raumdeuter:they see opportunities the people there fail to see....its strictly on a business level.....an igbo man would even live in somalia provided it is good for business.....I am igbo....and was abit surprised when my fellow igbo friend was talking about business in Vietnam....I was like...seriously?? That its more lucrative than china....was surprised though....because you have a sizable population of igbos even in the remotest of places in the SW doesn't mean that there isn't development there........if the federal govt should make onitsha FCT and develop the place faster thÀn Dubai, we would still have igbos in Ekiti and Ilesha.... 6 Likes |

raumdeuter: Igbo people are in Ekiti and Osun for pilgrimage and tourism, at least this is what they've been struggling so hard to tell anyone who care to listen. Let them continue to live in self denial, the truth is that some of them living outside their enclave can't spend 2weeks in that place before bailing out again. Only the old ones will agree to stay in the homeland the young ones will rather escape to God knows where, honestly speaking these indeed are strange people. 1 Like |

Igbos that are not living in their lands have 3 threads running and daily upload of mouthwatering pictures, you that are in your fatherland cant boast of any except lagos which a no man's land and a FG enclave. If you think your staying in your Ibadam, Abeokuta and Oshogbo ghettos open thread and supply daily pictures like those that you claim are staying in your land. animal. Stop claiming your living in yorubaland, i myself is living in Lagos not a yorubaland, you too is living in lagos not a yorubaland, so what makes us different from people that are living outside their land. am from Ede in Osun State, i must say the truth 7lives: 1 Like |

Hello people, Can we look at it this way? A life of average Igbo families leaving in d west and a life of an average Yoruba families also leaving in their land...looking at it this way- *One is paying for a house rent with no land to cultivate either food or grains to bring his expenses down while the later have those items to enjoy. *Most of the Igbo families will tend to send their kids to d best schools in town while most of his Yoruba neighbors may opted out for public schools due to government incentives as an indigen. Now lets compare an average igbo guy vs his Yoruba counterpart ....fill dis one. In all,Igbos go to where there's opportunities, where there's lope holes to fill the gap and grab the opportunity inorder repatriate the profit back home. That's why an igbo adage say-Aku ruo ulo okwuo ebe osi...which means when a wealth reaches home it will tells where to comes from. This is why every igbo guy will first off take his profit and gains to his village before any other thing. 1 Like |

raumdeuter:now your adding technicalities. As I said and will keep saying the sw and ss have bigger economies than the se but not more development. Human migration to bigger markets or places where theres openings to make money doesn't imply level of development at all as history and modern day has proven. Somalia opened its first atm last week. If today I leave abuja to go to somalia to sell atm machines because of the gap in their market does this mean somalia has surpassed abuja? Let be rational please. 1 Like |

Ikengawo: If you open both Nigerian and Somalian border and allow free movement of people, with minimal travel cost and visa issues, Which direction do you think the human traffic would flow more. The same reason Ghanaian flooded to Nigeria in the 70's Your example shows you are taking money to Somalia to open a business, Over 75% of Ibos leave their region with only a Ghana must go bag, barely into their teens. meaning they came to other regions with nothing unlike the example you gave 1 Like |

achi4u:you're 100% right. Igbos go where theres openings for opportunity. I was born in the us be im currently relocating to nigeria because theres more opportunity for business. If I want to be comfortable id stay in the US but thats not in our nature. I know igbos that have gone to borno at the height of boko haram because food shortages there were a big business opportunity 1 Like |

Ikengawo: You keep talking about Isolated cases. Surely there are Americans who travel to Somalia even some are still travelling to Afghanistan as we speak We are talking about the net migratory pattern Are there more Americans travelling to Nigeria or more Nigerians travelling to AMerica? Go to both embassies in both countries and take stock That is the crux of the matter not the isolated one man somewhere. There are more Ibos travelling to SW or SS than the reverse and it only follows logic that animals move away from poverty to prosperity |

Re: The Six Geographical Regions In Nigeria in Order Of Development by Ikengawo: 12:57am On Oct 20, 2014 |
raumdeuter:they start businesses with a ghana must go bag? Many of the igbos youre referring to go to lagos to work for an established family member or hometown family friend. After working for that person the individual is given his own money to start his own business in the same trade and the cycle continues. So because theres 1 igbo yhat makes it, next year he'll employ three, then they'll employ 9 and so forth. If that one original igbo went to afghanistan he will do the exact same thing. Nobody gets on a bus lands in lagos and starts wandering around upon arrival. Its employment and apprenticeship All of the americans in ph will not tell you they are there because there's more development nor will igbos in oshogbo. A lot of igbos will manufacture or assemble something then send youths to various towns to sell their goods in shops. The towns people will then assume that person came to them because of development. Because yorubas and most south south people dont have this cultural business pattern the only reason they will move is to be somewhere more comfortable. There's no country where economic refugees are richer than locals, but whether you want to admit it or not the average igbo man in ibadan is richer than the average native. This is a pattern that is best represented in my somalia atm analogy 2 Likes |

raumdeuter: There are more igbos travelling to afghanistan than afghans to igboland. As a net number not an isolated pattern so show me why you're using an inconsistent measure of development selectively? There isnt a place on earth that igbos dont have a deficient in migration to. Its our culture and way of doing business. There are american igbo moving to places like china because opportunity. There are igbos born and raised in lagos moving to sokoto. There are many cultures that consistently move to places of less development. Chinese, indians, lebanese and igbos have all shown a consistency in doing this and without irony a consistency in business success. |
Re: The Six Geographical Regions In Nigeria in Order Of Development by Ikengawo: 1:10am On Oct 20, 2014 |
If your theory about poverty to prosperity was true 100% of nigerians would be in Abuja. But the cost of living and economy don't facilitate it and most have found their stake elsewhere for other reasons. There are levels of poverty you would forget existed in nigeria if you only lived in the east. There is poverty a poverty and underdevelopment but you'll never find someone that has to make a home out of trash, mud or live inside of a gutter while in a city. Traveling in the east is business and fad. Igbos like saying they went to this place or that place and pattern their business ventures to allow them to do that. 3 Likes |

raumdeuter: Which bus park? Are there no busses that move from Lagos to east? If you ask me, they are all the same. A bus leaves a city to another with passengers, it does a return journey with other passengers in the reverse direction. Those that claim people move away into poverty should also explain why there is less poverty in the east |

Ikengawo: exactly. igbos, as a matter of fact, like moving to places where devt is scanty or where supply of certain goods and services is deficient, so that they will provide it and make dough from it. A yobe state guy will now look at his anambra guest and conclude anambra is less developed than yobe because the anambrarian is doing businesses In yobe? |

Enugu is still a very big Forest, developing since 1912. the number of criminals in Onitsha is more than the one you will find in hell. abia state the most dirtiest state in west Africa. owerri homes the highest number of prostitutes in Nigeria. and we have five states in south east.so which state exactly is developed in the region? an IBO man's opinion. |

WIZGUY69:Most of igbos going to SW are headed to lagos, just like other Nigerians. Enugu id more developed than Oyo and Ogun, and its populated, contrary to what you might believe. The Igbo population is underated that's why the east is dense and at same time there are many igbos outside the east, going to make money from other places too. An Onitsha man in ekiti is not there because ekiti is better but there may be a supply deficit of a particular product which Onitsha already have in excess. The determiners of Igbo movt is not same as yorubas . Again, the mere fact that igbos succeed in foreign lands hypes their migration, there are actually a lot of yorubas and hausas in Onitsha for eg, but they don't make it as igbos do in their own places, hence they go unnoticed 1 Like |

WIZGUY69: they are all more developed than Ogun, osun, Oyo, ekiti and ondo. Even CBN money distribution analysis and sank deposits have a lot to say. Lagos is the only one in SW with such indices. Enugu,Umuahia and owerri are better planned and look more aesthetic than western capitals. Onitsha and crimes/dirt is a thing of the past if you are a current person. I don't want to discuss the ills of western states and the degree of poverty and ' uncivilization ' ravaging the natives 1 Like |

The more that the population of igbos increase the more the people would travel for business and trade. There are not more igbo people in ibadan than in borno even with the insurgency in borno. The Igbos in jos surpass all the Igbos in the south west except for lagos. Yet both borno and plateau can not compare with enugu or anambra, igbos thrive on distributive trade. Which with the return of electricity is being translated to manufacturing. Nnewi has a bigger economic climate than Ekiti. That there are many Indians in Nigeria does not translate to a weak. Indian economy |
