

The folks I pitty the most are the scientist which I regard as the basis for all medical or technological innovations.

Would people die in all these building collapses if qualified civil engineers were used?

The body has natural immunity, antibodies, leutocytes and natural healing capabilities.

But buildings don't build themselves!
Vehicles don't manufacture themselves!
The electrocardiogram and defibrillator used in monitoring and restoring vitals are products of elect. Engrs.
Their surgical blades are products of production engrs.

What is modern medicine without engineering?!

Engineers should be treated fairly! angry

maybe if the ill structured buildings u guys put up Fails and collapse, and having severed someone's limb, the natural immunity, and leukocytes u talked about will stitch him up

Very very interesting topic

Like when I was arguing with my doctor friend, I told him; you as a doctor while treating a patient, u might make a fatal mistake and that will just be the end with the patient. You pack the corpse and move on to the next

As an engineer, I can't do that. I male mistakes like doctors, but I have to fix it in the end. You don't throw a multi million naira machine off just because someone made a mistake on it......I'm still gonna get it fixed

You need engineer, that's why we have biomedical engineers. Before now, did you care to know who designed and built the machine and devices you use in your field? If yes, you won't say we should leave your field alone. In advanced countries, devices and robots are being designed to administer drugs directly to where it is needed in the body and to perform surgical operations. With advancements in BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING, common doctors will soon be relegated to nothing. Mark my words

There is no gainsaying the fact that we have got it compleatly wrong when it comes to remuneration in Nigeria, but things will sort themselves out! As things are a lot of people are either studying medicine or making sure their children study it, the result will be the fact that we will have far more doctors than we will need and be able to pay and it will cause a chain reaction, at that point government would be forced to correct its errors
i dont see that happening in the next two centuries. Check the doctor to patient ratio in Nigeria and you'll be appalled.

You are on point, engineers do all the work....... Inventing and manufacturing the tools/equipments used by the doctors to DO THEIR COPY AND PASTE JOB,which in most cases is trial and error. Engineers build the the structures....land/space structures(air crafts),engineers make sure we have oil to run our plants, cars etc
