How Muazu Ridicule Ali Sheriff! by Nobody: 11:35pm On Oct 24, 2014
The National Chairman of Peoples Democratic
Party, PDP, Adamu Muazu fell short of telling
former Governor of Borno State, Ali Modu Sheriff
that he was not wanted in PDP when the former
Governor presented himself at the Wadata Plaza,
headquarters of the PDP in Abuja on Tuesday,
October 21, 2014.

After rescheduling Sheriff’s declaration from 11am
to 4pm and later 4:30pm, Muazu said at his
presentation, according to a source present at the
meeting, that Sheriff had all through his political
life been the one taking decisions on behalf of
others but his coming to the PDP would be the
first time he would have to subject himself to
others because the PDP has rules in which no one
individual decides for the party but rather, it is the
party that decides for its members no matter how
highly placed any member can be.

Muazu addressed Sheriff thus, according to the
source: “Alhaji Ali, all through you have been the
one lording over other people in political parties
but here in PDP,no body can lord over the party,
even the President subjects himself to the party
because PDP is a people driven party, it is driven
by the will of the people and not anybody. In PDP
unlike other parties where you have been, you have
to subject yourself to the party. We have rules in
PDP, we respect seniority. I was a Governor in
1999 and you became a Governor in 2003,
therefore I am your senior. We will not allow
anybody dictate to us in PDP. The issue of waiver
for you and your group to contest is not
automatic. We will not treat waiver for you as a
group, each person has to apply and we will treat
every application on its own merit and not as a
group. This is the rule of PDP and we have to
abide by that rule”.

The source said Sheriff wasn’t comfortable with
Muazu’s remarks and when it was time for the
former Governor to respond, he said, “the issue of
waiver wasn’t what we agreed with Mr President,
the President said waiver is automatic for us, this
is what we agreed”.

Muazu, the source said, interrupted Sheriff and
said, “it appears someone here doesn’t understand
English, let me say it Gwari-Gwari (simple
vernacular), waiver is not automatic and it is
applied for through all processes from ward, local
government, State, zonal and then to the National
Executive Committee levels and every application
is for one individual and it is treated on its own
merit, waiver is not given to a group of persons,
this is the rule in PDP not in other political parties.
In PDP, the party has rules and the rules are
people driven, not individual driven. This is what I
said”.

The source said Sheriff, in company of some of his
associates had a low spirit after the meeting. The
group decided to visit Maiduguri, capital of Borno
State on Sunday to mobilize defectors that would
accompany Sheriff. The source said, the PDP’s
rating of Sheriff fell after he was only able to bring
in three out of eight APC members of House of
Representatives to the PDP and one out of 28
members of the Borno State House of Assembly
despite his initial promise to the Presidency that he
was crossing over to the PDP with the soul of the
APC in Borno State that included defecting with the
current deputy Governor, Zannah Umar Mustapha,
all National Assembly members except for Senator
Mohammed Ali Ndume who has been at
loggerheads with him, all State Assembly
members, all serving and past chairmen of the 27
local government areas of Borno State, all
executives of the APC at the State, 27 local
government areas and 312 ward levels. However,
majority remained in APC with loyalty, including
Senators, five out eight Representatives under the
APC in Borno, 27 out 28 State Assembly members,
most of past and serving council chairmen, party
executives at all levels remained loyal to Governor
Kashim Shettima.

A source said Governor Shettima went to Ilorin for
the APC Governors meeting on Wednesday, ?in
company of Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume and
five members of the House of Representatives
among others who turned down Sheriff’s appeal to
join him in PDP.
