Nice! I would be doing torts in my second semester. I have done the other two for my first year. Contract is full of shi!t! How I performed excellently in it is still a mystery lmao. Now I'm focusing on commercial law which is similar. Lord help me.
grin The definitions of offer, acceptance, vague and ambiguous clauses could be tricky. I' doing fairly well in that class though.

Common law applies to services, whilst the UCC (in America) applies to the sale of goods. cool

chill, what i mean is that the standard with which ur set wrote and passed the lawsch then is not the same now,in otherwords,if u should give the same answers u gave then in ur script that got u 2.2, my dear,Onadeko's standard which is the cause of the present discontentment will likely leave you at something less. Sad truth, isn't it?

My answer? I wrote Onadeko's paper then. If i recall, we had terrorists in the guys that took as Legal Drafting and Conveyancing. Men who will come and be boasting on how many people couldn't even decipher the requirements of their questions. At any rate are you suggesting that the principles of law and practise have so changed that what they are now teaching you is different from what law practice entails? Do we now approach legal practise from two perspectives; the old and the new school? Your argument and reasoning befuddles even the wise. I now believe that cliche which says where ignorance is bliss, it is folly to be wise. I rest my case sir.

The most painful thing is the grading of students by your lowest score. What kind of grading is that? Those criticizing those that failed, you won't understand. How can someone with a 4.3 GPA from university who borrowed the money for his school fees get to law school and play? He finished with a pass! It is totally unacceptable.

Something has to be done.
Coco, just leave them. There's no point explaining. Even those who don't know a thing about the law school's system are coming here to talk authoritatively.
Its really a pity.

#yes,he was just one lecturer out of many in other campuses who will seat over the exams committee as a whole,he wasn't calling the shots then..

If i recall, we had terrorists in the guys that took as Legal Drafting and Conveyancing. Men who will come and be boasting on how many people couldn't even decipher the requirements of their questions.

#and those dull students still passed?, that speaks better for me that the standard has changed

At any rate are you suggesting that the principles of law and practise have so changed that what they are now teaching you is different from what law practice entails?

#the principles haven't changed, rather the marking scheme has.

Do we now approach legal practise from two perspectives; the old and the new school?

#My friend with a pass was trying to convince his prospective employer that it is,and he sure has an arguement, and he will prove it in practice.

Your argument and reasoning befuddles even the wise.

#hmmmm,dont be amazed,

There are people that failed that are far better than me. There are people that read more than me that failed. Its all good sha. God dey.

this is outrageous. i don't think the standard used in setting their exams and marking their scripts is just, cos the number of peeps who failed is preposterous and ridiculous. I refuse to believe that our legal students are dummies. only those in authority know the evil they did and they must surely incur the wrath of God.

Nigerians n our quick way of pronouncing judgements. Most people ranting about d fallen standards of d nation's education sector don't even have five credits in WEAC. I still believe there is no way 5000 students will fail d bar exams. Any right thinking person would know that. Not mediocres. 'Children of nowadays don't read', Oga show us ur WEAC result. Atleast they r qualified to take d exams.

onadeko is a no nonsense person and he is arguably the best dg law schol has in 25 years.the nigerian public is aware of the existence of law school graduands who cannot speak or write beyond the average.THIS MAN is not into politics and he has always been a merit person. At the young age of 30PLUS he was already the director of public prosecution of gambia.he is not a friend of mine and will in fact be shocked i say this much of him because i personally finds him too officious.

is it now a sin for a man to choose to spend his leave abroad?. is the level of pedestrianism displayed by the complainant not suggestive of the personality of the complainant.let law school send the papers to deans of faculties of law in the countryfor reassesment .WELL DONE MR ONADEKO.my best law school teacher from the days of old. That man no send, thats why they dont like him.

Nigerian students that don't study anymore, all they do is face-booking, twittering and following on twitter, nairalanding, badooing and all sort, less i forget watching telemundo and big brother and now they are crying wolf. i discussed this with a barrister yesterday and he said the Director of Law school is a no nonesense man, he was the director at lagos law school when he was a student there. After buying degrees from our some institutions especially those private universities who dared not fail a student after the huge amount paid as fees, what do they expect. Since they have failed this time, let them study hard to pass next time.

What's the use?, most of them will still end up roaming the courts of law scrambling for cases and affidavits like hungry vultures. I guess its a way of reducing their numbers, lawyers are just getting too many in this country, especially the hungry one.

In the words of Pastor Martin Niemöller
"First they came for the Socialists,
and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade
Unionists, and I did not speak out

Because I was not a Trade
Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and
I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and
there was no one left to speak for me."

I read with gargantuan revulsion the comments most nairalanders have uttered concerning this issue, most of them have not an iota of compunction towards those affected, and rather just let drip from their uninformed brains, vile filled statements, how on earth can such a magnitude of students fail such an exam, I wrote the Bar exams hoping for the best result alas I had a pass and heard about the fall of many a bright student and all some people can do is comment on failure due to social media addiction, this begs the questions:
1. Can indigent students who paid #300,000 and had a degree in their respective law faculties suddenly go lax and fail their exams?
2. Does the social media craze affect students of over 30-35 years who have a little relevance to social media and yet still fail the exams?
3. For those on the hasty generalisation rush, did all the students that failed "sort" or "yansh bribe" their way through the University?

Any Nairalander who can justify these above questions towards the silly statements concerning the mass failure is free to an open debate with me, till then I rest my case...

[quote author=akinsadeez post=27323128]Generally law school Bar finals is known to be one of the hardest professional exams in the whole world. That being said, a situation where 4000 students fail out of 6000 is simply unacceptable. infact it is an indictment of the lecturers who taught the students and the law school system as a whole. It begs the questions whether the lecturers really impacted anything in a majority of the students if 70% of those who took the exams can fail.
The DG has to take a good look at himself. When he was taking over from Tahir Mamman last year, I told my friends just going into law school that they were lucky because he would want the first set under him to do well and the result would consequently generally be very good. Subsequent events however proved me wrong.
The DG reduced the time of MCQ from 60 minutes to 50 minutes without properly informing all the campuses and the students. MCQ that when I was doing mine few years ago, I was hardly able to finish within 60 mins, not to talk of now removing ten minutes from the time. God also knows where and how the DG set the questions. I have a friend who graduated from the university with a 2.1 and who I know to be very intelligent, but he told me that during civil litigation exam, he was basically lost and was counting the ceiling.
The problem is that the new DG is trying at all cost to prove that he is different from the old one and he did this at the expense of the students. To all those who failed, next year will be your year IJN. To those who passed and scaled the tsunami, congrats and welcome to the bar. God ble well said.some persons just come here and blabb wen they don't understand bar finals.only the learned can talk this way.i wrote the exam thank God i passed.i would not blame the lecturers bc i know they did their best.as for the students i know inteligent and bright persons who read thier books and worked hard yet they failed.the DG has to review the marking scheme he used.
Re: Mass Failure In Nigerian Law School by Nobody: 8:30pm On Oct 22, 2014
DrGabbi:
It calls to question the credibility of the exam and the integrity of the other lawyers degree. Could it be that it is only this set that performed poorly or the other sets were equally bad but enjoyed leniency in the marking system. A serious probe into what went wrong should be made. More so, which kind of examiner would take pride in deliberately failing candidates so massively? #Issorai
food for thought.someone tells me he is doing this to improve the standard of the legal professional.how about the terriable lawyers practicing?what would he do about them.if he wants to improve the legal profession it has to start from the university not at the law school.
